Went to menards tonight......

Well, my menards really cleaned out gearwrench and some of the masterforce sections. Ratcheting gearwrench sets are about all that is left of that brand and the masterforce section has been greatly reduced too. Replacement brand for those two is crescent ...... selection isn't too bad.....seems to be a mix of China and Taiwan though. Didn't know crescent was apex brand. Ratchet heads were thick as hell though. Everything else seemed middle of road for quality.

Pretty soon truck brands will all that's left for quality tools it seems.

My Menards still has zero crescent. Weird.

In the plier aisle, all of the single Channellock items are gone. Huuuuge empty hole now. Checked all over, including in the clearance area for them...no dice. The only Channellocks around are a couple of multi-piece sets.

Mine also has just the same crescent they had before the fire sale of GW... in fact, the GW they still have is now back to retail price

Mono, that is interesting. My store(s) have full and well stocked Channellock sections. No Crescent yet at all though. Could each store have some authority in what it decides to stock and carry? - Paul

No, I've asked about that in the past. Menard's breaks the country up into regions. Each region's stores carry the same items and prices items the same.

So every store in central IL stocks the same stuff and charges the same prices, but every store around Chicago has some different stuff from central IL and charges a different price.

I checked Menards.com. It says all of the Channellock stuff is still in stock. Maybe they just pulled it to move it to a different area in the tool department. :dunno:

YMMV but the Hansen socket organizers at my Menards in IL today were 1/2 off - 5.99 for the 3.8 and 6.99 for the 1/2".

just came back from menards.
they reorganized the main tool board, spkt it up between masterforce, gearwrench, crescent.
gearwrench is wrenches.
masterforce and crescent, are basically the same offerings, sockets, ratchets, wrenches, drivers.
interesting, that they carry 2 lines from the same manufacturer - apex.
except the masterforce is USA, crescent, the items i looked at, taiwan.
i bought a USA combo wrench set, at abouts $8 more for the set.
they do put a nice chrome finish on the crescent
and, that pegboard is jammed solid. hard to examine some items.
they also had that performax ****, and some newly stocked china drivers.

They had the new crescent tools at my local store too. I was surprised to see they had combination wrenches up to 2". They were all $30 or less which I didn't think was too bad for a wrench that size

I wish some heavy equipment mechanic would go ahead and try the big wrenches out. I'm looking to buy a few up to 2" but I don't want to be the ginnie pig.

I know what you mean. But I think when you get up into those sizes it would be hard to break one
