Yea love to use that to hang a door jam? But a large number of installers use standard levels for installs of cabinets, doors, ect ect ect. Lasers have there place and are more accurate but not always practical. I just got a 8 foot Bostitch level for 42 bucks ought the door very happy now I have 1 foot 2 foot 4 foot 6 foot and now an 8 foot.

I'm old and have a tough time reading the faint laser marked sizes on these sockets, anyone stamp them anymore? Pretty short on the 1/2 sockets. Got 134 "real tools" and the rest allen wrenches, hex heads, and 20 stamped wrenches. The box is not bad, read a lot of complaints about the plastic Craftsman boxes.

Looking for a second set, someone wrote these are better than Craftsman?

Better BF deal out there?

pre-black friday deals are out. the 227 piece tool set looks decent for $99...

I like the ratchets a lot better, and the chrome finish seems nicer. I'm not sure about value though, my mechanics craftsman set I got many years ago came with more sockets and wrenches.

The ratchets are way better than craftsman.

Found a local Lowes that had all the Bostitch levels, but just couldn't justify buying another. I have a 4' Swanson I picked up last year and a cheapo 2' I bought a while back. I did pick up the torpedo level for $10. Maybe if they make it to 75% off I'll bite.

Picked up a Fluke punch down tool today for $19 was originally $67. The ce fluke tools they had were real cheap.

What is the punch down tool used for? Isn't it used for the pinch type terminals for phone lines? Seems like a specialty tool to me.

Yeah. Punches down phone or cat5 and can cut the ends all nice and neat in one punch (depending on tip)

id pick craftsman sockets over kobalt. maybe even china ones. ive seen more than a few kobalt sockets at a pawn shop or at a sale that had no size on it whatsoever. im sure if it was a car box and not used on a daily basis, or hard weekend warrior work they would be fine, but i like them stamped.

for the money its not bad. the ratchets are fine tooth compared to craftsman, but ill pass on the sockets.

Right. Basically pushing the wires into their grooves to make contact in the terminator. Some people use one all day, some people in the same industry might never use one.

I own two. One has seen a fair amount of use but it was a few years ago, but both will likely see use again soon.

Lowes has this Kobalt Set for sale for $99. You can add something for a dollar and use the $20 off $100 code below to bring it to $80

Item: 86756

Promo Code: 47000RRRRR3347R (you have to replace the "R" letter with a random number, so 470007546433475 would be an example of a code that might work.)

Kobalt sockets (the taiwanese ones at least) are more stout than the low end craftsman usa though. Some are the "laser etched" deal but not all. When they're racked (on a rail or holder) it doesn't really matter if the number wears off because they're referential. I do bag work but would never work off rail unless it's not a whole lot of sizes.

Also...can't buy craftsman sets for anywhere near the price of the clearance kobalt sets (the "gimmick" sets). Dirt cheap and awesome.

I thought this was a great deal. I really like the case and it's removable trays. I've been looking for a set to put in my trailers. The quality was better than expected. The only thing I didn't like was the hard to read sizes.

Gee, I'm starting a massive remodel next year. Plan on running Ethernet ( I think thats what it called ) cables on the house. Maybe it would come in handy. Do you know the item # or SKU for that item?

Punch-down tools are old-school. If you only install new parts, rather than work with old installations, you can often get by without one. Most modern devices have 'tool-less termination' -- the insulation caps serve as the punch-down tool.

A good punch-down tool has a spring-trip mechanism. You push down on the handle, compressing the spring, until the catch releases. It then puts the dialed-in energy into punching down the connection.

A typical blade is double-ended, with one end having a blade on one side that trims off the excess wire at exactly the length needed to have a secure connection without shorting to the next row. The end without a blade allows running a continuous wire to bridge several contact points.

Probably goes with out saying the Old kobolt, that was made by williams were awesome.
I have a set of there 3/8" impact sockets, and there great! (Old kobolt, that was made by williams )
We had a few kobolt ratchets at work, pretty light use really, and one or two of there ratcheting wrenches, (this was a few years ago now, 2 0r 3) but they broke right away.
We had to warranty the ratchets a few times if I recall.
Could have been a bad batch too.
The direction lever is opposite most other ratchets too, took some getting used to.

EDIT

It is item number 83447. The fluke is the only one to really bother with. I threw my Klein one in the garbage. This one also comes with both blades to do terminated and pass through wiring.

You can do pre term stuff but it's not always as easy actually. Depends on where and how u have to fish it. My whole house is done in cat 6a with Ortronics connectors. All Enterprise data center stuff and all punched down by hand. I also used this tool to telephone distrobution through 66 blocks.

I'm a dumb ***, I must have been using 47000RRRRR3347 and just changing the r on the end, instead of like
"47000754643347R" (0 through 9) I copied and pasted the wrong thing.:dunno:
No wonder, .........LOL
I got it to work thanks,

I guess I'm all screwed up more-so, I was having trouble getting my card to work, even customer service couldn't get it to go through,well..........here I had the expiration date wrong .:dunno:
Anyways, got it right this time, but the cool thing was, I wanted to ship the tool set to someone as a Christmas gift, but I actually have a use for the eye bolt I showed as a filler, so for the heck of it, I selected to ship the tools to the gift recipient, and the eye bolt to me, and it allowed it.
Thanks for the discount code.

$5.97 each down from $19.99. I have the Gear Wrench version, love these little kits for my motorcycle tool rolls. These are made in Taiwan, probably in the Gear wrench factory. Their function is very smooth.

They are still at the new lower price here of 9.** here but if its just a rebadged gearwrench kit its still a decent deal...

the GW kit is 25 at sears in a red case, looks to be the same kit?

Not the same as gearwrench, I have them both. Very similar quality though. The kobalt is a smaller wrench/ratchet with a tiny slide lever, wich is difficult to change direction accidentally. Smaller case too, the kobalt is at home and gets a lot of use on furniture and such. Gearwrench is at work where it gets abused. Comes in handy in tight spots, and I cut down the hex portion of a #2 Phillips bit and put it in there backwards, so the bit comes out the hole in the finger turn wheel, gets in about a 1/2" space that way.

thanks, I figured since a lot of the old koblat was rebadged / repackaged gw it might be worth asking since I haven't had my hands on either yet.

Don't feel bad. I was entering your code not his. Once I figured that out it went right through. I added one of the mini ratchet kits for the filler. I had already paid $99 for it. I'll be returning one if no one at work wants it.
