Okay finally, the house/property update I've been teasing - We repainted!

Well, we didn't, but we hired a crew to do it anyways. They replaced some bad siding and painted/stained everything. It's definitely a big difference and we're really excited about it!

Here's a Before/After comparison:
HouseBeforeAfterPaint.JPG

It's not a super fair comparison because it's such a dreary time of year, lacking the contrast and beauty of basically any other time of year. Dormant, brown grass and naked trees don't exactly provide an attractive backdrop. Another difficulty is capturing the new color of the house. Depending on the photo and lighting, it will look gray or blue or sometimes just plain black. It's really a dark teal color (Sherwin Williams Cascades) and you almost have to see it in person to get the true color. We had the soffits, fascia, window/doors (and their trim) painted black which is such a massive improvement.

We feel we accomplished our goal of creating more of a forest cabin vibe and we love the dramatic, dark look without being trendy or too modern. I'll admit, I was ashamed of the condition of the exterior of our property as we had gone too long without doing proper exterior maintenance work, but now I'm quite proud of how our place presents!

Another comparison. You can see especially on the front of the shop just how badly the old paint had faded. The difference the black doors and windows made can't be understated! You can see that we had the chimney resided too. The shakes were in bad shape and there were many that had fallen off over the years.

That looks fantastic, yall should be proud of that update/upgrade!!
Thank you! It feels good man. Excited to see how it looks surrounded by white this winter and especially when things green up next spring.
That looks awesome. Great choices and looks like the crew did a good job 👍
Thank you very much! I would consider it a bit unconventional, but I like to be unique. The folks working at Sherwin Williams hadn't heard of anyone else in my area using Cascades for exterior paint.

As for the workmanship of the crew...it's honestly not very good at all. It looks better than it did, and it looks quite good from a distance, but they had almost no attention to details. Long story short, we didn't have to come out of pocket for any of this work and it was done quite inexpensively, so I'd say we got what we paid for. The most disappointing part is the horrendous install of our new storm door on the rear entrance. They damaged the door during install and threw away some parts such as the plastic trim pieces and even one of the door closers/gas cylinders! It's supposed to have two cylinders and they just threw one away, and the one that they did put on they installed upside down. They installed the door handle upside down as well and scratched the outside of the door when their drill slipped while drilling the holes for the handle. Pretty much all of the fasters have partially stripped heads, I could go on. They took over eight hours to install that door between two days and it's just laughable how terrible the install went.

Unfortunately, I know exactly what you mean. I went with the more expensive, well known/reputable company and must have gotten the C-team assigned to my house. It was such a slap-dash job that I probably would have been better off hiring a budget company like College Pro painters. The quality of work would have been the same, but at half the cost.

Everything looks nicely tied in together now. Sorry to hear on the install...it seems like competent trades labour is in very short supply these days :-(

Well, I fortunately did not have high expectations for the quality of work because I knew it was being done quite inexpensively, so I didn't have that level of disappointment that you did.

Well, Austin, the pics look great and I love the color choice. Bummer about the workmanship.
Thanks Mark! We sure are happy with the overall look now and it will be much easier to keep up on exterior maintenance and touch ups now.

That turned out awesome Austin. Very nice improvement to the place.
Thank you Mike! It still doesn't hold a candle to your immaculate property, but an improvement indeed.

Thank you! Very short supply indeed. It hits me hard because my approach as a business owner and craftsman is the polar opposite. I do what I do because I love it and I do it to the best of my abilities every time, no exceptions. I really can't relate to the man who just works a job to collect a paycheck and couldn't care less about the work they're performing, so long as they keep their job. I could rant about that topic for hours.

There is a bit of a silver lining to wrap up the conversation on the quality of work issue though. This morning before he collected payment, I took the business owner around the place and pointed out some of the larger issues (especially the door install and missing components) and he agreed to take $500 off of the bill. I'll just go buy a new door (and probably trim too) and install it myself. Not worth the hassle of having them attempt it again.

Love your set up and your land. I am a small shop guy and always looking at ways to make things work in a tight area.
Thank you! We sure do love it here. Some days it's pretty hectic with a growing family in a relatively small house, but we are very grateful for what we have. I think all of us love a massive, dream shop style setup, but small spaces are always more special to me as they require more creativity and efficiency. My shop doesn't get used all that often anymore, but it sure makes me happy every time I do go out there.

It's actually a Halibrand that also utilizes some Porsche components? That's what I've read anyway in my research.

My model is a pretty loose interpretation, that's all that is necessary.

My mistake, the Halibrand and the Jag have a similar cover based on my decaying memory

Love the model! Makes me want to build the 33/34 car my dad always wanted.

It's been a minute since I've posted any updates here, and for good reason! I've been quite busy with a number of things. In the last week there have been a couple of noteworthy acquisitions though.

We welcomed our daughter into the world! She's now one week old, and both her and her mother are doing fantastic. Surely we will never have another Thanksgiving quite as special as this one was, we are extremely blessed and grateful for our family of six!

I also got another 3D printer, but who cares about that...

Congrats on the new wiggly addition!
Thank you very much! She's been an amazing baby so far, so content and peaceful.

Congratulations on the new addition!
I'll let you guess which one I mean.😂
Glad both baby and mom are doing well.

Thank you!

Congrats on the new addition! +1 on glad they are both doing well!

6 at our house meant 3 rows in our SUV's :ROFLMAO:
We're ahead of the curve then, we had our third row machine before our third child was born:

Don't tell your wife, but we drove by one just the other day and my wife commented (as she always does when she sees the new Wagoneers) how ugly she thinks they are...

Congrats!
Thank you!

Congratulations! Careful with those little girls, they'll wrap you right around their cute little fingers.
Thank you! Well to be honest it's not hard to fall in love with how mild mannered and cute my daughters are all the time in comparison to the eternal chaos that are my sons!

Congrats on printing a new member of the family and the new printer ;)

Now get back to diaper changing

Also excited to see more on that model....the IG posts of the tiny shiny bits are droolworthy
Thanks a lot man! Our house has been a dirty diaper factory for over five years now, we're pretty good at it.

I probably won't be posting any more details on the model until after Christmas, sorry!

Congratulations on the new addition, as a father of 3 daughters there is nothing like it! Enjoy it all, it goes fast.
Thank you! We were blessed with an even split, our oldest two are boys and the younger two are girls.

That's amazing, Austin! Huge congrats on the baby girl! Man, I can't imagine 4 kids, some days I find myself treading water with just the 2! :ROFLMAO: The first year/ newborn phase can be exhausting, but such a special time. But you must be a pro at it.

The house is looking good, too.

Do you really need two Bambu's?? Maybe you should send one to me 😜
