For those that were wondering what happened to me its a complicated thing ,but I will try to make it as simple as possible.I got into a ******* match with someone on here and called them a "*****".Apparently that is not an acceptable term and I got a vacation. This REALLY irritated me and I decided to just be done with the forum and walk away. Fast forward 6 mo and I was the ungrateful recipient of a mild heart attack that required 3 stents and some time off to fix.Shortly later, my back/neck that I had been liveing with for 20 yrs just got to be too much and I elected to have done whatever could be done to help. This resulted in an 11 hour surgery to put 6 cages and rods in my neck and 3 in my lower back.I was doing pretty good until the wife took a 3 day trip south to do something for one of the kids.I was left with the care of the livestock which I was not cleared by the docs to do.About half way from the tack/feed room the mini donkey got impatient and head butted me square in the ***,dumping 2 grain buckets and me on the dirt floor.I couldn't get up for about 15 min and as soon as I did I knew I was really messed up.Without going into all the details , it was determined that the cages in my back had been pused into a "S" shape and narrowed the spinal canal significantly worse than it was before the surgery. My head was snapped forward and the rods dislodged on my left side (of my neck) resulting in a pinch of the spinal cord .None of this was surgically reparable,so I still have the back pain I had previously plus i had screaming headaches that I never had before,24/7.I put up with that for a few months but was unable to concitrate on anything, untill I was introduced to Oxycodone. After much experimenting, the headaches went away! But I was hooked on a 12 pill a day habit that included the addition of fentinal when I couldn't get enough oxycodone.I picked up a blood bourne infection in my right arm that also went down my rt leg.The sepsis was bad enough (by the time I got to the er) that emergency surgery was done on my arm and hand to remove 1 artery that had rotted thru and killed quite a bit of the surrounding flesh. My hand had turned black and the docs told everybody that they would give it 2 days to color up or it would be taken off.I had a 1/2" wide trench from the top of by thumb to my elbow where the dead meat was removed. The plastic surgery guy did a great job and now you can only see about 2" of where it was.The real problem though was that from the time I got to the er,I was not concious for 8 days, and they did not know about my opiate addiction until I had another heart attack, brought on by the cold turkey withdrawal. That got me open heart surgery where a bypass was installed to repair some of the rotting that they did not know about from the sepsis.I also had a tumor in my left ventricle which was removed and 3 more stents!I was still getting oxycodone for pain, but in controlled doses. They later told me that when they removed my heart to work on the tumor, it wouldn't restart w/o a lot of help, mostly because it was damaged by the fentanol abuse. From the hospital I was put in rehab. At this point I couldn't get in or out of bed myself and they used a forklift device to move me. I did not have normal control of my legs so all last summer I spent in rehab getting clean and learning how to (sort of )walk. They released me sept 10 and sent me home with a walker.I will stop here because dinner is ready.I will be back with"the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey said!

I say "sent me home"In loose terms because "home" was now in Delta Ohio,a small 3000 person town west of Toledo. My family had decided that liveing on the "ranch" was no longer a plausible option and that I would be better off "close to family". I was really in no condition to change what they had set down so here I am in a 1300sq ft house with a 24 x 24 detached garage that is full of moved stuff that didnt have a spot to go.No heat, no insulation,5 light bulbs hanging from the trusses and a flat floor with no drain. We were here about 6 weeks when one morning I wake up and my rt leg is waving uncontrollably in circles.Off to the host in Toledo where it was determined that I had experienced a mini stroke.By then the leg was no longer waving about but I had no control of it.So now we are going to clean out the cartoroid arteries on the rt side of my neck that are 80% blocked. In the process the cages that the donkey displaced are in the ways new incisions must be made to access the arteries and in the process some of the nerve bundles were cut that go to the left side of my face. So I have extra incisions, half of my beard butchered off, and a droopy lip on the left side.My left eye wont focus correctly so a few weeks later I have lense replacement surgery which really isn't too bad because now I dont need glasses to drive or shoot, just to read.Today I still have the back pain, can manage the headaches with Tylenol (but not eliminate them)am clean of opiates and can sort of walk with a cane, but the walker is much better.I can drive but my hands dont really work well,I have no feeling and limited control of thre fingers on my hand so assembling small parts is a futile task most times. I'm stuck in Delta with no foreseeable chance of returning north and being unable to build this little 2 car garage into a place to do anything.I did not finish the deruster and as of now probably wont finish anything that is left up there. The sleds and quads are still there but my mule was given away. All this was done because everyone thought I was going to die anyway.I still have all my guns and the tools to work on them,.I joined a shooting club and I guess this will be my focus for a while at least.Fortuneatly I can shoot hand guns either right or left handed. I will urge anyone that ends up reading this to avoid taking ANYTHING opiate related because it IS very addictive and you will be hooked and not even know it until its too late. You CANNOT get off it by yourself.I really dont know how much of my issues were the result of my addiction but I am convinced I did a lot of the above to myself.

Thanks! My son was up there snowmobiling last w/e and says there is almost 4' of snow around the shops i guess its snowed in until spring! Depending on how my rehab goes my plan is to spend most of next summer up there.Maybe the loose ends and unfinished projects can be addressed then.

Wow. I was a narcotics detective for 6 years when Oxycontin was the most abused prescription. I saw plenty of people who were not your typical "druggies" become addicted and it destroyed their lives, if they managed to live through it. Many did not.

One case that stands out was a lady who set up a phony prescription printing business in her home and sent "mules" out to collect the Oxy and Percocet. She got busted, her house searched and all of her computers and printers seized. She was back in business a few months later, same thing. What started this mess was an accident when she broke both legs. She was prescribed opiate painkillers and the switch got flipped on. She had a promising cosmetology career prior to all that. I hope she stayed clean after her prison term, but I don't know what became of her.

Best of luck in your recovery. You certainly provided some great inspiration to many of us with you build notes and guidance. I hope you get back in your shop soon, I know mine in therapeutic and I’m all around happier when I’m working on projects. We look forward to your future posts about your projects.

Man you are one tough son of a gun. Good luck in your recovery. Opiates can be a terrible thing. I have seen many people get hooked and their lives ruined.

Thanks. I got "caught" by accident before it completely ruined everything, but it still set me back a couple years. It will probably take most of next summer just to get everything in order up there after being gone for almost a year.

Welcome back - glad to hear you are on the mend! I still have the magic formula you posted for the industrial grade deruster but have not built it yet. Maybe by the time I do get to it, you'll have yours completed and be back in action again.
