For home use, mainly tire rotations, other vehicle maintenance.

Don't want to spend a ton.. but want something quality. Was thinking of scooping the new Dewalt DWMT70773L, but it's new.. and unproven. It's apparently a copy of this MAC AWP050 but the Dewalt doesnt have the Titanium housing.

Any other hidden gems out there?

Best bang for the bucks and specs would be the aircat 1150. Most powerful 1/2" gun at loosening bolts. Unless someone can prove me wrong with another gun.

I have this Napa 6-767 1/2 impact gun. Looks similar to a few other guns. Doesn't get used much anymore.

I got a King Tony Mini 1/2 gun a few months ago, It's got good power for it's small size. I couldn't be happier.

+1. This is the one most everyone wants...for good reason!

A little pricey, but it's money well spent,- IF you can afford and warrant it IMO.

I agree the aircat/nitrocat are the best bang for the buck..........I would not say its the strongest 1/2 out there. I vote 2135 ir for the best at breaking bolts loose. For the op though, the aircat is the best value on he market. Cheap enough for home use, CLOSE in power to all the big dogs, and fairly durable in a pro use setting. A hobby guy would never wear it out if cared for.

I know what the specs say, but 3 guys at work with aircats have all had to borrow the ir to see if it would do what the cat cant........sometimes it does, never have I had a stuck bolt that another gun has taken off that my ir cant. Still, aircats are a heck of a gun for the money.

Have you looked on craigslist? My craigslist seems to **** for tools, but there's always decent impacts like snap-on for around 50 bucks. I have a blue-point and it works awesome for things like swapping wheels, even with my tiny compressor.

As much as I hate to say it that the HF earthquake is a good 1/2" for the money.
I have been using HF impact sockets in my construction business for 25 years and they are like new. The only problem I have with HF is that they skip sizes in all their sets and that bothers me. They don't sell them individually. Sears has been running their 1/2" deep sockets at half price and you can pick them up for $40. They skip on the metric. Kobolt is $59 for the metric set with no skips and it goes up to 27mm I believer. I have all the major brands in my two shops but the Cheap HF ones seem to work just as well and really hold up. They now have a pro line which is even better. I really don't Like HF but their tool boxes and some things you just can not beat.

I've picked up two used ones- an older one for $150 through the Snappy man, and a newer one (which I still use) for $100. Not bad if you can find it. For some reason when I was looking, the Matco MT1869 (IIRC) versions were selling for less than the IR versions, generally. Yeah, doesn't make any sense to me either.

You can never go wrong with an IR even if its used and you plan on taking it apart/cleaning it out and greasing/oiling it. It would last you forever plus a day for home use. With that being said the Dewalt looks pretty nice and would also probably do whatever you need it to and more. With it being new if you go that route please do a full review so the rest of us can see it in action, it looks super nice.

I recently picked up a IR231 used at a pawn shop for $35.00. Just to have a spare, or for parts for mine. When I asked if it worked, the guy said he thought it did. He told me if it didn't I could return it. Thing works like a champ, I'll bet it is every bit of of thirty years old. Like others have said, you can't go wrong with IR.

I have an IR 231 that is at least 20 years old...seen heavy use for half of that.

Every year I mutter to myself that I need to pick up a rebuild kit for it.

Then I squirt a little more oil in it and keep using it.

Looking new, or used? Maybe you have one by now.
Lots of great guns for pretty cheap on Craigslist and ebay.
Earthquake are good guns, at least the older style was, haven't used the newer versions, can't say. Ingersoll 2131( AKA Craftsman 19905), Ingersoll 231, 244, both hard to break, last a long time. Nitrocat( AKA Mac AW480Q and AW612Q), Aircat (aircat's have twin hammers, Nitrocat's have pin style hammers) really strong wrenches, Cornwell CAT4135 ,CAT4150 AKA Napa 6-1122, 2135ti, Any wrench that looks like the ATD2102, and Nesco NP745XLT, (they're sold under many different names), real strong, mine has been tough as nails, and I picked it up for about 15 bucks. Mine was sold by Harbor Freight some years ago under the US General name. It keeps up with the IR 2135ti wrenches, and has really stood up to some hard use.

I think OP did end up buying the Dewalt. I would love to have a review if he did. My lumber store said i could have one at a crazy price if i wanted one.

Might get one as a backup.

Are you saying those are all the same tool? If so you need to pull the 2135Ti out of that list.

.

Not sure what you mean. Yes these are the same tool. Wasn't saying the 2135ti is the same, just all pretty good ,strong wrenches one could consider for the price, is all. The 2135ti is it's own tool, it's also the MT1769, MT1769A, IR-C8000, and AW5500, AW5500M, as I'm sure most people know. They all look a bit different, all were built by IR, all parts inside are 2135, and every part interchanges between any of them.

Yeah, I'd be curious to see what that one is all about. Seems strange that Dewalt has air tools in their line-up.

Another vote for the aircat 1150

Works pretty well. Picks up a bit more power too if you pop out the muffler ;)
