Let's try that again. Please be careful with that kind of "stringy" chew toys. Dogs can ingest the threads which may cause stomach - bowel obstructions, bloat, or torsion. Need to start to trimming nails. Just a heads up. Beagle = energy bomb. Cute Pup.
Thanks for the tips!

Yeah he isn’t left alone with “any” chew toy.

My sister in law trims his nails. I just have not been over there in a few weeks. His nails grow that long damn near over night!

His energy level should be harnessed to power the international space station. It would operate for eternity!

QUESTION FOR THE DOG OWNERS:

Anyone bought paw "shoes" for their dog? How'd they do with them?

I'm asking because we're headed to Lake Mohave next week and it'll be well over 100*. Several years ago I had my avatar lifetime best friend, "Sooner" in Laughlin with us and the aluminum dock was too hot for his paws. I feel bad even thinking of it. I'm guessing Max & Fifi will HATE them but better than them being in pain or burnt. Wondering if they'll just refuse to walk in them or try to chew them off?
apparently "crocs" for dogs is a thing

Ha ha, really?

My bigger dog, Fifi wore booties that are basically a sock with the anti-slip pads and a velcro band on each "ankle". She didn't fight them at all and on the floating dock (2ft x 2ft concrete pavers) and metal ramps the heat didn't bother her at all. She was happy as could be. Wish I'd gotten video. Max the mini terrorist HATED having them on. The hard dog "shoes" were a complete no go. I then used the same socks on him and he tolerated them long enough to get to the first tree because he really had to pee. After that he wanted to pull them off....except it was too hot on the pavement to sit on!

What a great thread. I've got a couple neighborhood strays who came to live in my garage last year. We brought them in to heal up after being TNR'd (with the intention to turn them loose again) but they decided to turn around and come right back inside. Think they preferred the cushy indoor cat life, haha.

Here's a picture of them I took last night, laying on top of one of my projects. Their expression says "Ace & Sidney are tired of your sh**". 😹

And a bonus picture of Ace helping to plug a nail hole in a tire. He's always ready to lend a hand - er, paw - whenever there's work to do!

Thanks! (This was originally my thread years ago.)

This thread has a life of its own and I'm truly happy so many of us love our pups. I love cats too but haven't had any in over 25 years now because my girlfriend is allergic to them. I always had great cats but that was because I got them as kittens and manhandled them a LOT so they were used to my touch and smell. I even bathed them from little. Some would tolerate it, others SEEMED to like it.

I even bathed them from little.
My ex used bath the cat. She would fill the sink with warm water. Call him and he would get into the sink and sit. She would soap him up, rinse and dry him. Then wrap him in a towel and put him on a heating pad.
I tried once. Wouldn’t come when I called him.
But if I sat on my chair and opened a beer, he’d be in my lap.

One of his favorite pastimes, ripping up the Coles bag...................

He's slowly getting better, today he was out in the garden barking at leaves, which is a good sign actually. Having said that, his age and the operation have made him slower and unsteady on his feet. But he's happy, and that makes me happy.

Dog nephew has a bactericidal infection on his paws. He's getting treatment. So he has to wear the cone of shame.

He's such a happy little guy. He doesn't care. I can just hold the cone in front of him and he will stick his head in. Then happily runs off. The tough parts is for the humans. When he runs into our legs. That stupid cone hurts. The kids are looking to get a soft cone.

It's in the 110° range here, too. No lake to cool off in, but the pups know to lay in front of where the swamp cooler blows.

Nice looking pitbull. How big is your swamp cooler and how effective is it for the garage? I'm looking at a portable swamp cooler for my 3 car garage workshop in CA. We are hot and dry, it is supposed to hit 110 this weekend so it should work pretty well I'm hoping.

Swamp coolers work best where the air is dry.

I'm thinking I might go get some of those patio misters for a couple spots around outside the house...

Cooper is also in his cone of shame for a few days while his paw heals.. not his first rodeo and he accepts it as gracefully as he can.
The soft cone is the way to go, definitely way more forgiving on the legs, doors, walls furniture, etc.. IMG_1332.jpeg

It pleases the hell outta me to see all these happy fuzzballs we all have whether pedigreed or Heinz 57 Varieties like mine. Thanks everyone for continuing to post yours. They lighten up any day for me.

Here are mine yet again. 1st pic is the day I brought them home after responding to an ad for a "1 Yr old Labradoodle" (she has NO Lab in her. She's 27% Poodle, 20% American Eskimo dog, and 16% Pit Bull which I think must be an error(?). I call her an "Eskidoodle". I ended up coming home with her AND the little terrorist, Max who was 3 to 5 yrs old per the vet's guess but I now suspect older. 2 for the price of 1!
2nd picture was a few hours later after taking them to the groomer. I wanted them to start off clean, well groomed and well fed. The next day they went to the vet and got a clean bill of health. They're happy, bonded little souls.

It's the biggest side-draft unit I could find on Craigslist. :) I pulled one of the windows out of the shop and hung it from the wall. It works moderately well and a lot better than nothing. Like all swamp coolers less effective during monsoons and when it starts hitting those 120° numbers.

Obligatory dog picture because, you know...dogs.

That's my Otto. He helps me prep cardboard boxes to be kindling. It's amazing that a 17lb dog can turn a Crapazon box into 3 inch chunks faster than I can. Of course, I have to gather the chunks from all over the house.

Baxter only goes after white paper.

Dog help me if I ever leave a roll of TP loose within reach...

My two have been chewing at their paws lately. The bigger female more than the mini terrorist. Took them to the vet for another reason and she advised that it's likely an allergy. Said my area is known to cause a lot of allergic reactions among humans and dogs. She advised me to watch them and give them a Benadryl pill before they ever get to the point of breaking the skin, causing a "hot spot". Oh and NOT to use the liquid. She said the liquid is for children and the dose is too large for my dogs.
