I had a washer and dryer delivered from a big box store last Sunday, and it was actually a third party (in an unmarked truck) that dropped and installed the appliances. When asked, the installers said that all of the appliances go back for scrap. The driver admitted that a known good appliance in good shape *could* be saved by one of the delivery guys if they really wanted.

I don't see anything wrong with them doing whatever they want with the old appliances. I didn't take the time to sell a 15 year old washing machine in questionable shape on craigslist, so if someone else wants it for their home or to make a couple bucks on- who loses? If someone in need of a working appliance for cheap is resold my old stuff, and the delivery guy makes a couple extra dollars I don't mind at all. Its not like they're making thousands of dollars on tired old appliances or swindling people out of cash.

What is scrap value on a washing machine anyhow? A dollar?

Kobalt Metal Overhead Storage KitItem #: 186952 | Model #: 45576PKDLG

Found as low as $26 with a qty of 6 in Rosenberg, TX #1898

Just a heads-up to anyone buying these. The box weighs 68 lbs. I didn't pay much attention while the Lowes employees put them in my truck and when I got home I about S*&^ when I went to pull them out of the truck. I wrongly assumed they were aluminum.

Not a huge deal, but it was definitely a surprise.

By the way, normal price on these were $109. It was on SlickDeals last year.

Yet another reason I like menards. All of the used appliances are in their lumber yard for 6$/ a piece, condition unknown, no warranty implied.

Locally, these are still selling for $129. I hope they come down to the $25-$50 range in my area. I don't see many of the huge markdowns in the Lowes around here very often.

I can tell you that it definitely happens. I'm guilty of doing it myself, used to work at Advance, we had a full nitrous kit that had been on the shelf for years for like $499, of course no one ever bought it.

I happened to be there when an online order came in for it, and it was marked down to $199, needless to say "I couldn't find it"

customer buys it online for 199... and you pull for pick up in store and see the good deal and keep it for yourself, is that correct? after a customer has bought and paid for it?

I never said it was honest, or morally correct. I was probably 18-19 when it happened making $6 an hour, I've grown up, and acknowledged that it was wrong, but it is what it is.

He was refunded his money before he was ever notified to it was available for pickup.

I used to know a Lowe's employee who 'accidentally' on purpose would create a scratch and dent appliance for friends and family. Stuff was damaged all the time with very little accountabilty.

Then he would wait till the appliance manager marked the item down, and call whoever wanted it....they walk out with the appliance they want with just a little ding or scratch.....often at a huge discount.

The overhead storage shelf mentioned isn't on sale in my area, and is still $109. :(

Good news is I hit another Lowes and found a lot of leftover Hilman clearance items in the bolt bins. I'm not sure I need some of this stuff, but at prices like 9 cents for a bag of brass wood screws, I'm going to buy them all up. All told, I think I spent $20 on $300 worth of hardware.

Sorry to hear the overhead storage wasn't on sale in your area. I just ran over and picked my FOUR up from my online order.... At the lowest price ever, AND at the store in my neighborhood- double bonus. I paid $10.53/ea.

They were still on the shelf tagged at $46, with the boxes marked $62.

I can't get over how heavy they are, the poster above was valid in his warning!

Thanks for the heads up on the deal GJ! First time I've found something local at super clearance prices.

Call customer service 1-800-77LOWES

Let them know you did not get a key, usually have it in 3-5 days
Wouldn't count on the store to be able to get one

After contacting "customer care" via email and phone I was given the number for the manufacturer (866 305 4414) who told me they were out of replacement keys and lock sets but he expected more to be delivered in 3-4 weeks - took my address and said he would send one out when they came in.

In the meantime I'm going to try my picking skills also does anyone have a manual they can scan or take a picture of? like I said this thing was half assembled and doesn't look quite right....

Is it a tube type key or a flat key?
If tube type, what is the number on the lock cylinder.....might be able to help

I don't have a copy here for you but this is my recommendation.

I'm sure some pro locksmiths will criticize and they may be right to do so. It's a good book for you considering you're basically just going to be killing time waiting for them to ship you keys. If the circumstances were different another recommendation may be better.

I have determined my lowes *****. None of this stuff is ever on sale even remotely close to the prices you all get. They had a Stanley razor knife on clearance, but it was marked down 32 cents.....

My Lowe's was clearancing out some more stuff. The 20pc screwdriver set is down to $7.89 and they had the 5pc torx set for $2.25. Picked up a couple of each tonight. Both sets are made in the USA. The website shows the 12pc screwdriver set for $4.99 each but my store was out of stock. There were also some individuals starting at $.80 going up to about $6. Here are the links for the sets.

Chinese precision screwdriver set w/ pouch, decent deal

img_0109.jpg

That's a SMOKING deal, it's not like you're going to be prying or really cranking hard on a set of precision screwdrivers. I picked up a set at $7 and ended up using it the very next day on one of my kids toys that got delivered. Wouldn't have been able to get the battery compartment open without it. If I saw them that cheap I probably would have purchased 4 or 5 more.

ETA: I picked up a 40pc 3/8 SAE and Metric socket set w/ ratchet the other day for $16. I needed some 12pt SAE sockets to tear down my motorcycle engine and this was cheaper and just as complete as buying just the sockets I needed so I took a chance. I'm surprisingly impressed with the set and I'm a big fan of their chrome sockets. I'd probably pick them over the Pittsburg Pro chromes for their engravings and the color coded bands. Price wise they're within a few dollars of each other. Not pro quality by any means but for DIY/home use they're fine.

I don't find cheap screwdrivers, precision or standard size, to be desirable. Small stuff strips even easier than the big stuff, having poor tolerances and soft metals ruins everything quite quickly, and precision stuff is way tougher to drill out when you mangle the head. No thanks.

Hope you've got a lot of stuff to tie down.

Nope
As a matter of fact I already have 6 similar to these on my car hauler.

I will take them to our car club meeting and offer them to members at what I paid for them.
I just do it to help out my friends.

Just to let everyone know. I get these deals because I ask for them.

Conversation goes like this.....

ME-Hey boss we have these ratchet straps on the markdown, level 4. What can you do if I buy them all
HIM- 50% off
ME- thanks. I will take them

Fact of the matter is every Tuesday we do a report called a markdown report.

Management does not like to have tons of stuff on clearance rack. It always looks trashy because of people rummaging thru it. So really you could say I am actually doing the store a service.:D

Seriously, if you find stuff on clearance rack.....ask a manager(Usually Asst Store Manager or ASM) for a better deal.
As a matter of fact, if you offer to take EVERYTHING on the rack for a price $**.** that is a way to go also

EXAMPLE
(And this is not usually employees)

CUSTOMER-Mr Manager, What price would you give me if I buy everything on this rack today.
ASM-$200
CUSTOMER-how about $100
ASM-How about $150
CUSTOMER: sold

And for the guys here who shop at my store.....sorry, nothing left to see

None of my lowes will deal at all. Even displays full price. I got 10% off one time on the dewalt bandsaw deal.

As for the hillman clearance, items are. 74 from. 79. Only a few pennies difference. Is that even worth the trouble?

Why post a hot deal if you hoarded them all?

What???? I for one say please keep posting the deals and SKUs! did you haters know that there was more than one Lowes location?

mostly kidding... but maybe a simple 'thanks' would do?

I have found some managers are willing to deal and some aren't - you just have to ask.

Fred is pointing out what item # you can search for to see if it's on clearance and in stock at your store. In case you hadn't noticed, he is also basically telling you how the system works. smart people don't complain when they learn the rules of the system. they use that knowledge to benefit more within those rules.

And if you had the opportunity to get it for cheaper you would too, and be a little proud about it anyway. Besides anybody 'could' get that same deal at another store or on his day off. Kind of makes up for having to deal with the stupids that clog up the aisles at Lowe's (customers and employees both).
