My girlfriend wanted a small workbench, so I recently built this for her. I removed the wheels from the lower toolbox and mounted the box to the lower shelf of the workbench. I put wheels under the workbench so she can move the workbench and toolbox together wherever she wants. I am not a wood worker, but it turned out ok.

I recently moved (again and for the last time I hope!) and got to build the workbench I wanted to build for a long time. I was given a sheet of bowling lane wood, which is the pine section I believe. I cut it down to 24" depth and belt sanded all the old coating off, then used water based poly for a top coat. The bench is 8' on the long and the L shape part is about 18". Someday I would like to paint the bench frame and legs black but that can wait. The floor is sloped pretty bad so I had to use some furring under the tool cabinets to keep them level.

Built the workbench and cabinets in the garage of our previous home years back. Brought them with us when we built the new home and shop in 2018.

Nice looking bench area.

I still have multiple boxes of trophies, plaques and awards that I had on shelves in my last shop. Can't bring myself to put them up in my new shop.

This is very cool. Everything is so clean too! The two chainsaw shelves are particularly impressive.

Thanks Z! The trophies are from autocrossing. The oldest is from 1974, the last from '98. I kept the ones that remind me of a particularly enjoyable event or the very good friends I played with in those days. A couple of them are my wife's!

Happy Motoring!

Really nice setup. I appreciate the gorgeous cabinets and pristine conditions of some who post. But nothing says home like a personalized space that works well and rocks the memories. Well done!

Fun thread!
I just moved into a new shop and it's still not completely organized; however, I did purchase three workbenches and am pleased with them. One workbench (36"x72") is hard maple and the two smaller workbenches (25"x48") are beech wood. All tops are 1-3/4 laminated, butcher block type. The tube steel legs bolt directly onto the wood tops as shown in the last picture.
I move my workbenches around the shop as needed. They slide easily on the concrete floor and I can level them with the oversized leveling pads with my foot.

Just moved into my dad's house last fall, and I'm slowly working on upgrading the 24x24 garage into a bit more of a full-on workshop. Here's dad's workbench after I cleaned it up a bit and reorganized underneath. I'm going to try to incorporate parts of into my new design.20240203_161632.jpg20240207_183241.jpg

I wouldn’t change a thing. That workbench is a practical tribute your father.

I would consider “adding-on” if you would like drawers, but I’d try to do it in a way that didn’t destroy anything.

The only issue is that I'm starting to work on insulating the garage so I can use it year round and the current bench is attached to the wall studs. I'll have to do at least a little modifying to work around that, but I've got some ideas.

Understood. Insulating and covering the walls with sheetrock or plywood after insulating would be a good move. You can adapt the bench to that situation and the essence of your father's workbench would remain. Just put a few legs in where the bench was supported by the studs then cut or remove the nails fixing it to the studs. You will want to add some sort of diagonal bracing to the rear to keep it from racking. 1X stock should be fine for that.

Or use a piece of plywood.

Here's mine I built a few years ago from some left over lumber when I made a mezzanine.

Here is a shot when it was clean once.

And this shot is just before putting the top on. Note the rediculous amount of wood. My goal was to use up some lumber and to make it very heavy so it would not move. There is alot of overkill here but it started because of the 4x6's. I needed the length for the mezzanine to be around 12-1/2 feet long but here the lumber store goes from 10, 12 then 16 footers so I had abunch of 42" 4x6. That is why I used so many for the legs and cross brace on the top.

Tired of never having my tools nearby while working on remodeling my dad's garage, so I grabbed some extra lumber and a set of locking casters on my supply run this morning and spent the afternoon putting together this quick 24x30 mobile workbench. It's my first bench build, and I'm pretty excited to put it to use tomorrow.

The top is a leftover piece of the 5/8" plywood siding from when the garage was built in 1980, which my dad had used as a sidewall on a shelf. Since I'm taking the shelf out, I decided to repurpose the piece of plywood for my bench, and thus keep something my dad used for something I'll use. I need to find another piece to make a bottom shelf and I want to add some "accessories" like a magnet strip to hold bits and screws and the like.

Side note: this is a smaller version of the 12-foot bench I'm designing for the back wall of the garage
