Ok let me give some color about this nos Blockhead - the when, where, who and how much--
Like a lot of other GJ members, I have been looking for a nice Blockhead. This came up on Craig's list not to long ago, I was on vacation in Lake Tahoe with my family, just got home after a full day out and about, it was late in the afternoon and went on Craig's List in the San Diego area to see if anything new was listed for the day - that's when I came across the ad for this Blockhead. I couldn't believe my good fortune, but being that it was late in the day - I thought calling would be a waste of time. After calling I came to find out he had just posted the ad 10 mins earlier. I bought it right their on the phone, I told him I would not be able to pick it up for another two weeks and he promised not to sell it out from under me.
It turns out, the person I bought it from sells used machinery. When I went to his shop to pick it up, he told me the story of how he came across it. He was contacted about a storage unit that had tools and machinery stored in it from an estate sale. He went out and bought the lot. It had two of these nos grinders, this one being the last one. It also had two new in the box Craftsman tool chests from the early 70's (the grey and red style) top and bottom's, a drill press (used) and a host of other new and used Craftsman tools. I asked if he still had the tool chests, but he explained that those were sold along with everything else over a year ago, it just so happened he had forgot about this Blockhead and only recently came across this box in the corner of his shop.
I paid $200.00, that was the asking price - I never considered bargaining - I was just happy to have the opportunity to get one of these Blockheads new in the box. Compared to what is available today, $200.00 is a good deal - and yes it still has that new tool smell
Sorry for all the separate picture posts, I couldn't post more than one pic at a time because of size.
