The masterforce page has gotten a rework too.

http://www.menards.com/main/masterforce/c-13923.htm

As much as I'd like to believe that Menards is going to pick up a premium USA made brand, I just don't think it is going to happen. Probably just time to renew Masterforce.

I think a revamp of the Masterforce line would be the best bet. Their offerings up to this point have been fairly bland. I can't be the only one who thought that, as the packaging was always dusty in the hand tool area.

No point bringing in a different USA brand unless they plan to discontinue the Masterforce stuff. I could see something like Tekton filling the shelves...

I hope SK, but expect far less. It would make the transition from Craftsman much easier.

As awesome as SK would be, i think Super Sport has it right and them bringing Tekton in. they seem to be coming in a few stores in my area, Meijer and family farm and home are a couple.

The MasterForce deals were only on a few things - not likely Menards will get rid of MF in any way. They may just bring in some different particular tools for some they closed out. GW also isn't totally clearanced out here, just partially. In fact, for some lines, only a couple odd wrenches were on clearance for singles. Would like to see SK offered or some of the new US made Tekton, like the Wright rebadged pliers. Craftsman would be interesting but I think less likely.

I found it interesting - recently I was needing a shovel and found from Sears the nice older Craftsman shovels are now China COO, no longer US made. However, I was in Menards and saw they have MasterForce premium shovels that look almost *the same* as the older US Craftsman ones, with a proud USA on them and most likely made by the former US supplier to Craftsman. I'm switching over to MF Menards for most US made things they offer when I need them going forward. Wish Sears would get back to US COO on many of their items but they are heading the other way on most things.

Stopped in on Monday night...looked like the place had been looted lol. Ripped open packages, random wrenches lying everywhere, labels written on by hand. What a mess. Nothing left worth grabbing.

Early bird gets the worm, I guess.

If anyone had an extra set of the GW Metric non-racheting long X beam, I'd like to buy one set of those. My store didn't have any of those. I might also like to buy an SAE or Metric Quadbox racheting set if anyone had those too extra. I think I'm mostly covered now after recent swap deals on the other stuff I could still use. Thx - Paul

Haven't kept up and figured it was mentioned already, but Crescent is the replacement. At least at my store it is.

I was at the Danville IL store a couple of hours ago and it still has quite a bit. It is also marked. I do not live near there.

Looked like wrenches were all China. Cheapest were 1.99. The 1 1/4 was 11.49.

The sockets and ratchets were Taiwan. Descent selection of ratchets, comfort grips, flex heads, stubbies, 3/8" in 1/4" body.

Impact sockets were CR-V.

Also saw a couple smaller pairs of knipex Cobras.

I need to go down to that Menard's I was at last night and slap whichever manager was telling his workers that they were getting a "premium" brand.

As for the Cobras, Menard's has had them for a while. There's a little Knipex section right below the Channellocks in all three stores around here.

I see they have Crescent EVERYTHING there. Are there any Masterforce ratchets/sockets/wrenches left at that store? edit: never mind. I see them all the way to the left in the first pic.

I imagine the Taiwan ratchets will have the same 72t mechanism as every other 72t Taiwan ratchet in retailers today.

Wow, didn't see Crescent coming. Seems like overkill to have Masterforce, Gearwrench, Crescent and Tool Shop/Performax for choices. I realize the product mix is not the exact same, but I see wrench sets from all 4 of them.

And Apex owns GW and Crescent as well as making MF.

What's really confusing me is that the Performax ratchets were already a Taiwan option. I'm going to a Menard's tonight. Hopefully they have the Crescent stuff out so I can see whether they're just Performax in fancier packaging.

The ratchets were 72t. I don't know a whole lot about ratchets (besides those Armstrong locking flexes are amazing, thanks GJ) so I can't comment on the performance option. My guess, crescent as a name hits home with a lot more folks as being a better tool. Maybe eventually crescent ratcheting wrenches will completely eliminate gw?

Ok, went by three different Menards today to check out the Crescent line...but none of them have it yet. Blah.

I did fill a shopping bag with Masterforce and Allen Double open end wrenches, though. That was pretty much all that was left.

I'm gonna take a look tonight at the new crescent stuff. At my Farm and Fleet store, Dewalt has a really large selection of chinese made hand tools now.

Hey guys, I have ended up with 1 extra set of the 6 piece metric GW double box racheting after all after the trades I've been doing here. I don't want to sell this really at cost but would trade for other stuff if anyone wanted to. I could still use the non-ratcheting metric x-beam wrench sets that some got in the deals. I got an SAE one of those, but not the metric. If you wanted to trade other stuff you had not from the Menards deals but from other deals for the 6 piece metric double box racheting, I might be interested - just pm me your thoughts. Looking to trade for roughly equal value or some cash to make up a difference. Thx- Paul

Menards in Goshen IN had 6 sets of the double ratchet box end in metric left. Price was tagged at 59.99, rang up for 11 even. Just a heads up. :)

Those crowsfeet sets are very nice. Happy to make a nice trade with Tad for a set in exchange for the metric double racheting set! Also traded another set for a 56 piece GW racheting screwdriver set from Sears Closeout! Don't have any of those near me, so that was a great trade too! Love all these Menard's deals. - Paul

This was the deal that has kept on giving! I was still looking for a 12 piece metric non ratcheting GW set. Getting some stuff with this week's 11% off sale, I just had to look at the GW area one more time. Down on the very bottom, under the racheting sets, there was ONE of those exact sets left! Couldn't believe it! $16 later and it went home with me. Be sure to scour the areas in your store as something on clearance might still show up. This one was NOT there earlier as I had looked well. It must have come from somewhere else in the store and eventually was found and stuck back in this area. It really is odd how Menards put certain sets or certain wrenches on clearance, but not others right next to them. - Paul

Paul,
You can check the inventory online my selecting your store and search for gearwrench. Find the item you want and on the right side it shows if it's in inventory or not at your local store.

yes, I know that! Did that! Did not show up! Actual store inventory is often off a bit. Surprised and happy I found this one left! There may be others out there too! - Paul

hmmm.... maybe I should make another Menards run! LOL Seems like all that was left was a bunch of single wrenches in my area. No sets of anything or ratcheting screw driver sets. I bought the last one.

Unfortunately it appears Menards has dropped the Stabila-made level line, only 24" left for $29.99 plus rebate at my closest store. There are a bunch of boring replacements in their spots, so I am assuming the Stabila stuff is no more.

Ishiboo, were these branded Masterforce and made in germany? It looks like the FDL store has 6 on clearance for the 29.99 plus the 11% rebate if you're looking for some.

Yes. They were the previous generation Stabila levels... really nice for the money. Most of the stores have the 24" ones, if you see any 48" or 96" let me know :)

I checked out the local store tonight since they show inventory online. A couple more of the SAE X-beam sets showed up there. I actually wanted to grab a couple of the individual wrenches they had left but they moved everything to some other place. They were in the process of putting up the Crescent stuff and I didn't have time to chase an employee around the store. I checked the clearance and there was nothing there either.
