Well it finally happened...on Thursday I got home and they had just showed up to install my door.

In those sort of situations I would have sicked my wife on them. Hell has no fury like a pissed off Jersey girl !

Was getting excited with spring here...got some quotes to bring in gravel to finish my driveway to the shop (last year was left as fill to allow settling over the winter), also got some info in trenching for power too.

Two days ago we were 20°C or 68°F...today I get up to this...

Last night was ~ -7°C or 19.4°F...northern Manitoba got it much worse than here, but still not a nice thing to wake up to May 1st!

Work will be delayed a little longer while things dry out again...!

A bunch of Manitowoc lifts popped up in our area all at once...don't know the reason why...I was looking at 3 that were in a dealership that were for sale when my brother in law said he had one he wasn't going to use....he bought 2, ended up only wanting one...price was right so I couldn't say no.

Came with a spare set of rollers, pump was recently serviced and inspection tag was only a year old.

Installer is coming this morning to put it in! Will post pictures of the progress later.

Did all the measuring last night to help speed up the installation process today...installer arrived just before 10am...within 45 minutes had everything lined up...

15 minutes later everything was attached and the hoist was lifting under its own power...

Then arms installed...

Finally drilling for the anchor bolts to secure everything in place...

Now time to test it out!

oh, did you drill holes in the concrete when you have PEX in it??

Yes...if you look back to post #19, you can see an area was left open in the pex layout for the hoist to be installed. Pressure was left in the lines to make sure nothing was affected while drilling.

That was exactly my thought....Have them bring you out a correct door and let the next victim deal with waiting. I think you have been more than accommodating. I'd be taking that door and putting it through their front door!

Gotta ask. How do you get away with such shallow excavation for the foundation?

The Cold Climate Housing Research Center in Fairbanks recommends excavating out 4', filling / compacting the hole with non frost susceptible fill for a frost protected shallow foundation.

Just got the estimate from our local Hydro to install my 200A service to the shop...I dig the trench, supply the meter socket, they run the 265' of wire from the pole and hook it to the meter, total cost $3052.72 plus applicable taxes....YIKES!

Guess I will be looking for a part time job to pay this off!

Man, that's a deal, IMHO. When our shop was powered-up two years ago, the copper alone to go about 300' was over $4k!

WOW, glad I'm not in Texas...LOL!

So this week, paid the $3,205.36 for the install permit, wire and hookup, and another $168.00 for the building wiring permit....now I get to wait for the call as to when they will install so I can dig the trench. In the mean time, got my meter socket, panel, grounding probes, and enough wire to get all tmy part ready so when they do come, it will all be inspected so I can get the service hooked up!

Pole and transformer were installed Monday Aug 22, I installed the panel and meter socket on Friday Aug 26, now just to wait for the notice for when Hydro will come to install the cable so I can dig the trench!

Code here states the required height of the meter socket on the outside of the building according to grade, then they specify the maximum allowed height of the main service breaker inside the shop. I could have hung it the other way but the panel would have almost touched the floor to keep the main breaker within code, could have gone sideways but used a lot of wall space, so went this way.

Could have also played with offset conduit, but decided to go straight through the wall for ease of install.

Got it fired up Sunday evening, shop was 52 (11) when we started it up, by the next morning it was 60 (15.5). Now just came into the shop and it is 62 (16.5) with the thermostat set to 60 (15.5).

So the saga continues....

Noticed one evening walking to my shop that I could see light coming from the top of my overhead door...went up a ladder to find a 1/2 - 3/4" gap between my door and the weatherstripping.

Called the builder company and they passed me off to the overhead door supplier/installer. A few days later the "repair" guy comes out and does a couple quick adjustments to the door, then goes outside and adjusts the weather stripping...when done this is what he leaves behind;

He says as he gets into his truck "you will have to get some paint and touch that up"

Now a call back to the builder company to see what they are going to do, which so far seems as nothing. Talked to them Monday around 2, and waiting to hear what they come up with.
