Whatcha building there jorgezee? Maybe a 69 Camaro? Hard to tell with what I can see. More details please.

1969 Chevy Camaro. Working on sheetmetal now. Aftermarket panels are a pain. I might have to get professional help if I can't get them to fit better.

That's what I've heard. Are you using AMD or Goodmark? I've has to replace my lower valance panel and used OER. Fit like original, but I don't think they make big panels or skins. Have you been on the Team Camaro board (http://www.camaros.net/forums/index.php)? Lot's of good info and help there. Good luck!

There are earlier pics of this bench in this thread someplace, but these are taken where I live now.
Major sort out here this week, bench was on the other side of the garage & is still a project in progress. Most of that stuff on the top won't be there in a few days.

History of the bench is that about 23 years ago I was working on an A26 invader. We had a new prop sitting on a WWII vintage Hamilton Standard prop stand. Hung the new prop, boss said "chop that stand up & throw it in the dumpster"... Except I didn't. I took it apart, took home the lumber & used it to build this bench.

I'm a long time lurker and first time poster. The DYI benches on this thread and others greatly inspired me so I took the plunge.

We bought a new place in August with a 36x48 pole barn. While I'm still working on getting my shop together, getting some work surfaces in place is top on my list. This is the first and there will be two more similar. The benches along with my tool boxes will line one of the side wall. There will eventually be an 8 footer to the right of this one and a 4'x8' work table to the left of my tool boxes. I'm also trying to figure out what to do for overhead storage right now too: whether to build or buy cabinets or just build some shelves.

This one will be my primary/light assembly/misc bench. it is 6' long, 30" deep, 40" high. It is made from about 16 2x4s, 2 1/2" sheets of OSB, 5/8" bamboo flooring on top, 2 sheets of 1/8" Luan (sp?) for back-sides-front. The baseboard, backsplash, doors are from 1x4s. The drawers came from an 80's All-Steel desk.

Thanks for the inspiration.

My workbench/welding table. The 2"x4" frame started it's life as a shipping crate for some heavy equipment we received at work. I rescued it from the scrap metal bin, along with some other nice peices of tubing. A friend of mine had the 3'x5'x3/8" table top laying around and sold it to me for $50. I left a 6" lip around the entire table to make it easier to clamp to. When I get an air compressor, I'll sand the frame and paint it. Don't think I did too bad for fitty bucks :bounce:

Last Christmas I got 2 of my nephews a vice each to complement their growing tool collections. So when my girlfriend & I visited them a couple of weeks ago during a motorcycling trip we were given the job of making some workbenches to mount the vices on rather than being at either end of a sawstool which had been the temporary stand.

My sister had scrounged up some scrap packing timber at work, which was actually surprisingly good stuff for the job so after engaging the stakeholders in a design meeting we got stuck into the build. With a good selection of tools on hand including a sweet new drop saw, by mid afternoon we had the projects ready for handover. :D

The plan was to make them a height that the boys will grow into, & have some sturdy boxes for them to stand on in the meantime.

The boys aren't too far apart in ages so the simple solution to avoid fights over toys is just to get them the same of everything!

We also helped my bro in law who was busy fitting out the inside of their new shed. It's going to be a great space once it's done.

Cheers

That was one of my favorite things as a kid-having my own work bench right by my dad's. Nice job on the gifts and the benches! Good to see kids taking an interest in that kind of thing. I hope to do that for my own kids some day.

Heres some pictures of my simple project that turned in to a full on workstation. It all started with me asking to get some shipping boxes that kept getting thrown away at work made out of baltic birch ply. Well i kept thinking man these would make great cabinets and or building material in general. Well after I bought my house just over a year ago i got the OK to bring some home. I started by ripping off the feet and throw one up on the wall to see how it would look and it just kept going after that.

Thank you at the beginning of all this i stumbled on this site and i been hooked ever since. I started on it last August and that picture was taken in January. Its been a here and there project when i get time and resources. After buying the house money was tight and most was spent on the bathroom that needed some much needed remodeling. Almost everything that it was build out of was salvage and repurposed from here and there so that took some time sourcing everything. By the way cabinet doors are on the very long list of things i want to incorporate yet  I highly doubt ill ever be done. i added a couple more pictures below.

It looks real nice. Next time you bring home another crate you can use that to make a door or two. ...and don't lose heart. You will get it done.

I've got to admit that not having money for this type of stuff is a challenge. ...and seeing the NICE garages here makes it worse.

My little workspace:

3D428E11-A26E-427F-94E4-37B2973CC099.jpg

HF 44" box & drawer extension, and a 6ft Gladiator work bench which I picked up for $27 from sears outlet.com, with the help of a severely incompetent order pickup clerk at the sears I picked it up from.

BEST DEAL EVER.

So the HF 44" box DOES fit underneath a gladiator bench?! I have the 8' bench and got a similar deal from Sears. Not as good but good enough for me. I've been curious about this and every time I am in HF I always forget to measure the height of the bench before I leave to see if it will fit. That's great news. I need more space. My stupid Craftsman 26" triple stack is filled and taking up much needed floor space! Thanks for posting

For a low budget build from shipping boxes, I like it. ANd I really like the green and black. I would have never thought of doing those colors together but they look fantastic.

I was bored this morning and decided I needed another bench. Wanted a mobile one this time. Off to home depot for wood and some casters. Used 5" rubber casters.

New bench arrival lol

It's just standard mill finish stainless (2B). I thought about hitting it with a DA first before fabrication to give it a grainy look, but glad I didn't. I am a sheet metal worker, so I also did the metal fabrication.
