I recently started a box rebuild with my son (pictured - not quite 1 year old yet). The box is a Macsimizer 1310.

Tear down is nearly finished. Two questions:

1. I have the Sapphire blue paint code in hex (040788). I am unable to get anyone to match the paint color using hex codes. Has anyone been able to find another way to identify the color so that it can be matched not using hex codes.
2. There are 44 drawer slides that need to be cleaned up and re-greased. Does anyone have a good method for cleaning the old gunk out of the slides? I have heard brake cleaner, but was hoping for other ideas. The drawers hardly move with the slides in their current condition.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I bought a gallon of w-40 and soaked the slides in a shallow wide plastic container over night. Spent another 5-10 mins sloshing the wd-40 back and forth in the morning. Blew them out with compressed air, wiped down with a rag and relubed them. They came out like new.

WD works, also (much cheaper) Simple green

Get a section of PVC pipe; cap one end, (sealed) fill with slides, fill with SG.

You can add a screw on cap if you want to get fancy, or just cover with saran wrap. let soak a few hours, pour out in something to keep the SG for later, Give a final rinse and scrub, and you should be good to go.

Wow...some nice tools and boxes. I feel a little embarrassed posting mine, but what the heck.

It's an old beat up Beach I grabbed for $150. Not everything fits in here, got some other stuff in a couple smaller boxes.

Miscellaneous. The little blue box in the left drawer is my bluetooth engine scanner I got for like $13 on ebay. If you have a non-apple smartphone you can get engine codes and live data with a free app called torque. Works awesome.



Plier drawer, some stuff is missing in the pic

Screwdrivers that have gotten old, waiting on Snap On replacements. Although the old school Stanleys have served me well.

Wrenches. Mastercraft Maximum/GearWrench and some mixed spares and a few standard wrenches of various makes.
I've got to say, the Maximum wrenches are impressive quality...





Misc junk, slide hammer etc.

Air tools, my new steering wheel puller on the left, ball joint press

Reciprocating saw, drill, grinder and some old less used standard sockets


It's not well organized at the moment, but I'm not super **** about that: as long as the tools are there and they work, great.

Thanks for the quick responses. I am new to the forum with this being my second post.

Does anyone know if the solution works better with the slides extended or if they are closed? Does it make any difference?

Had not thought of WD40, but had thought of several de-greasers, all of which seem to have varying opinions on which works best.

I like the PVC idea but may need a lot more cleaning solution and several sections of PVC to do the 40+ slides. If cleaning them extended works better, this may become the better option.

Nope, just a different type of job I have now. Was a dealership driveability and electrical tech for 20 years, now I'm sorta a PM/light mechanical (or whatever they can dream up) in a fleet vehicle dept. I took my big box to work at first and realized I don't need all that stuff at my new job...so I brought it home.

this is my first tool box, i got it today its not much but it was cheap and im always going to upgrade, but it will do for now for 100 pounds its actually pretty nice ball bearing slides and large enough for a decent sized tool kit like mine i added the martini sticker to fit the theme of the garage

Nice setup brit road garage. One tip for the images. Use the "IMG" link that photobucket provides on the far right side. It is a direct copy and paste for it to embed. Example (click on quote to see the code).

thanks man and i have no idea! its an old English make from what i remember but it has worn away

Here is my new wood top and a handful of drawer shots. I didn't bother with the half empty drawers or drawers with nothing interesting to see. I'm still struggling to fill this monster box(KRL7002). 8 months ago I didn't have much more than a cman 250pc set. I've bought and sold several boxes and a ton of tools to get to this point without spending a small fortune. I have MAYBE 2k out of pocket invested into the box and everything in it. The SEP discount helps ;)

I had a few minutes of down time today and made a quick video, figured I would share. Had to rush through it a bit as the first one I tried timed out. Left out the contents of my small end cab, which only holds a duramax special tool kit and various wire harnesses, coils, modules and some extra gaskets, etc.

On my what seems to be never ending quest to stick with my 26 inch tool box, I spent some time reorganizing my current tool box last night.

I was able to free up more room by trimming the socket rails. The end result was this.
