Any details on this build? What top did you use? Are the HF chests sitting on the caster wheels inside or are they sitting on something else?
The top is from an old 8ft gladiator workbench I had. Boxes are resting on the frame for the bench, wheels removed.Any details on this build? What top did you use? Are the HF chests sitting on the caster wheels inside or are they sitting on something else?
Very nice. Did you use a piano hinge to secure the top to the brace on the wall?
How do you like the gladiator cabinets? Thinking about getting them for my garage
Have the # GAGD275DRG Gladiator tool box. If their cabinets are same quality I would buy them. How do you like the gladiator cabinets? Thinking about getting them for my garage
Another version of the Harbor Freight workbench
VJ, I've been very inspired by Boyd's old shop too. Did you end up buying the same Berlin paint or did you find something else close? Please post what you used.
I have the exact same boxes: Two Craftsman bases and a Harbor Freight box. I'm about to do a reset in my garage and I just don't know if I can paint my otherwise good boxes green - though I love Boyd's and now yours too!
Inspired by Boyd's great thread (http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=180118), here is my new bench. I had two matching Craftsman rolling bases, then added a Harbor Freight 13 drawer unit. 2x4s for a base and frame, then a basic countertop from Lowe's to finish it off. The countertop is 2 feet deep, which leaves a nice area between the wall and cabinets to store lumber stock.
How did you manage the change in drawer layout on the HF44?Another version of the Harbor Freight workbench
Do you have an R32?
Nice Bimmer! 74-76 tii? Looks like minimal rust if any. Nice man cave too.
Thanks! Not mine, my best friends I'm building for him. With a m42 swap

Dan, I just used Krylon rattle cans, their "Painter's Touch 2x" in gloss Sage Green. It sure looks close to the Berlin that Boyd used. I sprayed a white primer coat first to make sure the red didn't mess up the green. Thanks!
[Edit: here's a pic of the can.]

Info on the under-cabinet lights? I really like the wraparound on the outside
Just normal lights than I fab'd up some wrap around deflectors. Under cabinet lights are switched power with a toggle switch mounted in Bench

Got them from McMaster Carr. Don't remember which exact ones I used, but they're pretty hefty and their ratings were well beyond what I needed. What feet and inserts are you using for the wood?

The deeper drawers are interchangeable with two shallow drawers.![]()
What is the standard height for your workbenches? As I finish my electrical, I've been using my scaffold ladder as a workbench, and have to say that I'm enjoying it's 41" table height. Works well for my 5' 8" body. Great for standing, would need a tall stool for sitting, but that's easy enough.
Anyone out there using a tall bench? How's it working out for you?
Still haven't decided what color to paint the walls, huh?
