AFAIC, you are absolutely right, but why would you think people think that makes you a typical lefty?...

Because of the stereotypical "bleeding heart" label. Which I actually take as a compliment but without going into politics, I think THE greatest thing about the U.S. is that you and I are having this conversation and not trying to kill each other.

That's not so typical of diametrically opposed points of view in many other countries.

They're a fantastic breed. Many people think they need a lot of exercise and that they can be frenetic but they're so laid back it's untrue. I'v had several over the years and dealt with many more.

Racing Greyhounds tend to get a pretty rough deal. Lots of training and cages and not much association with humans so they certainly do flourish when 'rehomed'. She's a huge part of our family.

A friend and his wife adopted 2 racing greyhounds (Stan and Kyle) and they say the same thing. Tragic past life. Current good life = Good Dogs!

We have a rescue German Shephard. She has a bed in the shop and she hangs out with me when I'm in there.
Her name is Tzira.

Oh, I am no lefty... Far from it....

Sophie, our Great Dane, is a rescued animal, and is the best dog I've owned in my almost half a century. I'm not a very emotional guy, but it's gonna be hard when her time comes.

Sam the Hell Dog. We've now had him for one year. Sam and Hope is in the first pic, and Sam and Suzie is in the second pic.

Everyone we have talked to said that Sam would eat up the little ones, nothing could be further from that. All three get along fantastic.

And as far as Sam being Sam the Hell Dog......I may have to quit calling him that now. He went away a holy hellion and came back a hell of a dog. 10 days of training really changed him, along with the two girls which I think helped also, but mainly the training. It's so nice now that he isn't all hell bent on being a holy terror at night when we go in, and it's really nice that we can let him ut to go to do his business, or just to let him out and run some without having to have him on a leash. Training was expensive, bit it was well worth it, we think.

My current buddy - HRH Renn Nicholas, as a puppy. That puppy is now 138 lbs of love. You may notice that Renn gets as excited about the cars and garage as I do.

And now Renn at full size (we hope...)

DWS....speaking from experience, if that Golden is 138, please get some weight off of him. A full grown Golden should weigh in around 90 max. The reason i say this is that a Golden's makeup makes them susceptible to hip problems. Our female Brandi, right after we had her spayed, plumped up. She was running and all of a sudden stopped and pulled her leg up. We took her to the vet the next day and she tore out her ACL. He did the conventional surgery to repair an ACL, and at the time, we ourselves didn't know, but Brandi was really too heavy to have the conventional surgery. We got her home, and had to take her out using a sling. In less than 24 hours, she blew out her other ACL. We had to take her to Ohio State MedVet and they did TPLO surgery on her. Surgery alone was almost $4000.

She was never to run again like she should. Also her leg that had the conventional surgery ended up over the years developing bone cancer. We finally had to have her put down last year due to the cancer being so aggressive. All in all, we had almost $10,000 in surgeries in her back legs which I feel was partly our fault for treating her so nice. A little treat here and there, but not a lot. And after her surgery, she acted like she was starved. I believe that came from having to board her for a month for rehab. According to our vet, a Golden should have no more than two cups of food a day. And since Brandi could no longer run, she couldn't keep her weight down.

Sam the Hell Dog is one year old, and is good size as far as height. I weighed him the other day at the groomers, and he is right at 60 lbs. He's full-size, but he's lean because he does get a chance to run and exercise.

So for your dogs sake, try to slim him down some :thumbup:

A couple of pics of Reilly J. Dawg performing QC inspection on engine builds. I had a white dog before. Black is a much better color for shop dawg duty. :)

Yeah, well I work QC and no one ever accuses us of being the brightest bulb....but I wouldn't lay down under an engine on what might be a Harbor Freight engine stand!

I discourage that laydown spot, but he likes to slump against something, and he likes to be where I'm working.
He just keeps appearing there, and I shoo him away for a while.
Lather, rinse, repeat...

I've got one of those Kuranda beds in my shop. Tzira is trained (sorta...) to immediately (sorta...) go to it when I say "In your bed!" when she gets under foot...

I'm glad to see that there are quite a few rescues for Greyhounds. A few years back, the owners would just kill them if they became losers. Greyhounds with a lot of their racing owners are like you said....the dogs lead a tragic life, but end up making fantastic pets.

We have a guy down the road from me and he drives a motor home. The exhaust is right out the back, and then he has his dog trailer hooked up behind. I'm really surprised his dogs haven't died from carbon monoxide poisoning. Or he's dragging those poor dogs around in a trailer that to me is more suited for Beagles, and he's keeping them there in 100+ degree heat. I understand they are "just dogs", but myself, I have a compassion for most animals.

My two "helpers. I find it very hard to get frustrated with projects with these two around. Even when they get under foot.

Exactly! She once stole half a cup of timmies from my table, dumped it on the floor, lapped it up then ate the cup!

My Father In Law had a beagle that would drink from his coffee mug when he went outside to work in his garden. He couldn't figure out how the cup would go down so fast until he left a cup on the picnic table and caught the dog in the act.

Cats like to scratch paint jobs, so mine stay in the house and take care of pest control.

The little guy keeps a watchful eye from the front window

Two buddies.
One is a rescue, the bigger one, about 12 years? not sure. 2nd we got as a pup. They are very rarely apart.
typically they hang out front while I create more scrap metal in the garage.

Surprised the short hairs stay put in the yard. Buddy has one, and while she's very obedient, and knows where she belongs, she's just to damn curious. There's been plenty of times she wandered back in from the woods after being gone for a couple hours covered in mud, thorns, and everything else you can imagine. Luckily he lives on the edge of the Huron National Forrest, no real traffic to worry about her getting into.

My shop buddy, Squirt the mini Dachshund. He helped me "inspect" the shop construction and test out many vehicle repairs during a test drives. He is 16 now likes the house alot more than the shop and has slowed down in the last couple of months.

Edit: RIP Littl' Buddy missed but never forgotten...
