Fat Fender- looks good, what kind of heater are you using with the Pex install? I have a 24X40 shop and hopefully next week will be getting a friend to help me hook up the heater. I found a Hydro Shark 3 boiler ( 9.6 kw) that should do my space. As I am just east of Brandon ,Man. looked out and 4 inches of snow fell overnight. Hope you avoided it!!!!

Just a little snow here...truck made it through the back with no snow clearing, had to clean off the pad for the builders, so not too bad so far.

The heater I am using in my house is by a company called Concept;

I believe it was purchased through BA Robinson...made in Winnipeg and is a 9 kw. It is running my main floor in floor heat, whole house forced air as well as hot water.

I have been watching prices in the states as Menards puts them on sale fairly cheap, but as I don't know anyone using one, and I know this one has been trouble free for almost 6 years, I may stick with the same brand.

It does look a little light doesn't it?

Only nine trusses for a 45' length?

As the engineer stamped drawing shows they are spaced every 6' on center for the middle, and 4' 6 3/4" in from the ends;

ShopDrawing1.jpg

the 2 quotes I got from American companies only used 6, 9' on center for the middle, and 8' 10 1/2" in from the ends.

Also the insulation, vapor barrier, overhead door and tracking was not on this shipment.

Fatfender- Yeh I priced the boiler out at BA and for the 9-10kw one it was about $1200.00. I got the 9.6kw Hydro Shark for about $420.00. Like to shop at home but too much of a cost difference.

oh yes a Bennett 766 pump. I have the same pump outside my garage. I am thinking about changing brands. You interested in red crown signs and globe? By the way... my barn is same size! 30x45.

Fatfender- I purchased the Hydro Shark 3 at Menards in Minot, North Dakota for about $420.00 on sale. I think they are now about $449.00. I purchased my circulating pumps on line as well as all the valves, pressure tank, y strainer, etc. I priced out the Menards "board" that they sell with all the parts put together as well. I can't remember for sure but i think it was priced at about 1350.00 without the boiler. I think with the boiler and everything else to get it going I'm in to it for about 850.00-900. A buddy of mine is going to do the joining of the pex/copper fittings for me, so I will have to compensate him. Still a lot cheaper though.

Nice set up there...I am not too brand specific, and the shipping on your stuff would probably be huge $$$$. I am thinking Gulf for a globe as I have the sign, but I am kinda partial to Shell as my grandparents both worked for the company.

Mufrat62 - I am going to have to look more into those systems when the time comes. We are thinking of a trip down to Minneapolis between Christmas and New Years, probably check it out then. Have lots of time to plan it as electrical won't be run until spring...thanks for the information!

Great build! You have great determination to be out in all that white stuff. It's 59* here and the sun is out and I am stalling going out side to work in my garage. Sitting here drinking coffee and waiting for it to warm up.

Are those 6x6 post? and are you using some type of ties to attach the purlins to them? I am about to start a 24x30 horse barn and want to go in between the post like you did and not just flat on the outside with the purlins.

Keep the pics coming.

I have to confess, I did help with some of the foundation work, but the building was contracted out. I did go out and do some measuring and found the window framing was installed incorrectly. Glad I caught it when I did, it has been corrected now!

As for the purlins, there is a hanger system used between the 6 X 6 posts. They are engineered posts (4 - 2X6 laminated together).

Thanks guys...Ya Al, the anticipation for getting in there is killing me!

sippirat, we tried to come up with color ideas for a while, was thinking of matching the house, then we decided to go completely opposite!

It's a shame you have to wait til spring to get electric out there. The wait for that would be torture for me...

Those guys are WAY braver than I am! I would have enough trouble being up on that roof on a warm sunny day, let alone a nasty winter one!

As for power...run the extension cords! I did that in mine until I had the power hooked up. :)

Okay, just finished drooling over this build. I honestly didn't read much as I was too excited blasting through to see the great picture updates along the way!

Can I jump right out there and ask the ballpark total (if not a set amount from day 1) for all of this? You can exclude the electrical hookup if that is separate.

I have a couple real long extension cords....and my garage is only ~ 50' away....hmmmm

lol! thats funny, i suffered in my single car uninsulated, leaning badly, piece of **** garage for 6 years and i ran everything off of a heavy extension cord off the house! and i split it several times to outlets and lights.it was an electricians nightmare! i even dug a shallow trench and buried it so i wouldn't catch it in my blower.i hated pluggin that thing in but it got me by. i can't wait to knock it down! and when my new 30x40 was at that stage with no wiring my wife and i joked about having two garages to plug in. its amazing what one will do just to be close to his tools.

will you be tinning the inside as well?

IONH - I am not sure what it would be in the U.S., but for everything done minus electrical I am figuring $50,000, but 90% was contracted out, and there was some landscaping done as well on the pad fees..(had my driveway widened around my existing garage to make access to the back easier.

Nealcrenshaw - the reason for the offset door is I am installing a hoist offset on the right side of the garage, and if the door was centered it made access to the hoist difficult. We staked out the whole shop prior to the pad being installed, and this option worked best....at least I found.

Looks great so far and man it looks cold for a guy from Mississippi on the gulf coast.

Could you tell us how the 6x6 posts are tied to the slab or maybe post some pics of it if possible. I haven't read ever post so I may have missed it and will go back to reading. With the snow on the ground and covering the slab I'm not clear how they attached them and they stood on their own until tied together with the pearlings.

Best of luck with the rest of it and please keep posting.
