Time helps - a lot. But, I can still get teary eyed over any of the 4 dogs we've lost in the last in the last 12 years or so. Reading about Sooner just brought back a flood of memories and tears.

Hang in there Dan.

Dan, I'm so sorry about Sooner.

This is my son's 6th birthday present in 2003. Son just turned 18 and she's
12. He has walked her a mile most days since he turned 10. She's taught him a lot about responsibility. Her name is Arlo. He'll be leaving for college in the fall.

Let's see your lap dogs.

Those cute little furballs that love to cuddle up on your lap.

Here's mine.

They like to be near us at all times. I told my wife she might want to take them to the store with her in her purse like the celebs do.

For some reason she declined.

This is George.
He's a 5 year old Boston. Just an awesome dog.
I took this picture yesterday as he was staring out at the back yard, contemplating life's greatest mysteries.

Sure I posted a picture or two of Torque before, but I don't remember so here's some more. Not much of a shop dog, pretty much hates it in the shop. In the summer its no big deal. He has the whole yard to roam stopping in to say hi from time to time. Winter isn't so easy. Granted this year has been pretty weak, being an indoor dog, he is not much for being outside in the cold. In the shop he stands by the door whining to go out. Let him out he goes 2' and turns back in because its cold. He can be a little pain in the ****, but he's my pain in the ****.

Here are my new pound hounds.. 5 months old lab/hound mix, brothers. They already get excited when I say "Lets go to the shop"!!

Scooby.. the trouble maker

Cooper.. love to play fetch already, attached to me big time.

Having fun, Coop is always stretching out like this. Must feel good!

Already pretty comfortable with me puttering around.. Nothing really bothers them so far..

Dan.. so sorry for your loss. I've only had these two for about a month, but I'd be devastated to lose them already, and can only imagine when its 10-12 years from now..

Thank you again guys.

I was at the local outdoor mall today and a man came along with a one year old blonde Lab who looked very very similar to my Sooner Boy. He had the gold ear tips and the pink nose, ironically called a "Dudley" nose - which was the name of my prior black Lab - Dudley. He was a GREAT dog too. He's been gone 6-7 years now.

Needless to say, I teared up for a second but then the pup wanted to be scratched and played with, etc. I told the man I had just lost my 12 year old blonde Lab in Monday and after that he let me play with his dog awhile and asked a bunch of questions about Labs. All in all, I felt much better after having him for a few minutes.

Sooner's collar is resting on his big bed in our living room and I say goodnight to him every night. His picture with his paw on my leg is my iPad wallpaper and my son is in town for the holidays with his dog, Oly. Who is a HUGE Shepherd/Doberman mix. Which sounds aggressive but he's a total baby. He towered over Sooner but was a little pup with Sooner years ago and was totally submissive to him. They were buddies and he's been looking for him, we can tell.

Sorry to here about your loss Dan.
I know the day is coming as Snugs is almost 12 as well.
After seeing Torque had to put mine up.
Know what you mean by them being a pain.
I get lot's of exercise letting him out, just for him to decide no one is outside and he needs back in.
Here he was watching me work on the shop. Always there to help or more the less get in the way.
Hard to use the computer with out some help. He's a GJ fan too.
Great dogs. Very smart.
He has trained me well!!

Nearly complete with the new race shop and after loosing our 19-year old cat, it was time for a dog. Stella, the Australian labradoodle is the newest addition.

At my newly acquired foreclosure; Cooper "helping" me replace sill plates, band board, and floor joists from an improperly poured concrete porch at the front door. In 1961 we just weren't quite sure how to do everything...Modern home-building was a bit new and fast.

Lined the craw space and here he is with the cardboard liner roll. Please ignore the two dying trees and chain-link that need taken care of:

Dan,

I'm sorry to hear about Sooner's passing. It's never easy for a dog-lover. I'm sure that Sooner is looking down on you now and wishing you the best.

Thanks so much guys. We have three other dogs. Crazy? Yes.

Sooner was our only dog until about 4 years ago. My sister adopted a dog she found on Craigslist for my mom but mom didn't take to her because she wasn't the same dog that she'd had:dunno:. She's a Corgi mix named "Bella" (10 yrs old) but that's her name. She's very sweet.
I thought that was all until two years ago. My brother-in-law's neighbor passed away due to cancer and he made by brother in law PROMISE to keep them together. My girlfriend never asks me for ANYTHING but asked if we could take them? I've never been a small dog guy but I love dogs and admit these two are sweet, specifically devoted-to-me little dogs. They've both been right by my side since Sooner's passing. Joey s on my lap as I type this. They seem to know there's a change in process.

The poodles; Joey & Sugar, are probably about 6-7 so they will all be with us for quite awhile. They sleep together in Sooner's bed. Joey noses Sooner's collar that we have left on his bed to "hold his place". And of course. Say good morning. And good night to my Sooner Boy everyday.

Merriest of Christmases, Happiest of New Years and Happy Hanukkah or Happy Kwanza, as may apply to each of you and yours. Best, Dan

I'm so sorry to hear of Sooners passing, I do feel your pain.
I did get a chuckle when I read that you have a house full of K9s
Time is the cure for the pain, but the memories only get better
Have a Merry Christmas today and a happy new year.
Thankyou for your friendship this past year

Wow, it was only the prior page and only mid November when I posted my latest pictures of Sooner saying what good health he was in for 12 years old. He passed on Monday, December 14th. I posted a separate thread on it and everyone was SO thoughtful in offering their condolences. Thank you.

I'm watching tv and he's not at my feet as he has been for the last 12 years. I'm heartbroken about him and I think I always will be on the verge of tears when I think of him.

My final tribute to my Sooner boy is to post a photo of him as a tiny puppy. Huge paws already showed how big he'd be.

Give your pups all a lot of hugs and belly rubs. They're gone WAAY too fast and though I've said it on the other thread I'll repeat it here: If a dog doesn't deserve to go to Heaven then nothing and no one does. If there's a Heaven and I somehow qualify I don't want to go if Sooner's not there.

AMEN BROTHER!

Our dogs are more then just our pets, they're family. They're loyalty and companionship will forever go unsurpassed. Even after a rough day work, coming home in the evening to house full of clatter, with them jumping around, barking, throwing their Jolly Ball at my feet for me to toss ... Changes everything!

I'm so sorry for your loss!

Absolutely humiliating! Not to mention that it's 75 degrees here today and the poor dog is panting from the heat.

For what it's worth, I had a similar issue with an aging Gordon Setter - tried lots of gimmicks then found a company in Colorado that sells a harness called "Help Em Up" - we bought the one for the rear end. Result was just fantastic - added a year to his life.
http://helpemup.com/
My wife may have donated the harness to our vet - but maybe not - if we still have it, maybe can loan it to you.
Lastly, we also used a product called PHYCOX to help with the hips - big improvement as well.

Merry Christmas fellow dog lovers. We took our boys out on a nice hike this morning and they'll each get their own steak along with us for Christmas dinner. It wouldn't be a happy holiday without them.

Good on you for keeping your fur balls happy.

Bella is on my lap as I type with one hand and lightly pet her head & scratch her long pointy ears with the other. Joey is beside us and Sugar at my feet. They're priceless. Tired from watching all the festivities f the day and of course everyone giving them table food on the sly.

Just a reminder for the New Year: Always consider the adoption of a dog or cat in need. Rescues and animal shelters are also looking for volunteers and fosters

My wife and I volunteer and foster a dog for a local rescue. Every year, they have a year-end gala to raise money for the rescue. Local businesses and artists donate items for the auction, and 100% of all monies raised go directly to the animals. In the past, we always wrote a check. Last year, I decided to make a custom dog bed for their auction. This year, I decided to make them two paw-print LED lights. The acrylic one comes with a remote that allows the user to select any color, have it static or in flashing modes, dimmable, etc. The large one is purple (some camera flashes makes it look bluish).

Here are some pic's:

This is the best thread on here with great people, you got to be you all love dogs :)
I had to put down our dogue de bordeaux yesterday, I am pretty lost without him today not laying by my side in the office but I know from past dogs it is part of the deal. He only made it to just over 7.5 years old and cancer just ate him alive. He was wagging his tail even though very sick right up to the end. Dogs are best!

Terribly, terribly sorry to hear of the lost of your furry buddy. With my Sooner Boy so recently gone it tears me up to read that others are going through it too.

I went on eBay the oher day and ordered window decals of blonde Labs to put on my (Sooner's!) truck to remind me he ALWAYS rides with me, even now that he's gone he will never be forgotten. Maybe you could do something that reminds you of your boy?
Best to you in your grief, Dan

I just made Gracie's last vet appointment today. We had a grand last week. Treats, games, whatever walks she was up for. As of last night she is rejecting food and drink and is unable to stand or do the necessary. Her bladder cancer metastisized. She has lucid moments. We're going out for one last 'walk' in the snow squall. She loves snowstorms. I really hope she passes in the night, cause I'm going to have trouble driving to the vet tomorrow. I've never been in this position before.

I am so sorry.
My first shep george was 14 when I made that trip

I held his head in my hands as he passed

Stay strong
You gave her a good life.

This poem hit me in the heart after george went

I hope it gives you comfort also.

That said
I cant even read it without tearing up
And george has been gone 8 years

My heart goes out to those of you who have lost their friends recently. I tear up just thinking about passed pets. I hope the new year brings you some lessening of the pain.
