I can finally join all of you with garage dogs. We just adopted a rescue dog. Some A-hole threw a litter of very young puppies in a box onto the side of the road, they went through the "system" until a no-kill rescue shelter started taking care of them. After being shuffled between some foster homes, we discovered him through PetFinder. My wife and I had been looking for a very small dog that fits in our tiny cars, likes going for long trips, will like sitting around the garage will we work on our cars, and will force me to take daily walks for my health.

We named him Frisco, he is a 10 month old Chi-Weenie (Chihuahua, Dachshund, plus something else?). 16 pounds of smart little pooch. Took him only 1/2 a day to learn how to ring a bell on the door to go outside. I hope to teach him to bring me a 13 mm wrench and not a 12 mm. In his first 3 days, he has already adapted to our life and I expect as he gets used to everything (3-3-3 rule), he will be a perfect fit.

I've never had a small dog before. We used to have Siberian Huskies so this is quite different for me.

My old shop dog One Eyed Clyde went over the rainbow bridge last spring. Our new pup is a beagle. He is only interested in what can he find to put in his mouth and tear up. He's not ready to lay at the garage door on overwatch duty. Dude can run the few times he escaped the fence. He loves his frisbees though.

Max, my miniature terrorist.
Super loyal, quite affectionate with me but it took years. I rescued him and my other dog, Fifi 3 years ago. Took a couple years. Before, he would shy away from my hand when I'd reach to stroke him. If I fuss over him, pet him? He acts embarrassed, won't look me in the eye. This poor little lap dog wasn't treated right in the past, maybe abused. Finally, after all these years he'll very occasionally give my hand a few licks of affection. Vet guesses he's about 8. I roll up a blanket like this for him every night on my bed. He LOVES it.

Seven years ago today I bailed this guy out of doggie jail, brought him home, and gave him a name - Joe.

He was left in the outside after-hours cages at the local animal shelter with no name and frostbitten ears. As far as I've been able to piece together, he was living on the streets for a while with his brother. Young pups either abandoned or lost. When he got here he was still in survival mode, but he settled in pretty quickly once he realized he could count on a warm place to sleep and regular meals.

In his previous life someone used to care for him enough that they taught him how to ride on a 4-wheeler and a snowmachine. That was when he was a pup - he doesn't fit quite as well on the seat at 80 lbs. He'll still crawl up on my chest when I'm laying on the couch. :D

Joe's first ride on the 4-wheeler. I've got a long driveway (500') and it's a lot quicker to use the 4-wheeler rather than the tractor if it's a light snow. He was pretty good about sticking with me, so I figured it was good exercise to let him chase me back and forth at 20 mph. After about a half dozen passes down and back, I stopped at the far end. He immediately crawled up on the seat and planted himself. WTH? So I went with it. He rode that bike like he owned it.

I bet he's just really smart, and gets what you did for him. My Otto, who'd never been outside of a white plastic box before he came home with me, jumped into the Dingo bucket and rode in it all over the yard. And then wanted to ride with me on the garden tractor. Still does 11 years later.

Little Olly joined us yesterday and is already starting to find his feet.

The garden is his favourite place to be, so it would seem my efforts to improve the lawn over the last two months were worth it. Having said that, I think I have a digger on my hands.

Bear is really feeling cabin fever, thank the good Lord I bought him a plush.
He's really enjoying it and these are the best I have found, 5 days in and it still has a squeaker.
There is stuffing and there's still more left.
Highly recommended for crazy animals.
I bought a 2 pack.IMG_3545.jpegIMG_3547.jpeg

Just back from the smaller of our two local dog parks. The larger one is closed for lawn refurbishment.

There was a super cute all black Lab mix. A little wiry-haired maybe a bit of Schnauzer in him. Cute as hell little guy that will grow big. He was very affectionate to all. The owner told me a friend had found a box of six puppies abandoned alone up on Glendora Mountain Road - a local route that goes into undeveloped hill land where all kinds of wild animals live. If those puppies had been there into the dark they'd have been eaten by coyotes for certain. We also have bobcats and bears too I hear.

I just can't imagine how (pardon the vulgarity) ******* heartless people can be to leave babies to be torn part by wild animals. WTF?! They were 6 weeks old according to the vet they were taken to. Heartless lousy mofo's.

Anyway, rant over. The people that found them have found permanent homes for them all.

I posted in this thread a long time ago about my boy Charlie. We lost him a couple years ago. It really broke my heart. I struggled for a while after him. Fast forward and we moved and bought some property and I'd been wanting another buddy. We drove to Bardstown this afternoon and picked up this little chonky Boxer, and named him Dale.
