I hope you post up a video of it working. Im genuinely curious if these chinese machines can actually work as advertised.

I THINK I read recently somewhere that the cheaper machines (<$50K) don't really perform well, and that the videos out of China that show how great they work are actually much more expensive machines. The action of the cheaper machines are MUCH slower than shown in the vid (sped up?) or it's actually a bigger machine (which is why they only show the laser head piece in the vids).

I'm HOPING for the tech to come down in price fast - I have a Toyota Tacoma (nuff said).

The laser tech side is well developed at this point, the problem is the tech in the main control/cooling unit as far as getting it to be "portable."

I can't wait for these to become more affordable! Well, I can since I can't afford one, but I don't want to.

If it has to be small and slow to be reasonably-priced, I still want it.

Git me one of those $100,000 laser doohickeys to restore my mid 90s entry level econo wagon.

Seems like a legit investment.

I think the machine in 34 was fine. It ate though the power coated red angle. My bead blaster will not remove powder coat. The blue sheet metal was painted and it removed the paint well. My machine is 1500watts.

I am a tota; bonehead though. When I ordered it I messed up big time. They asked about he frequency. I thought she meant 220 volts and 50amps not 50 hertz! So I got a 50Hertz machine. I am going to use my generator to power it. I ordered a volt and hertz panel meter that I will add to the generator. I will try to run the engine a little slower to change the hertz. I can then use the machine. In doing so I have made it portable. I reviewed the requirements I am hoping that my 5000Watt generator with 8500watt peak will be sufficient

trying to get a video here.
NG: going back to your original post: ALL welds have a HAZ. But, no question these laser welds concentrate heat so well that the weld itself and thus HAZ can be quite small and localized - minimizing distortion. You will note they tacked before running bead - tells you there is still significant distortion that needs to be held in check. Would no doubt be the best thing possible for bodywork!!

Thanks for putting yourself in the line of fire to assess these things. My experience with Chinese stuff is that when it breaks (inevitably will happen) support is a LONG way away and the language barrier can make it difficult.

Anxious to see your rust and paint removal results in real world situation, and again, thanks for sharing.

Damn! That's so cool.

What are you initial impressions?

Was the speed of rust removal acceptable? Did you find it easy to control? E.g. could you use it on vehicles without major disassembly? Were the fumes bad? How does the part look closeup? Can you adjust the beam size? Can you shoot it at a hotdog to satisfy my curiosity?

Can't wait for your video! 👍

It is very fast. Today i stripped a toploader 4 speed that i had previously rebuilt. The guy had painted it with a eattle can. He obviously ckeaned it before painting ut the was surface rust underneath. The laser stripped the ****** and removed the rust and paint to a fresh cast base. I epoxy primed it and used eastswoods paint zinc oxide to paint it. It looks great. I fid the ****** to paint ready in less than 40 minutes. It was so clean when i used the wax and grease remover there was nothing there!
I did a video the other day but i can load it
I’ll try to get one this weekend

You can strip complete engines and transmissions together with the laser. You have to be careful on sheet metal. Because we can warp it gets pretty hot.

Control get some getting used to also the protective lenses can get spatter while cleaning. They are expensive at three for $60.. I used three while doing this part. But if you buy them from China in bulk, I bought 100 you can get them for like $1.70 each and then it becomes a little bit more economical.. this is a very difficult part to do because it is so heavy. It is difficult even with my large zero blast bead bladt csbinet
Also, once you get the hang of it, you can kind of angle the gun, so the sparks font go up the lens

The ****** is for a 92 Stang. I will post a few pics. Here is a link to the video. The jack was heavily rusted. It sat outside for years and after the laser it is paint ready
Ah man! That is just as cool as I imagined. I am very jealous.

Edit: Now, what happens when you shoot a hot dog?

I am thinking of buying a Laser rust removal machine. Yes they are expensive but they remove rust and pant and debri and make the surface ready for paint. I was looking on the Alibaba website and they run 6-9K for a 1000Watt unit. I found one on Amazon that also does welding. I currently have two mig welders and a tig as well as an old buzz box. This laser welding sems cool but if you look at the welds there is no HAZ. Here is a linkl

I just saw the question on glasses. They give you a pair of yellow glasses. They seem to work fine and allow you to see wwhat you are doing. It does heat up sheet metal a little too much. I need to figure how to deal with that. My laser goes up to 1500 watts. I have been using 1200watts with 100% duty cycle. I am not sure how do dial it in. I think it will take some tinkering and pracitice on old ssheet metal. It's really too cold to mess with it outside now. I am going to use it on the floor of mu 65. It can remove all the old paint and crappy chinese primer on the patch panels. I am hesitant to use it on top

Wow. Glad I found this place. A question for you. What are the power requirements for it? Was it single phase? amps?

Pretty cool. Do you need special safety glasses?
Yes. And get quality, certified laser safety glasses. Do not trust your eyesight to the lowest Chinese bidder.

Any more updates? I'm very jealous. I realize it wouldn't make financial sense for me - but I want it.

What was the brand/model you bought? The Amazon link doesn't work anymore.

Ya what he jrad said. I brought this magical device in conversation today and am wondering whatever became of it.

Thanks, Cam
