My bigger workbench now has a bottom shelf and my smaller workbench is on casters, and I just bought some wood to install a lower shelf.

Bowling alley bench.
It's well beat and has some character. Flooded with 2 coats of spar eurethane. Front edge is 2x angle for a crisp edge to bend sheet metal. Base is 2x2 .120" wall, blackened, oiled, and waxed. Next project is to build rolling cabinets to nest underneath.

Nothing better than bowling alley. Plus you don't have to worry about spilling beer on the top, good chance that's happened already.

I don't know if I posted pics of this bench or not. I had a wood bench that was deeper that I gave away to a so called buddy of mine and built this one. It's only 2' deep ad uses a standard box store counter top, but it does hold a lot of weight. It's 2' deep and 23' long and has (5) support legs under it. Once I get the small addition built onto the side of the garage, the bench and overheads will go over there to make some more room for my machines. I actually miss the other bench more as it was 32" deep. And that few inches makes a hell of a difference when working on the bench.

thanks guys. It was a ton of work (2 days) with the belt sander and the electric planer to level out the boards. I might do something similar, but with less wood and a plywood top. Probably something with 2x6s 4" oc with double 3/4' 5 ply on the top. I'll probably do another support leg with solid 2x6s because it was nice to be able to pound the hell out of things on the work bench with a hand sledge.

I didn't have a table saw back then I beat the **** out of that bench, but you really can't damage it too much. It was covered with grease, oil, tons of pound marks and drill holes. It looked more like this before I moved.

My new one. Folds down from the wall, which is super handy with a dead car in the way most of the time. It's 41" high and 32"W x 60"L, which is a bit too deep. I can't reach the wall behind it at that depth. It's plenty sturdy for me to jump on.

I put a piece of steel strapping on each side spaced out a bit so my drill hook can hang on there. That's been pretty handy so far.
The tie bar between the legs lets me just kick it in the middle to make sure they're both seated against the wall.

Thanks, I was rather pleased with myself. Works great for a tape measure, pen, and air nozzle also. The other side has a longer strip as these were scrap chunks laying around.

Almost finished with my new workbench. Old work surface was 2 2'x8' 2x4 tables with a lower shelf I made on the cheap. They worked great but collected far too much clutter and the plywood top was not ideal for welding, grinding, or other metal work.

New bench measures 2'x10' and has a 12ga top over 1.5" solid core doors. The frame is all 1.5" 1/8" wall square tube and 1.5" angle. The receiver will accept a vice, bench grinder, and whatever else I can come up with. Should have some completed pics this weekend, 2nd box is on the hoist sans casters and ready to go to it's new home.

Built this guy to replace the haggard one that the previous renters had. Build it on top of the washer and dryer to utilize previously wasted space. It does sit slightly taller than most benches but is a great height for standing next to and fits my needs exactly. The dryer controls are slightly more difficult to get to, but sometimes in life you have to get your priorities straight.

Was going to add another sheet on top so I used the "bad" side of the

Currently has 2 coats of pure tung oil.

Still organizing it currently.
13 Drawer and its very heavy.
Drawers slide very smoothly.
Stripped off several layers of paint and repainted.

Will post some photos of when its complete.

Purchased the red grooved trays and tray dividers from Dmark.
The black grooved trays came with cabinet.

I don't know if you can find my work bench under there. Most of the work gets done on a 3 x 6 sheet of plywood on some saw horses that I use as a table/work bench.

its cool, but a few things bother me

-location. i wish it was on the other side but its too damn heavy for me to move

-space underneath. I wish i could roll stuff under it (like a cart, stool, floor jack etc) or have space under it for larger items. i can fit my jack stands under there though, so i have that going for me, which is nice.

-drawers. i havent quiet figured out what i want to put in there. some of the drawers are harder to get out that others. i mean.. yeah i can put stuff there no problem. just not how i would have had it from scratch. I think if i was starting a new, i think i would just want a top with 4 legs. im picky as hell.

but what i love

-it is freaking solid. i can beat on this thing, and it doesnt bother it. I can put anything on it, and it can take the weight.

-character, patina, and it goes with the car and the garage quite well

Added 2 each 3/8" thick steel plates on bottom then attached 4 Colson casters
rated at 1000 lbs. each. Added a foot operated floor lock and a handle on the side.
