I found this 71-10 at the flea market this morning. Plucked it out of one of those lightweight 50's era rule-on-the-lid type dual tackle/tool boxes along with an HKP angle cutter and Channellock needle nose pliers. A fairly common ho-hum rat, but this one is cad-plated with a "G" (1945) code, and for $10 for all three tools, a no brainer. It was a little glitchy until I disassembled, cleaned, and re-lubed it. Missing a screw, which I may have in a misc ratchet parts drawer, if not, probably salvage from one in worse condition eventually.

Yes, the G tools are usually black oxide. I usually do not buy tools from the 70s + but heck, I am a speeder nut.

My father's 71-10 is my go to 1/2" regular length ratchet.

Not a Snap-on patent. Granted July 1953 to Otto Schwenzfeier. It was assigned to James T. Clark, of Fort Morgan, Colorado, the home of Clark-Feather, which is where the "CF" part number comes from. They manufactured and private labeled them for everyone.
Thanks for the information. So then Snap On had Clark-Feather manufacture the CF70A & CF71 Spark Plug gappers. Is that correct?

1972 Snap on railway cat. shows lots of Nxxxx tools we have seen, and not seen
That's interesting. Does it have the N 8080 ratchet and N - 4199 extension/socket in there? The 4199 I thought might be a one-off but I have a couple different versions of it.

A couple of sockets and an extension. The extension definitely says Snap on. The sockets have a S with the O on top of it. I’m wondering if these are Snap on as well…

They are. Very early. First gen. It's a monograph. If you search the thread on "overstrike" you will find other examples.
There were also these two sockets with them but I don’t recognize the logo

Blackhawk. Also very early. Same timeframe. First gen, 1919/1920.
Thanks for the prompt response. Lastly I have these with knurling in the middle. The size is stamped but I can’t find any other markings.

^ Yes. Explained by @Private Lugnutz - both units were manufactured by Clark-Feather.

Correct. In addition to the two @Private Lugnutz mentioned, they also made them for Indestro, Blue Point, and a number of others.
Snap-on outsources/outsourced all kinds of items. They do not make all of their products.

Any suggestions for me to attempt a DIY repair to this NS-18-A Power Bar?

What drill size to attack the swivel pin?

TIA

Here is another DE-1 1/2” drive offset handle. I’m very happy to have gotten one of these.

Snapmom has posted them, and also spotted one in Steven’s collection recently posted.

The only catalog I see this in is the 1931. I don’t see that particular date stamp on this tool. There are some larger random owner looking stamps and a clear 1, and a smaller faint stamp that looks more like a factory 9 or possible an 8 down and the the right of the 1. Tough to say.

Anyway, here it be. Not the prettiest example, but a fun early piece. That works! Feels like it was made to a good length for use too.

The Snap-On logo is a bit faint. Feels like maybe the die left an imprint around it.DCA70179-65B4-4D6F-B2F3-FAC970B142FE.jpeg
The “1” stamp. Other markings. If you look closely, can see number down below the 1.

On another forum site I came across mention of Snap-On auger bits, used for boring holes in wood. Does anyone have information or catalog listings of them? My interest is primarily drilling tools, not Snap-On, but I haven't found anything about them anywhere, except listings on eBay. Apparently they are SBW 2217A 11/16” auger bits.

Dang, that will come in really handy next time you need to adjust your main bearings and rods!

They show up in the industrial cats, 60s 70s

I found a few Snap-on tools at this morning’s moving sale. The undated metric shorty combos were ones I was missing in my user box. IMG_5113.jpeg

I found a 1956 3/8” drive ratchet and cleaned it up.IMG_5115.jpegIMG_5116.jpeg
The 7/16” deep socket has some pitting, unfortunately.

I don't have many, but here's my vintage Snap-on gunk scraper:

Backside says:
PAT NO 201171

It lives on my desk and sees use abuse most days.

I just saw this the other day on facebook marketplace. It's in Springfield, IL. He was asking $3000, but now asking for a trade.

Those showed up in the Vintage Tool Boxes thread on November third. That's a pleasant shade of grun.

I think he was just testing the waters here and trying to figure out what he has.
I asked him for more pictures after he posted it - never got them
In my opinion $3000 is a bit too much for a set in this state (especially the bottom box)

I have to agree with you. It's about 130 miles from me. I would buy it if the price was right. I have cash for something like that, but not $3K. I don't think I have anything that he would accept in trade. Just a couple of K61/KR300 stacks and a Remline stack.

Yep only shows up in the 31 cat. One of the few limited run tools in my experience that seems to be very consistent with the date code that corresponds to the only year it's meant to be made. Usually even the one year run tools. You'll find some variants in the date codes. It looks like yours has the alternate 31 code which is just a 1 instead of the asterisks thing. Sorry if that's confusing. I accidentally pressed post before I was ready. Now I'm trying to hurry up and make it make sense ha

Has there anyone ever seen a 1920s knurled style 3/8 six point socket 1/2 in drive? Kind of curious if they ever made one
