Here's an up to date picture of Sooner. I started this thread SIX YEARS AGO, incredibly and it still going strong and so is he.
He turned 12 over the Labor Day weekend and for 100 lb. dog he's in good health. I know it can't last too long now. 12 is a pretty advanced age for his size but he still loves being near me. He's a great dog and my best friend.

Thanks Bodyguy! He's always had a pretty face. My girlfriend says he looks like he's got eyeliner on. He's a sweetheart.
He loves trucks too. He can't get into mine anymore; legs aren't strong enough. Ve got to help him which isn't easy given his size. But once in he LOVES sticking his nose out and soaking up the smells.

This old man is 17 1/2. Last night is rear legs started going out, and couldn't walk. I had to help him outside and support him while he went to the bathroom. After a trip to the vet, it's most likely arthritis. At his age, he was still running around, chasing his little brother. He refuses to realize hi's old. It's killing me to see him like this. He's so confused about not being able to move like normal, but refuses to give up. He's able to walk a bit today, and doing all he can to stick to me around the house. It's a horrible feeling knowing his time is coming, but I'll do all I can for him until the last moments. He's sleeping in his bed now, I'm heading to the living room to sleep by him. I'll throw a blanket down and sleep on the hardwood floor next to him, just to be close.

Good for you that you're as loyal to him as he has been to you. He only knows you and when he's confused or experiencing soreness/pain he wants the only thing he knows that is comforting; you!

Not cheap but I'm gonna get one for Sooner soon. His back legs give out or he easily trips himself by not lifting his paws as much as he used to. How's your pup for fatty tumors under his skin? Sooner is loaded with them but they don't cause him pain yet and have not proven to be malignant yet.

Got up this morning and he was right next to me.
He was adopted at 4 from a kill shelter. They really do know what you've done for them. And yes, I'm all he knows, well me and his not so little, younger brother. When we are out of town visiting my parents, he sticks to me like glue. He doe's have quite a few fatty tumors, but no issues.
I like that first one you posted, it would support him right where he needs it. Today he is doing pretty good. Has a hard time getting up, but once he's up and going he gets around ok. Still have the help him up and down the steps into the yard. Took another day off work to make sure he's going to be ok. I don't think they like it, but oh well. Some things in life are more important.

Wow everybody has really great looking pups, cats, birds and I even saw a couple lizards! 
Here's mine and the story behind him:
Loki
He's an adopted Military Working Dog. He's got an ID number tattooed in his ear and he's always "on duty" if we're up moving around. He's a rare color I've never seen before, called silver sable, mostly black with some red and silver under-tones. He's a nut!!
We got him about a year and a half ago from Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. He was about 3/4 of the way through training and had started internal building searches for drugs and explosives. He didn't like tile floors, still doesn't, so they failed him out. We had been on the waiting list for about 2 years and I had forgotten about it. They called from the base, said "We have a dog for you, would you like to come take a look at him?"
I told the wife we had to go look at him, and it was love at first sight! The best thing about him is that I can leave the garage doors open and he won't go any further than his bed just inside the door from the house! LOL
I'm going to have to do something different to the floor in the new garage I'm going to build or he'll never come in it... maybe race-deck or something like that.

Molly. She likes to keep me under close observation when I'm using powered cutting tools. I think she's just waiting for a snack-finger.

Here's our 6 month old German Shepherd/Yellow Lab/something. She's still too curious in the garage right now for me to be calm when she's in there.
Looks like it has some Dingo in it. Surely not.
Not really sure what the rest was. But she's much smaller then our friends 120 pure blood Yellow lab and another friends 105 pound pure blood German Shepherd. We tried the DNA tests and it only came up with 3 generations of those 2 breeds and Chow... either way she's awesome when not in puppy mode and trys to rearrange the garage.

Wow, it was only the prior page and only mid November when I posted my latest pictures of Sooner saying what good health he was in for 12 years old. He passed on Monday, December 14th. I posted a separate thread on it and everyone was SO thoughtful in offering their condolences. Thank you.
I'm watching tv and he's not at my feet as he has been for the last 12 years. I'm heartbroken about him and I think I always will be on the verge of tears when I think of him.
My final tribute to my Sooner boy is to post a photo of him as a tiny puppy. Huge paws already showed how big he'd be.
Give your pups all a lot of hugs and belly rubs. They're gone WAAY too fast and though I've said it on the other thread I'll repeat it here: If a dog doesn't deserve to go to Heaven then nothing and no one does. If there's a Heaven and I somehow qualify I don't want to go if Sooner's not there.

Dan, time is a healer . You will get past the tears as time goes on. You will never forget him, but it will get easier. He will always be in your thoughts, but the tears will become less and less. The tears are a reflection of how much you loved Sooner. Be proud that you and he were so close. Be proud that you're shedding tears over him. At time like this I think of all the animals that are mistreated, dumped off to become strays , and put down because " we have a new house or furniture & don't want the stupid animal to ruin it?

There's no words that could be offered to help ease the pains and heart breaks of loosing a great friend and family member. And as I'm sure you know time will eventually help ease the pain. I like everyone have gone through similar loses and while we know that we don't know exactly what you're going through we can understand. I know it won't help ease the heart ache but after 4 years I still miss my little 13 year old puppy who I grew up with. And while we do have a new one in the family she could never replace him but she sure does a great job and being my new four legged friend.

I almost feel like starting a new thread on "Just Fun" dog pictures. Silly stuff they do, ridiculous situations they get themselves into, etc.
I need to remember all the many happy times my Sooner Boy gave us and seeing all your furry buddies being screwballs will ease the sad feelings I'm living with.

Exactly! Hold on to all the good memories throughout your times together. Those are how I remember my boy, and his last day laying in the yard together eating all of those yummy things he wasn't allowed to before during his last hours before we took him to the vet where he took his last breath laying in my lap. That's still hard for me to think about. His ashes are still on my night stand with this picture of the 2 of us. Someday I'd like to spread them somewhere, but don't know where or when.
