This workbench came from a factory my Dad worked in for over 40 years. They closed down and I purchased it at auction last year. The Wilton 400 bullet vise and work light were from his workbench. This thing looked terrible when I got it so I sanded down the top with a belt sander gradually working down to 120 grit. I intentionally left the imperfections as I feel they add character. The bench top was then topped off with 5 coats of Minwax Antique Oil Finish. I cleaned the grease/grime off the metal bench parts, vise and light and left them alone otherwise. I finally mounted the vise and light on it this week. Now it's time to get it dirty again. :bounce:

Any clue who the manufacture is? I have a rolling car with matching drawings.

My bench, made from scraps. I have gathered lots of inspiration from this thread before I built mine.

Nice Bench! how about some closeups of the pegboards?

Thanks, I had to google pegboards  I assume its the toolboards you are talking about..

They are normal metal boards with accesories I can get in almost any hardwarestore around here. There are many other types of accessories that I dont have. I prefer to hang the most used tools on the wall instead of keeping it in drawers. I think it is easier and quicker to access, but I like the looks of clean walls as many of you have. The rolling chest are filled with tools, personal safetygear, power tools, air tools etc and other stuff.

Mavawreck, The drawers were made by Hallowell and are marked on the front. I'm not sure if they made the entire workbench though as the other Hallowell benches I see when I do an internet search look different.

I've got a single matching drawer. Bought it because of the ribs and the patina.
No I don't have a picture of it, so it might just be my imagination. :pimpflash

Very nice, I like the angled wrench holder. I haven't seen those at any of the stores local to me (home depot, menards, lowes, ace)

Just bought a house and still cleaning things up, but finally got the pegboard up with a light and a shelf above that for some storage.

homebrewer as well, so the kegerator is right next to the bench :)

like i said, still cleaning up and moving in, but needed my tools out for various jobs.

kind of funny what a few days on the free section of craigslist brings up. hooked up my trailer and an hour later i had these free cabinets at my house. Just need some cleaning.

addtional good part about this? all of the base cabinets fit PERFECT (well, left about 4-5 inches to spare by the door) across the bottom... and the cabinet to the right holds my radial arm saw perfectly. just need to cut some wood to hold it in place.

Also, my friend found this free WORKING table saw in portland and drove it down to me... needless to say i bought the beer that night.

Here is my workbench/cutting bench/sewing machine bench. Not as long as I'd like, and still need to have an aluminium "ramp" made up for the transition from sewing machine height to workbench height. The bench isn't finished yet either, still need to add the leg and end vices, peg holes, then the actual finish. Aaand I know, the shop could do with a good tidy up, it looks TERRIBLE right now, man I hate seeing it in that state.

Other than the ply used to seperate each section, and at the rear (where I normally stand when working at the bench), the bench is made entirely of hardwood. 2700mm long (8'10") by 2200mm (7'2") wide, the top is 50mm (2") thick standing on 6 100mm (4") by 100mm legs. At the rear I have 400mm (1'4") of overhang from the legs and backing piece so I have mounted 10 bread pans mounted on angle aluminium "slides" for small parts storage on disassembled projects. I find them really handy.

Just finished this lightweight, mobile workbench prototype. Not for pounding on things, but will be handy for laying things out and moving them around when I need space again.

I do remodelling and home maintenance and no matter what I'm doing I have at least a folding 2'x4' table set up for my tool bag or whatever specific project I'm doing.

Yours reminds me of that with wheels. Might have to see if I can do some locking casters or something.

Hey, nice looking work surface there...what are the details on the top construction?

Bunk, that particular bench is a sandwich of 3/4" plywood from an old workbench and 3/4" MDF. The old wood had a nice patina that I wanted to retain.

Other benches are a sandwich of plywood, MDF, and hardboard. You can see one behind (not yet glued and screwed) in my photo above. Detail from another partially finished below. I'm most likely going to add a 3/16 steel top layer on these for heft and durability.

All are going to be 38" tall, which matches my other workbenches and is a good height for me to work at comfortably. In theory I could wheel a couple of these together and get one big work table.

Rebuilt one of my benches from the old shop and installed in the new shop. Removed the old pegboard and millwork top. Replaced the pegboard with 1/8 Aluminum pegboard and replaced the tops with 1/8 #4 finish Stainless. Now I can finally get on with my projects.

SAWEET!. Where'd ya get that aluminum pegboard at?. I've been thinking about doing something like that for my bench but the smaller panels I know of would look ******. Thanks.

And since I've never posted my bench in this thread. I'm thinking about doing an overhead cabinet with the pegboard for her.

Here's a couple of freshly cleaned tops.
I don't know why my pics load sideways
or upside down when I do it from my
phone but it's aggrevating.

We had a few sheets of .125 5052-H32 Aluminum left over from a job we ran years ago. So I wrote a program for one of our CNC Turret Presses and punched the panels out. They are custom made.

I punched a hole pattern around the out edges and welded tabs with Pem nuts on to the tubes making up the bench and screwed the panels to the tabs. The whole process from design to completion took about 6 hours to fabricate and install the 2 panels.

The Bench was built originally back in 2000 for my old shop. The rebuild involve making the new pegboard and new Stainless tops replacing the old plywood/polyurethane tops (I love stainless).

I am converting all my benches from wooden pegboard to Aluminum pegboard. Have 2 more to go.

Very nice bench BTW...

Well that's heart breaking, but very badass you can do that in house. Thanks.

I just spent a week going through all 138 pages, wow is all I can say. There are some pretty talented people on here. I definitely got tons of ideas to build my workbench now that I would have never thought of.
I do have a question though. Where is everyone buying stainless to put on the top of the homemade work benches? I went by a local metal place and they dont sell any stainless.

This bench works great. It very heavy, I'd guess about 500lbs, 1/8 steel plate top over 3/4 plywood and 6x6 legs. A bit overkill but that's the way roll.
The retractable wheels with a scissor jack on each end make it possible to move with ease.
A great addition to my new shop.

SteveM

I've got a couple old RV Leveler jacks. I bet they would work just fine for this... ...hmmmmm...

thanks for the idea.

Here's what I'm working with. I built up the top with plywood after I got the vise to support its 50 lb weight. I put it where the grinder used to be. I also ran an air hose from my compressor in the garage and bolted it up under the bench, so I can plug in the coil hose in the shop.
