The H in a diamond logo leads me to believe this 5/8 x 7/8 12pt. Saltus wrench was made by Herbrand.
It came to me in an old Bell System tool box with a few other Bell specific tools. The #, R-3057 leads nowhere past a couple of E-bay listings also calling it a Bell System tool.
If you know more please share, if you want it I'll sell.

Starting to wonder if there's a husky connection

Wow. Nice catch. Makes sense. In 1895 the Herbrand Corporation was doing drop-forgings for others and making blacksmith type tools. In 1920 they were still only advertising machinists' screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, and an assortment of end wrenches. We know they were making primitive hot-forged machined sockets with long male drive tangs, turned with a primitive Tee handle (see below), we just don't know exactly when. By 1933, they had a whole line of modern hot-forged hot-broached drive tools. Maybe, like Williams (circa 1928), Herbrand used Husky until they could pivot and modernize.

Here is my unmarked Snap on FH1824 R3057-A 9/16"- 3/4" wrench. Maybe it was made for Bell systems also?

I scooped up these two SOE wrenches today. They were in a toolbox that had 12 point Truth sockets and 3/4” drive Truth Ratchet… the wrenches are 1 5/8 and 1 13/16”…

I think I might have found these wrenches in the Herbrand Catalog #47-M, 1934… wrench #’s 10 and 11… they are classified as Engineers’ and Cap Screw Wrenches.

I'm going pretty deep down the husky rabbit hole and there's a lot of things that just don't seem to have any documentation of. My other herbrand mighty mite case is slightly different which is interesting

That sounds reasonable. We had a lengthy discussion about Herbrand's logo - in this thread, as I recall - and it went through several changes, but yours definitely looks like "Herbrand".

curious. yours is 5/8" x 7/8" , and @Snaparxon 's R3057 is 9/16" x 3/4" :

9/16" is used on a 3/8" bolt head and nut and 3/4" is used on 1/2" head and nut. Maybe as the industry gravitated to using 3/8 and 1/2" bolts and the 7/16" and 9/16" bolts became less common Herbrand was out of business and Snap on made the new size wrench.

5/8" fits a 7/16" bolt head and 7/8" fits a 9/16 bolt nut

Here is a fun Herbrand find, a J916 1/2" flex 6 point socket, seen in the 1960 - 1966 catalogs.

My stash of Herbrand is pretty lean, so if someone needs it to fill out a set, let me know.

A Tiny DOE Wrench. 1/4 x 7/32. Herbrand no. 84. I’m assuming for carburetors and or magneto adjustment.

I brought a few Herbrand tools home on Saturday and left quite a few behind. It was odd to see so many at one time and challenging resisting the urge to buy them all!!

I figured the 1827 9/16" obstruction wrench might come in handy in my mixed-user-wrench box. I've got at least one other, but it's off living in its brand-name-box. The throats are cut so deep into this one that it looks a little funny.



The JC-624 3/4" drain plug socket is a fun one, with a spring clip retaining two BBs to hold the plug while removing and inserting it. (PROTO extension).



It's hard to believe the little 3821 1/4" x 5/16" ratcheting wrench is old enough to wear the 2,500,835 patent number that was granted in 1950, but apparently it didn't get used much.

Went to an estate sale Friday and grabbed up a cool older toolbox. Discovered a very nice Herbrand 1/2" drive socket set with drivers and accessories inside which made the $35 price tag on the box well worth the purchase! But I believe the sockets are a different time stamp than the ratchet? The ratchet has the script Herbrand with the flex handle having block script that appears in the 1949-1951 catalogs but the sockets appear to be in the mid 1950s due to their knurling but block style lettering. The box is missing the lid but would appear original to the set as the 17 sockets S-114 (7/16) up to S-136 (1 1/8) all fit snug. The non-socket side of the box is not large enough to house the ratchet and the flex handle.

Hit me up if you are going to be changing the clutch fluid on your 1932 Hudson or Essex. You can borrow the Herbrand 290 I picked up at the PIR swap meet.

The 1933 Herbrand catalog says:
“HUDSON ESSEX CLUTCH PLUG WRENCH No. 290. Forged from Chrome Alloy Tool Steel. Necessary to remove the clutch filler plug on Hudson and Essex 1932 cars. One end has a 5/16” forged square plug, the other end has a 7/16” hexagon. Finished in satin plate. Length 6-1/2", Weight 6 oz. List Price each.... $0.65”

Also found it 1934, 1937 and 1939 catalogs. Starting in 1937 they mentioned it could also be used on Plymouths.

To accompany my find from post #781, I purchased a Herbrand tool box and have outfitted a S19 speed brace and S-21 T-bar with it. Not seeing this box in the catalogs I'm assuming its likely a late 1960s or 1970s box (before they went to that woodgrain sticker effect). Gonna just label it as a 1950s 24 piece 1/2" drive set until I discover differently.

I just found this screwdriver today at a local junk store. It's a model 305E; it appears in Herbrand's catalog #57 from 1961 as a "spark-detecting screwdriver", "for testing high-frequency circuits".
The slot in the handle has a bulb in it.
I haven't tried to test it.
I like the stepped ferrule.
