Found another store for you guys. Schererville, IN (store #1601) has them for $2.60. It shows they only have one left but nearby stores are showing 5 in stock. Try to price match at one of the other stores if needed. :rocker:

Bought a 10" Knipex Alligator wrench (pliers) yesterday at a Lowe's where I have found zero of these close-outs everyone has found. $8 marked down from $25....Amazon lists as $20, so I finally found a deal. That was the only mark-down I saw in tools.

Just bought a Fluke 113 true rms multimeter for the steep price of 20.57. They were all out of stock in the stores near me in Cleveland. So I was in Pittsburgh Pa. I stopped at the South hills area store. They have about 9 in stock. The cashier thought I somehow manipulated the bar code. I told her go scan any of them. A manager came over and confirmed this was not a mistake and that was the price. There was still a tag on it for 119.

That would piss me off, being accused of something I didn't do.

I am out of town but i didn't make it to that store before I left and I just got a $50 gift card for my birthday for Lowes! I need a new Fluke meter for my electrical box so it would be a perfect gift!

Scratch that, just got a call saying they are out of stock on them and would be refunding my order. Damn!
Keep checking your local stores & order them when they do show up. I have had more orders cancelled than go through, but it's well worth the effort. I scored some more 8" pliers & 10" Alligators today. The prices & stock seem to change daily. From what I have gathered, if five are listed in stock, they probably don't have them. Anything less & they usually do.

There were at least 7 more there when I left. They are hanging in the electrical tool area by themselves NOT with the rest of the tools. Not marked $20 either. Most are marked $115 or more. They were hanging on the section divider between the south wire stuff and the electrical tape.

I desperately want a pair of the Knipex bolt cutters but can't bring myself to pay $40.00 for them when I saw them listed on Lowe's website at 1 store for $2.87. I called the store which is in a different state and had them check to see if they had them, the computer said they had 3 pr but when the guy on the phone physically checked he said they weren't there. Bummer!

Well after shopping at a Lowes in central IL (while traveling for work), I am up to 15 pairs of the knipex 8" pliers. Most of them were under $3, a few I paid about $10 for.

I may not be able to use 15 in my life, but QUALITY NEVER GOES OUT OF STYLE and as a previous poster said, they make great gifts.

I was searching around where i have family and it shows the price online if you change your area.. Try on of the above mentioned areas on their website..
Heading to try price match tomorrow, or heading 20 miles north where it shows them in...

Shep, got a part number on the zip ties? I'm actually running low on these. Were they marked down on the shelf or just rang up at the register?

Sorry man, I just stumbled on this.

Knipex is gone from Lowes on Long Island. checked this evening

What was odd at my local store is that they had pulled down all of the Knipex stuff a few weeks ago when they did the reset. I go in yesterday, take a look again, and there are 4 sets of the 8" pliers on the wall, at $2.60 a pop.

I can only guess that they got stuck somewhere in the back, they did an inventory and put them back out to get rid of them. Never hurts to check again if you're in there for something else.

It pays to walk by the rack if you are in the store , I have found stuff that was not there the day before .

and after purchase if you find them cheaper they will do a price match adjustment .

I checked to my local Lowes for any left over Knipex stuff and came up empty. Even the stores that showed in Stock Knipex/Fluke on the Lowes website had no Knipex or Fluke, everything was the new Southwire brand. I looked around and couldn't find what the website showed in Stock, so you may want to call before heading out even if it shows in stock on the website.

Nothing but the "new" Southwire Chinese **** here.

Does Lowes really think that the people who were buying Knipex quality are going to accept Chinese excrement in it's place? I'm disheartened by the Southwire sell out and I'm expecting that Lowes is going to see a wall of **** covered in dust. I mean, just who do they think is going to buy this ****?

I Got asked a few times by the friendly people in the tool department if I needed any help. I replied saying that im looking for the last of the US/German made stuff. I found some of the aforementioned deals within this thread.. brought to the cashier to find out the price was different from the shelf on a couple items. The cashier called the manager over to override and noticed all the stuff and made a comment about the deals. I said its a shame because once all the good stuff is gone I more than likely wont be coming back to pay for the same stuff I could get at Harbor for less. On the last trip the new display was up and got to see the **** they replaced it with. Even the blister packaging looks cheap! I hope to god that depot doesn't pull the US made Kleins and other hand tools as they will now be seeing me a bit more.

I needed to pick up a couple of things the other day so I ran through the electrical department and noticed that they had a second pair of the $2.60 Knipex pliers on the shelf and picked them up in addition to the pair I bought online. I'm not seeing them available in any of the local stores for the deeply discounted prices but they're more than happy to sell from a warehouse for full price. Is Knipex going to be online / special order only for Lowe's with Southwire being the in-store brand?

+1

Noticed the Southwire display was completely stocked - didn't look like they had sold a thing from it. Picked up a screw driver that looked like a Chiwanese knock off of a Klein. I don't mind paying premium prices for premium tools but repackaged imports from a company of unknown tool-making reputation and warranty backing aren't going to cut it. I'm not really a fan of buying hand tools online but if that's what local retailers leave as my only option then so be it. Anybody have a guess what Lowe's plan B is when the Southwire experiment fails miserably for them?

I've been to about 6 stores over the past couple month looking at some of this stuff. As has been posted, it does keep showing up. Finally found a fluke multimeter just this morning. I'd pop for a welder but they are either out of the box and not discounted enough for my cheapness.

Did you wipe them out? If not, what stores were they?

The southwire tools will probably be pretty nice.... Southwire is probably the largest electrical wiring company in the US. They supply roughly 1/3 of all the wire currently used in the US IIRC. My guess is they wouldn't try to put out **** pliers at Knipex prices.

Whether they are as good as Knipex, who knows, but they will probably be fairly nice.

Even the lettering on the Southwire tools looks shoddy.

Don't know about you, but I'm not about to pay USA or German made prices for chinese knock-offs.
