I really like this style of Herbrand tappets. I already had T-21, T-22, and T-24. Then I found this double set of T-21 through T-24. They look like they were never used. They do have a few dots of rust that I need to take care of. Roll is not marked but seems like the original or they've been together for a long time.

I'm working on the T-1 through T-5s, don't have a T-3 yet. I have the T-21, T-22, T-24 singles available for trade.

The 27, is that WW2 kit?
That was one of the 5 engineers wrenches in the Dodge WC on-board kit, but they were supplied by Vlchek. These were most likely general inventory supplied to the Ordnance Dept for spares and general issue. The 725B is of course very common sizing, probably the most common DOE engineers wrench combination of the middle of the last century. Nice finds, but fairly common.

I purchase this rethreading kit (set no. 880.5) from a member here and it's been sitting for a couple weeks. Spent some time this morning cleaning some of the grime off of it and got it ready for the collection.

Looks like the set from the '39 catalog and is complete. I will note, that by the end of the war this set wasn't offered in this configuration however, the stamping on the handle IS NOT artsy like the catalog shows.

This is from the 51-M catalog.

and here is the set I have

IMG_7347.jpeg

...the water decal is in good shape still.
IMG_7350.jpeg

...you can see the stamping marks on them along with Herbrand Van-Chrome on the top.

...and finally when all put together.

Grabbes these brake spring pliers just because they're wartime with a very faint but unmistakable "8742" ASIS number forged into the flip side near the pivot.

Hey Folks , New to the group . Any ideas on the age of my Herbrand tool box ?
Welcome, I have a similar box, except mine has faded to orange on the outside. Not sure of the age. I tried to find this style of drawers in the old catalogs but didn't have any luck.

@M.R.Gillis and @ararat -

did you check and look for catalogs at International Tool Catalog Library? There should be lots of Herbrand catalogs there available for download in *.pdf format. ;)

14 different documents there at present. just a mouse click away.

free.

* but do remember to send them a Christmas present (in the form of check, or credit card. ;)

* "DONATE" button at top with little red heart. ;)

Pretty sure my first Herbrand was a skinny tappet wrench. I've picked up more over the years. Not many but I keep them in this approx 50s Herbrand box. I had the bottom but it was missing a drawer and parts.

As many of you know, I have a bunch of partial "S" wrench sets, including Southington, Lakeside, and Kraeuter, and a few scattered orphans, including Williams, Mossberg, and some others. This is the first Herbrand I have ever seen in the wild. Script logo. The dies for that forged-in No. "675" marking were placed by hand. You can see the outline and you can see the "5" slightly out of whack with the "67".

It may be a stretch to include this here, but I recently picked up a Bonney CV socket that is 31/32". Have you seen a wrench in that size?

WRENCH SIZES

31/32" is the old U.S.S. standard for 9/16" bolt/nut.

25/32" is the old U.S.S. standard for 7/16" bolt/nut.

19/32" is the old U.S.S. standard for 5/16" bolt/nut.

11/32" is the old standard for #8 hex screw. This size still common in electrical work.

Other size sockets were offered by many toolmakers for various unique automobile applications. The 1937 Herbrand catalog is very helpful concerning these sizes.

21/32” socket was designated for Ford Model A and B connecting rods and for V8-60 mains.

23/32” socket was designated for 1933-34 Chevrolet front main bearings.

29/32” socket was designated for Chrysler Corp shackle bolts.

Herbrand triangle era 1/2 inch drive dual pawl ~90 position ratchet. No USA marking so I assume it’s made offshore someplace. Quite decent quality, with reasonably low backdrag for a dual pawl. 4 teeth on each side of each pawl. Seems very rugged. “Knurling” seems very shallow but gives some grip. The other unusual feature is a three layer spiral retaining ring instead of the usual two. Anyone know where or by whom these may have been manufactured?

Pretty sure these were produced by Wright Tool & Forge in Barberton, OH. Ironically, the PowrKraft tools made by Wright also lack any Made in USA attribution, but certain those Montgomery Wards tools are in fact USA made.

Herbrand Automatic Transmission Tools box.
Blue- I have the same style box with the 1/4" and 3/8" drive tools. Any idea the date timeframe of this style? I checked AA and ITCL but it all seems to stop at the 1960s. I'm thinking late 70s into the 80s? Would love to know the model numbers from a catalog.1000025152.jpg1000025153.jpg

@Tom "Python" Aycock -
I have that exact same Herbrand 1/4" and 3/8" drive set (100% complete) and it was made when Herbrand was under the Triangle umbrella - after 1966 but before Herbrand actually closed their doors - which remains something of a mystery. @Private Lugnutz did some research on the demise of Bonney, which also got sucked up into the Triangle Vortex of Doom, but I do not know if the dates coincide.

Hey, what's the model # for the extension? Guessing it's a 3/8 drive and 3" long...the wife guessed the kit looked 1975ish and she has to be right because it's "her"brand...

And does your set have a specific kit #? Hoping there's at least a paper insert on yours...
