Here's one I did for my co-worker for Christmas. There were some screws used in construction, but most of it is held together with birch dowels. Drilling for 1/2" dowels 3" deep creates a lot of sawdust!

Here is one of mine. I have another steel bench from Princess auto too. I built all the cabinets and top a couple years ago.

Here is my old one 2.5' X 15' poured the counter top out of concrete.

and my new work bench
8' X 3.5' poured in place

How do you like the concrete counter in the garage? I poured them in the kitchen of my last house and liked them so I thought about doing some in the garage too.

I really like the way it looks but I wonder how it would hold up to hard use. It really is unique and pretty cool.

It is as think as most garage floors. I would bet it holds up quite well, especially if it is re-enforced. I would be more concerned about how much it weighs. I am guessing around 800 lbs.

Looks really good and solves a lot of problems with traditional work benches. You could add some dye or and make it look really cool too.

My small work bench I've built
Left room for a 20 gallon air compressor on the left
It's 36" high with 1/2" plywood and 2x4 frame, holds 400 pounds
From end to wall both sides are 8 foot and 24" deep
Cost was 75$

I covered bench top with steel plate left over from another project. Bench was made from leftover lumber after building garage. There are threaded holes where brake is so its not a permanent fixture. Salvaged cabinets from a friend when he remodelled his kitchen.

My Habitat Restore $10 per cabinet score:

Top is 2 12' pieces of laminate, so that gives you a hint on the scale :) I have 4 cabinets leftover as well.

I also have a rolling 4x8 with a vise I use for normal "workshop" tasks, with a OSB top I can replace when necessary.

I have 16, 80# bags of quikcrete 5000 in my kitchen reinforced with rebar and wire. I feel sorry for the next guy that don't like them

Built out of some c channel I was given.

Top is made of 15" x30" butcher block peices that were originally an old industrial flooring system.

LOL that's got better reinforcement in it than most peoples garage floors

It's pretty stout there because it has a 18" overhang for a breakfast bar. But the rest of it was lined with rebar and wire paneling connecting the rebar. I really do feel sorry for whoever has to rip it out. Plus it's 2" thick.

Here is mine, Work in progress. there is a 2x4 mounted to the wall, and then the 4x4 posts are notched to fit in to the 2x4 top frame so the frame rests on the wood and the screws are only holding the post in the right location, all the weight is transferred directly to the wall studs or the 4x4 posts.

The radio shack cabinet is built into the right side, and the toolbox that was left at the house when i bought it is built into the left side, Ill be mounting my hose reel above it and have it coming through a board that will fill in the area above that toolbox (like Jack Olsen did) Still need to mount my costco LED light under the cabinets to improve the lighting at the bench.

Finally got my bench done:

JLtogYSl.jpg

I used a 4x4 along the wall, lag bolted to the studs and simpson strong-ties for the two front corners. 3/4" plywood top surface.

Haven't picked a spot for the vise but I'm thinking along the edge by the door, since I won't need it that often.

Now I just need the add on drawers for the 44" toolchest and i'm all set

Here's what I'm working with. I built up the top with plywood after I got the vise to support its 50 lb weight. I put it where the grinder used to be. I also ran an air hose from my compressor in the garage and bolted it up under the bench, so I can plug in the coil hose in the shop.

Built a nice folding work bench for my one car garage. I will be building a second longer one once the weather warms up a little bit.

I really like that folding bench. I was talking to a friend of mine this week about a folding bench, because he has some limited garage space too. I'll have to show him yours.

Nice job. I built one (rougher than that) closer to the door than my primary bench thinking I would use it on occasion. It has never been folded up, I use it almost exclusively
