OK,

I want to have it out here once and for all. No more discussions about ****** fluid and acetone.....

If these were your only two choices in the world, which would you select?

I bet the ones that vote for PB have never used Kroil, PB is better than nothing and way better than WD40 but its no where close to Kroil.

I voted for Kroil... if you have never used it then your missing out.

.... the only thing that PB Blaster has going for it is that you can buy 10 cans of PB for the same amount as 1 can of Kroil!

I haven't used Kroil, so I can't comment on it. I've used PB Blaster and it seemed to be pretty useless. It was about as effective as WD40 which is also mostly useless. I have also used Liquid Wrench. It is much better than PB Blaster.
I'm switching to that "one" you don't want to discuss.:)

I have Liquid Wrench, never used Kroil, limited experience with PB. I guess I don't know what I'm missing!

(Off-topic, is diesel any good for this kind of thing?)

It would probably work somewhat, but I wouldn't want to test it out...

For in a can, PB is great, and cheap... Kroil seems to do a better job at quikcly penetrating...

For my non-formal formula, I use brake fluid, it seems to do the best job, but I haven't tried ATF and acetone yet.

Why didn't you do Kroil vs. Liquid Wrench??

Liquid wrench performed better than PB Blaster in that very scientific study.

I known that Koil is excellant,I have used it myself for years.
But you guys should start looking at TC-11.
It is also an outstanding product

www.nstcenter.com/docs/PDFs/MR2006

I've been using TC-11 for about 10 years .. lately when I went to reorder (manufacturing is in Hawaii) I found out that it is no longer available .. stuff is alot better than WD-40 but not as good as Kroil for a penetrant ..

Kroil hands down.

bchee (or anyone else): The study your referring to , was that the HSM one that picked ATF/Acetone? Or was it a different one? Ive been trying to find a truly scientific study comparing all the leading Penetrating oils. I cant believe that there hasnt been one done (maybe by the military or something). If there is one out there its some hard to find. Any links would be appreciated.

Hard to say. The fellow who restored the 100lb lump of rust to a working vice soaked it in diesel for a year and it made no useful penetration in that time.

I've freed up stuff with PB... but I've also freed up stuff with WD40. Never used Kroil.

The "solvent which must not be named" worked for me to free up some stuck universal sockets so I'm going with that one (sans acetone, which I did not have).

I have PB & Kroil. Kroil definitely works better. The mix that shall remain nameless has worked about as good as kroil in my estimation.

I keep Marvel Mystery Oil in a pump sprayer, anything serious gets the Kroil, but I also buy and try just about anything I find. WD40 has been demoted to label removal duty and little else.

2 king sized cans of Kroil incl shipping $12.

I have never had Kroil to try. But from what I've read it must work pretty good. Never had a problem with PB though, better than Liquid Wrench imho.

We use Kroil at most commercial power plants. Price is not an issue. I seen 2 1/2" studs that wouldn't move until injecting kroil. They can turned out by hand sometimes. They old timers that work at coal fired plants say "if it don't come out with kroil, get the torch.

Dad had something similar. The pump in his grain vacuum was frozen, he filled it with a gallon of wd-40 for several weeks, couldn't break it loose with a pipe wrench on the shaft.

He dumped that, sprayed 3 cans of pb blaster in it, and let that sit for a week, couldn't budge it.

I gave him a half-full small can of Kroil, he sprayed it down (didn't even use all of it). The next day I asked if it came loose, he just laughed. He went to put the pipe wrench on it out of curiosity, and the weight of the pipe wrench spun the pump loose.

He promptly ordered 4 cans for the farm. "Where in the hell was this the last 40 years?":lol_hitti

I read somewhere that PB messes up engine seals and gaskets. Sorry, I do not know the details of what type of seals or gasket. It was an engine in marine environment.

If they are corrosive to seals and such, then they are definitely not going to be in a motorcycle tool kit.

I'm in the same boat now.. I've tried 2 cans of PB it works OK but sometimes it still wont get what I need off and I have to bring out the torch..

I think for the people who haven't tried kroil is only because they have to order it online and pay for shipping..

I'm thinking about buying online this weekend to try it and give it a go.. if it's good I'd buy a larger can.. I mean we can all take your word for it but we just have to try it for our self's to be impressed.

I use PB blaster
I'd like to try kroil, but I've never once seen it for sale.

I can get a gallon of pb blaster at tractor supply for about $20, so I've been perfectly happy using it.

I'd never heard of Kroil until last year. Saw it on a shelf at my buddy's house, tried it, and ordered 2 cans. Having worked in hardware stores and doing the styrofoam cup trick many times, I thought PB was the best stuff since sliced bread. I will admit that I have both on top of my tool box!
Not many stores have it but you can easily order from their website:

It eats all manner of rubber type stuff. I put some in a syringe and by the time I was done using it (5-10 minutes) the rubber seal on the plunger had swollen and wouldn't move.

I don't like PB as it seems everytime I grab a can, the propellant is gone and there's half a can left.

I tell folks that if I will pay what Kano gets for a case, it has to be good! Been using it since I was an A/P apprentice, then ran into it again working at power plants and again at the wire mill where I worked.

It's flat out worth the price of admission!

Over the past 50 years I've tried/used everything - Nothing matches KROIL.

I order it by the case to save on shipping - then give a few can's away as "Christmas Presents" to fellow car nuts that haven't tried it before. What do you give the guys that have everything else already?

I order the regular size spray cans - as the larger one's are too bulky in tight places. I also order a gallon of the liquid - and use it in pump can's.

FWIW,
Carl B.

well, i give in. its been raved about so much, i've got to give it a try. i prefer the non-aerosol cans, so ordered a couple of those 8oz (and the 'google deal' spray cans). i've been a happy pb blaster user, but its never good news when you have to start hoping some 'magic in a can' will make the job easier..so if kroil actually DOES make it easier, i'll be a happy camper.
