Ugh, that's a terrible story. What do you mean, "they threw him away"?

They literally just put him out on the street, injury and all? Or was he given up to a rescue agency?

On a happier note, some may remember the pic I posted 2 years ago of Quigley the Hellcat, whom we got when we first glimpsed Max's mortality. Max then surprised us and lived another good two years. Quigley got his nickname New Year's Eve in 2013 when we heard a crash, while playing cards, and found him to have toppled my deceased Mother's ceramic Christmas tree, which the wife had made for her in 1978, into several pieces. Could have killed him, but he was a kitten and demanded attention. Still does, at 2, and is rather mean and/or pesty when he doesn't get it. But he can lower my blood pressure far more than raise it with his amount of affection. Atop the linen closet, where he and Kaylee seem to hit their mark without ever missing, or falling, to my amazement.

"threw away" maybe a bit of overstatement.:headscrat They just didn't bother to do anything about the injury because "we just figured he would die". Can't make any money off of dead dogs. I heard about it from a friend and asked if I could have him, couple of vet visits and several hundred dollars later, my best buddy and constant companion.:bounce:

"Why yes, as a matter of fact. I WILL kill you AND eat you if you mess with my master's tools!"

What a beautiful pooch!

Thanks!! She is a sweetheart. At 85lbs she is a lightweight compared to her older brother who is 105lbs. But she follows me everywhere and won’t let me work in the shop alone!

First, yes GOOD man. Thankful there are people like you in the world.

Second, that's absolutely unconscionable! They let the poor puppy suffer immeasurable pain and suffering just because, "he was going to die anyway"?
God had better be merciful to these people unlike how they are.

Our boy Zeus will fetch a ball once. After that if you throw it again he looks at you like "I got it the first time. Your turn now."

Zena on the other hand would run herself into heat stroke if you keep throwing it. I actually have to tell her "That's enough, go get a drink and take it easy".

This is Jake. Purebred Golden Retreiver. He was around 2 in these pictures. He is almost 4 now and 15 lbs heavier. He is my right hand man and goes with me everywhere i can take him. Boy will lay around the shop all day and watch me work.

The OP said it was OK to post cats so here is Mr.Peepers my garage helper.

Here he is inspecting the tunnel of my snowmobile while we were installing a new suspension...

Although it's painful, Penny and I have been looking for a little brother or sister for her. Seemingly endless pounds and rescues and adoption clinics....... She's made nosies with at least 100 other dogs. Non clicked. She just turns her head and tries another one.
Well today she showed a lot of interest in a little boy. A Maltese puppy mill rescue named Harvey. Poor little buffer has no front teeth. Anyway she seemed so excited over him that I put in for him. She seems upset that he couldn't come home with us. We'll see how that goes. They want a reference and to visit my house and then we foster him for 30 days if they approve of us. Cross your fingers!

Two bits of news on the dog front.
Harvey fell through. Apparently going for a romp on the back 40 with your dog is a bad thing and I'm banned.
AND in a bizarre twist of fate. I'm getting to go through what I went through a couple weeks ago. Penny collapsed this AM and we rushed her to the vet. She has acute renal failure. They gave her some subq fluids to prop her up long enough to say goodbye. She's watching TV right now as I type this. So, if anyone has some good thoughts for a great heart in a failing little body as she makes her way to the unknown...

I don't think I can have Torque out in the shop any more. He go spoked by a pop of the torch a few weeks ago and hasn't been the same in the shop since. He is anxious in a similar way to how he reacts to fireworks. Also he becomes very attention needy. Tonight I'm under a truck putting a brake line in and he is standing on me. It maybe is a super clever trick to get out of the shop as he pretty much hated it out here before.

So sorry to hear about Penny...

But this: "Apparently going for a romp on the back 40 with your dog is a bad thing and I'm banned. " baffles me...

Playing with your dog in a field is a bad thing? :headscrat

Oh man, this is terrible news. SO sorry to read this. As I've been posting, my Sooner Boy (avatar) went to Heaven a month ago (can it possibly be that long already?!). I'm just terribly sorry to hear of your situation. Prayers for Penny. Stay with her to the last, it'll kill you but she deserves it.

The subq fluids did her more good than we thought. Penny had one good day and an OK day. We went out for a 'walk' and sniffed some favorite places, ambled about a bit a few times. It sure perked her up a lot, but she ran out of energy fast. She went way downhill this evening. Everything went south. I held her and gave her what comfort I could. She passed about an hour ago in my arms. I'm in a strange calm place right now. I can't sleep and I'm all cried out. It's almost like I'm relieved. We'll bury her next to Gracie in the morning. I'm sure I'll melt down then.

Kay, so sorry for your loss. I now it's hard but just take a moment and remember how good a life you gave her. She's with Gracie romping and young again! I am really struggling with righting this because I'm still grieving over Lexy. Gabby has really been a great new puppy but after 15 years of Lexy, its still difficult. Just know there are a lot of dog lovers in this thread all sniffling and grieving with you!

This is Dougal our Springer spaniel, now 12. He may look cute, but don't let the Mr. Innocent, "who - me?" look fool you, haha... We're onto him! He loves to carry things in his mouth and is so proud of himself for helping.

I swear he thinks he is human. He doesn't talk a lot though, but that's fine by me. He's my 2nd best friend next to my wife and is always there for you. When the day comes that he is gone, it will be really hard to take. Of all the dogs I've had over the decades, he is by far the greatest ever.

I feel for those that have lost their dog friends, esp. as of late.
