You may want to replace it, for all the time it will take to repair and clean it.

Bench Grinder Lamp Shade 534497198
$6.25 + shipping

https://www.searspartsdirect.com/product/1c81334m3m-0071-358/id-534497198

I just ordered 2, to have on hand. They were discontinued from another site that carries Block parts.
https://www.ereplacementparts.com/black-cover-p-973653.html?osCsid=28fu83dlsa2d5hfacm7sdc6ri0
I received a notice that SearsPartsDirect is out of stock and they do not know when they will have more.

"The part from order Wxxxxx you placed on 4/3/2020 has been refunded. "

I've brought back to life a few of these bench grinders and decided this time to have some fun and make it match my grey and red Craftsman boxes! I may order one of the replacement tags over on the other thread, but happy with this for now. Thanks to tips I found here and on the other block thread, I found a nice replacement switch at Grainger which I like much better than the toggle that a PO had used before. This one would just hum on start up, so I also had to get into the starter relay and clean up the points. I then also referenced a wiring schematic also found on this forum to get everything buttoned up. BTW, date on this one is Apr 1975. Thanks to everyone who posted various tips here for reference!

Very nice, indeed!

What brand and model number of paint did you use?

Oh, my vote is for a new label from Mattblast!

Thank you. You have been a major source of information for me on these. I use Rustoleum rattle cans. Hammered gray and Sunrise Red. Yes, I have bought them from him in the past and they are awesome. Most likely will do the same again. Thanks again.

You are welcome, just helping out like those who helped me during my early Blockhead days. :)

Matt is doing an awesome job on the labels/stickers for the Baldor 7312B restore.

Here is a nice pedestal with an interesting version of the 1/3 hp.
Looks like a hybrid between a regular block and the really cheap 5 inch models.

Huh, now I also see a 1/2 hp version. Never noticed these as I just figured they were the typical 5 inch junk. They do not seem to have much value regardless.

$45 in Dallas

That is a deal on the stand.

The CM grinder looks like a Block, but inside it has none of the robust features of a Block.

I have that 1/3-HP model, with variable speed. Here's a link to a comparison (sorry, pictures were nuked by PhotoBucket debacle) I did many moons ago.

I know this was mentioned before (and I'm too tired to scan and search) but where do we get replacement rubber feet? I think there was a generic place to get them other than Sears.
Lowes sells a grommet that is a good substitute for the original rubber feet, but I forget the part number (it should be in the thread somewhere).

I made feet for mine, I used rubber corks from ace hardware look at post #11949 here.

Hello everyone, I'm still looking for another build project but this virus has me shut in for now.

I haven't been looking at CL for some time, for obvious reasons. I don't know why I did today, but look what I found.

Try not to laugh.

"I have a nice older craftsman bench grinder it works great it has a broken shroud on the one side but it still functions as it should asking $50. "

How about using a tool rest for a spark arrester?!?

Let us know how the buffing wheel works. I've always been curious and have an extra 1/2 hp block waiting.
This is probably not the combination of wheels I'll eventually use on this one. They were spares and I just put them on for the picture. I'm more likely going to have fine and coarse wheels on this one. However I do have another 1/3 HP block that has a buffer wheel and wire wheel on it that I use frequently. Maybe it spins at too high an RPM or maybe I need to upgrade buffer wheels, but it sure seems like it throws off a lot of the buffer material when I use it. I prefer to use my lower RPM arbor set up for buffing.
