I've been thinking about getting one or two of he taller single bay rollers. Can someone post up the insides of the drawers on the current lista chests? I'd like to see how many holes are punched into them.

bmwpower, it was your set up that triggered the kitchen design we will have. So thank you,

Also, how does the adjustment for work on yours for the floor? Screws, or shims? NM..read your thread again...shims. And damn, what a cool shop! Great attention to detail.

Thanks man!

As soon as I have time, now I need to go through another 15 page thread! :eyecrazy:

That was a long time ago. Do you have any recent pics? I'm interested to see how it looks after 7 1/2 years of use.

PS, it would be nice to see a little mess too!

Tops are a little scratched up, added a vice, quite a bit messy lately. Geez, can't believe it's been that long...

Holy ****! That's like 40 grand worth of cabs and stainless!

Not even close. But I hear the prices have gone up quite a bit.

I think the hardest part on purchasing a set of Lista cabinets is choosing the size (footprint & height).

My question, what size are these cabinets pictured above? I'm guessing EW900 series (34.25" wide x 28.5" deep x 39.375" high ).

And to make many people VERY unhappy I feel I must share my tale of woe...

At the company I previously worked for from almost the first day I began working there, I had admired and kept my eyes on a Lista-esque workbench (I couldnt find a label on the sides I could see, but it looked like all of these pictures...)

Unfortunately, our site was chosen to be downsized. After the downsizing was announced, the engineers began the process to choose what to keep or not, I requested and was assured that I could have that bench if they didn't keep it. I knew that I wouldn't get the flat file cabinets that they had, I was about the 10th person in line for them.

Weeks of waiting for a decision turned to months. I watched as thousands of dollars of New and/or used components, tools, computers, office equipment, etc. was simply trashed. I ended up with a LOT, and probably assured my induction to the hoarder hall of fame but I only WANTED one thing if it wasn't going to be kept. I wanted that workbench.

Despite repeatedly being assured that I could have it if they didn't keep it, their Manager decided that the ONE day I wasn't there was its last day. It HAD to be gone no matter what and putting it in my office was NOT an option. Despite being assured it was mine, IT HAD TO GO! The next day I came in, saw the bench was gone and went to find out what happened to the Bench. I almost cried when I was told that they chucked it into a dumpster...

Admittedly, I had no clue how I would have managed to cram it into my 2 door coupe but I was determined to save that bench and would have sacrificed the sunroof glass and paint on the roof to drive it the 65 miles home. Instead, some scrap hauler made a killing.

Lista Lust.jpgDriving down the highway the other day I spot a 60" cab in the back of some dudes truck. Flag him down and convince him to sell it to me. It wasn't hard as he just bought it 10 minutes prior and already had buyers remorse. He even delivered it. $200. 60" x 60" x 30" Vidmar

LORDDiESEL,

We designed and installed that LISTA setup for a gentleman in Massachusetts. We actually did two sections in the shop; the one in beige is for lady of the house who trains and grooms her dogs in this area. The black setup is for the man of the house where he maintains his Porsche and other mechanical toys. Two very different purposes but all looking very similar in a nice Lista way.

Guys, over the last few months, I've been finding myself thinking about a Lista setup over the traditional "tech" tool chest. I've saved a few pics of my favorite setups for reference for my build. A couple of these shots are from members here, and they are a fantastic setups IMO. If the members have a problem with the pics i've used of theirs, shoot me a PM.

^I love this one with the roller cab! IMO, this is the best of both worlds. It can stay and be used as part of the stationary system, and then be taken to the bay you're working in.

My search for Cabinets starts today.

Here is my Nu-Era box I put together. You can see my old Sams Club stainless box in the back. It just did not hold enough "stuff".

I made a frame from 2"x2"x 1/4" angle. Put six Colson casters on it as well as two locking feet to keep it from rolling. It is not finished in these pictures but it also has a pull handle on one side as well as a 1/4" aluminum plate that covers the entire top.

The box is just over 90" wide, 28" deep, and about 66" tall on the frame and casters. I am 6'4" and the box is perfect for my height. I also use it to store materials and consumables. I have one drawer setup to charge all of my cordless tools. The box has a male outlet box mounted to the back and I plug it in with an extension cord. It works really well in my opinion.

The pictures don't show the handles or any of the finishing touches. If you want to see some finished pictures let me know and I would be happy to post.

I thought I would post a few more pics of LISTA workspaces. We are seeing all of the dealerships that are either doing renovations or new buildings going to integrated workstations for their technicians. The manufactures are basically mandating this new approach.

Car dealerships have really notched up their service operations to current state-of-the-art in everything they do. Most of these new generation Lista workstations have integrated computer systems with direct factory networking and diagnostics, lift pumps inside, tool storage, trash storage, cart garages, and lot of other tech centric features.

For the most part, the manufacturers, dealerships, and customers no longer want an old style shop with random toolboxes, benches, trash cans, etc. With labor rates well above $100 these days the customers want, and rightfully deserve, a professional shop in every aspect including how it looks.

Typically between $8-10K per workstation. An integrated workspace like these have hundreds upon hundreds of different configuration options so the cost can very quite a bit from one to another.

The attached pictures are of my primary workspace in my own shop.

Being a machinist and in the aircraft aerospace industry for nearly 30 years I've had a lust for Lista's for decades. But those are for deep walleted people who can buy new. Used ones can be gotten for cheap especially surplused. My company throws out perfectly good older ones ALL the time. And we can't get our hands on any of them. Pisses me off to no end. Including perfectly good machine equipment as well. Mills, lathes, sheet metal equipment, you name it. Horrible to see. My company recently bought hundreds of new cabinets from Lista. Seem cheaper then used to be.

That's definitely the most torturing thing to happen in life... :(
I had few similar experience as well, watching a Snap-On top + middle chest + roll cab been trashed yet nothing I could do. They are no where near new though, but still can be pretty decent after some restoration

We just designed and installed this LISTA gear in a home shop for a race fanatics. This is additional storage and work spaces to an existing LISTA bench and toolbox area. The big lower cabinets have roll out trays while the upper have adjustable shelves. Lots and lot of storage for supplies and spare parts.

Nice. I have the need for some shelved cabinets like that to hold power tools. How deep? Got any more details on that cab?

BMWPOWER. The cabinets are 28-1/2" deep with 24" deep shelves. They are 56-1/2" wide giving a 52" wide tray. Each shelf can hold 440 lbs. and they roll out like butter. In one of my roll out cabinets it is loaded with car parts for my restoration projects and I have the one in the office loaded with catalogs we use for mailings. Thy are also available in 22-1/2" depth. This link will show you all of the different Lista footprints and heights available: http://www.motorheadextraordinaire.com/content/7-lista-cabinet-dimensions.

Let me know what other information you would like.

Regards,
Joe

Mgnu,

Don't you just love those roll out trays. Imagine trying to get a heavy box of ammo from the back side of a conventional shelf. The roll out trays are so much better than regular shelves for easy access. I store my ammo in Lista drawers and like the trays, the drawers will also hold 440 lbs.

I'm really starting to like this two-bay roller..... It's pretty much Epiq size with it's extra height.
