How could it be cheaper?

I go through about $200 of dog food a year. That would buy only about 55lbs of cheap meat.

My dog gets his regular food plus bits of "good" stuff. Like yesterday I cooked hamburger and I mixed in the little bit of grease with his food.
We buy “not fit for human consumption” meat. Been sourcing the meat for decades Nothing wrong with it. Just not inspected. Mostly necks and backs.
At .50 per pound it’s much cheaper than kibble. Freddy eats 2 1/2 cups raw meat daily along with some puréed vegetable. Ya know those pumpkins everyone toss after Halloween. We shred them. Add 1/4 to each meal for dog It’s some work but I feel our barking lot worth it
Acronym is B.A.R.F. Bones and raw food

I could have bought a brand new truck for what Scooter, the dog in my avatar cost me over his lifetime in vet bills. If someone ever offers to sell you a dog for a dollar- RUN!

Just kidding though, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat, he was a great dog, and I consider myself lucky to have gotten to spend his lifetime with him.

After spending thousands on surgery and chemo that didn't extend our little guy's life more than a few months and made him miserable, I have pet insurance on his successor; .another rescue, and it's been a godsend as she has all kinds of digestive related issues that took a long time to identify and find remedies for.

Lost our 15 year old Golden last fall. Trying to break in a new garage dog. So far he still hasn't figured out how to hold the flashlight for me. Banjo is a rehome when the original buyer couldn't make it work. It's our first experience with an Australian Shepherd, and I have to say going from a 15 year old, deaf, Golden to a 5 month old Aussie has been a shocker. Man he's a cute little guy though.

SUPER cute, WAAY damn smart.

My sister had an Australian Shepherd for many years and the issue with them is they’re genetically predisposed to herd. No harm intended of course but they will sometimes nip small kids as they see them as ripe for herding. They NEED a “job” and owners have to provide something for them to see as jobs. Still, I really loved hers. She settled down a lot after she was about 1-1/2 to 2 years old.

I'm on my 2nd Aussie, and I love them. Dan in Pasadena nailed it, they are super smart and need a job, and the innate herding instinct is a trip to experience. Just don't leave them to their own devices or they'll get into mischief.

I read it somewhere about them needing a job. Several of the herding breeds are noted as needing that. They are genetically driven and also genetically have the energy to do a full day's work of herding. Beautiful dogs too

We lost Holly our hairy teddy bear on monday. She was only a few weeks off turning 17 but had lost 5kg in weight over the past 6 months, was loosing the eyesight in her remaining eye, was struggling to walk and also had canine dementia so wasn't really sure where she was most of the time.
She's left a huge hole in our hearts as we'd had her since she was rescued at 3 months old.

Forgive me if I've posted this before, but this is our recent rescue, Buggsy. He's about 11 yrs old and was running out of options as his prior owner passed and nobody wanted to take him.

Now he's found another lazy, retired guy to hang out with. I bet I haven't heard him bark more than a dozen times in the couple months he has been here.

From our previous Lab, I'm sure glucosamine works. Dogs don't get the placebo effect. Best wishes, Jim to you and your dog,

Sorry for your loss. She looks like she was a real sweetheart. I understand the hole-in-the-heart thing, but just remember the good memories she gave you, and the good life you gave her.

Holly was on glucosamine capsules once a day plus one of the joint aid chew things and if we forgot one day you could definately tell as she'd stuggle to get out of her bed.

Was it plugged in? You'd think once would be enough to learn...Twice at the most. LOL
Sort of...

The extension cord is running from the shop to the chicken pen to run a birdbath warmer to keep water from freezing in one of their containers. Where it's plugged in to the wall is a smart outlet that I have only turning on when it's below 34f outside.

I do think it was on the last time he chewed through it as it tripped the GFCI it was plugged in to. I'm thinking he might have gotten a small shock as he hasn't seemed to touch it yet since I put it back out. I haven't been leaving it out quite as much either, so who knows.

We took in an abandoned pibble puppy who had been living in a Chik-Fil-A dumpster five years ago.

Solid dog with our kids and chickens. Loves truck rides. Was pretty scared to come in the garage for the first couple years but she follows me in now. Pretty sure she suffered some abuse before got here as she can be a bit skittish at times.
