I went to my local Menards yesterday after work. Picked up a bunch of Masterforce and a couple gearwrench. I might go back tonight to see if I missed any. I loved paying no more than $2.20 per tool.

Some of these will be nice gifts. The 20pc socket set for $7.80 is a great deal although I don't care for ratchet that much, but its 20 pieces packed tightly into a small case.

Heres my haul,

3x 39pc ratcheting set
1x 20 pc stubby wrench set
1x 10pc metric stubby wrench set
1x 6pc metric ratcheting wrench set

they had a few singles left and some 10pc SAE sets left as well.

Do you have a price and # on the 6 PC ratchet set?

So, do you think all the other single piece's ( flex head and straight ratcheting wrenches) will go on closeout too. And the other sets they have?

No, my guess is no.

If they were going to clearance everything, they would have done it at the same time. I suspect they're reorganizing or refreshing the tool section, so they're getting rid of items that won't be stocked anymore.

Made it to to the local Menards this afternoon most of the Gearwrench stuff was picked over they still had a few stubby wrenches. There was a guy in front of me finishing most of the stuff off. There were no screwdriver sets either. However, I was able to get 2 of the 20pc 3/8 metric sets for 7.80 and everyone might want to take a look at the individual screwdriver... I was able to find a few that are listed at reg price but when scanned were on sale.

2377737 2pc Cush Grip Speed Screwdrivers 2.60 reg 12.99

Picked up a complete set of metric ratcheting stubbies (minus 17mm) PLUS the 10mm stubby I was missing to complete my metric non-ratcheting stubby set.

Plus I found two metric quad-box sets, and an SAE set of those wrench->square drive adapters.

I think I'll make a list of things open for trade, I know many of us have extras :)

While not related to this deal, I bought the 4 piece double box end set from Amazon and the seller sent me some random single wrench. Here is my chat with Amazon. I thought Amazon would at least have people that understand words.

You are now connected to Mary from Amazon.com
Me:ORDER # 102-7358129-0472258 was to be a 4 piece gear wrench set. They sent me one piece, not even a piece out of the set it was some other piece. I emailed them and they said they shipped me what was on the order. I sent them a copy of the invoice then they said, amazon made an error not us, ship it back if you don't want it we don't even sell that brand. Even though they just shipped me something of that brand. I responded all i want is the item I purchased and they are saying no. What can I do?
Mary:Hello, my name is Mary. I'll certainly try to help regarding your concern.
I'm sorry to know that they only send once piece of your order. I'll be glad to look into your concern and see what I can do help.
Are you referring to GearWrench 9240 4 Piece SAE Double Box Ratcheting Wrench Set?
Me:yes'
they send some other wrench that is not even a part of this set
I can forward our emails but I'm guessing you can see them
Mary:I see, so sorry to know about that. Yes I can check that for you.
I am seeing here that it is coming from the 3rd party seller and have you contact the seller about this?
Me:Did you read the first chat I sent you? It explains that I contacted them twice and what they told me
Mary:I'm sorry George. In this case I can go ahead and email the seller about this so that they will send a return label and response you within 1-2 business days. If they failed to contact you back we can actually file a claim against them.
Me:Again, did you read what I chatted in the first paragraph? I emailed them twice and they said I can return it but they will not ship me what I ordered. They claim to not even sell the brand wrench I ordered even though they shipped me a wrench of the same brand.
I want them to ship me what I ordered from them
Mary:I see George, I'm sorry to know about that. So you want then that I will file a claim against the seller?
Me:I told you three times they said I return it for a refund. Why would I need you to file a claim against them I want to know if Amazon can force a seller to ship what a customer ordered. I selected them since they had the cheapest price now they refuse to send me the item and say Amazon made a mistake listing that item for sale
Mary:Our returns policies are in place to keep our prices low so that we can offer our wide selection at the lowest possible prices. Although we’re unable to refund for the full amount, I would be happy to help you find the manufacturer’s contact information so you can let them know you are unsatisfied with the product and see how they might be able to help.
Me:What are you talking about now? I didn't say the product is defective. I said they shipped the the wrong item and refuse to ship me the correct item

Must be a regional thing, as the X-beam sets are full price and stores near me dont carry stubby sets or the 39 piece ratcheting screwdriver.

Went back and picked up all the loose Gearwrench. Everything's available at what it cost me + actual postage + packaging supplies (.50) + whatever you want to give me for my time. For trades, I'd be interested in anything not in the sets if they actually sold them (like a 1" stubby or something). I figure I'll return them in about a week if no one needs any of it.

8, 9 (x2), 11, 15, 19 (x2), 11/16 cross force non ratcheting
10, 16 (x2), 19, 11/16, 13/16 (x2), 7/8, 15/16 stubby non ratcheting
Gone:
17 stubby non ratcheting
16 mm stubby ratcheting

I've also got an extra DBE SAE 4 pc set that I'd trade for the DBE Metric set.

Did you actually scan the tools? The ones in Champaign were not marked down but scanned as clearance.

Yep, had the guy in tool department scan them all. I did find the 39 piece screwdriver at the Effingham store, everything else was all wiped out. X-beam kits were full price there too.

Got a few things today again.
10 piece stubby for $12, normally 59.99. SAE, metric was out. :(
Finger ratchet things, $3, normally $15.
17 piece ratchet set for $9.40, normally $48? Metric
11 piece ratchet sets for $7.00, normally $47. SAE and Metric, 1 of each.

They still had plenty of screwdrivers, but I've got plenty in my toolbox already. would've liked a speed screwdriver but they didn't have any. Misc individual wrenches still around for cheap. Some of these bigger 4 piece GearWrench ratcheting box ends I've seen on here were still ringing up at $59, so I figured I'll keep my eye on things and wait 'til they clearance them out too.

I'll be interested in those. What about the really big sizes greater that what's in the 4 piece sets? Those too.

Yeah, it was weird, they had 1 Allen and 2 GearWrench 4 pc double box end ratcheting that were fairly large sizes, but I also noticed a 3/4" socket set that was there last week for regular price.....now gone. Must've not been properly marked, and somebody got a steal on it.

Those 3/4 sets only went on sale for like 10% off. They're not on clearance.

Just for fun stop by Menards to see if any GearWrench was let and I stumble upon these. They were marked regular price, but scanned clearance.

Looking to buy or trade for the 6 PC Metric box end. I have double of most I was going to use but no 6 PC. Let me know what you need by PM or quote this.

Thanks Tad

I got a spare 6 piece Metric double box end racheting set for trade. Also a spare 17 mm stubby racheting for trade. I wasn't able to get the Masterforce SAE or Metric Crows foot sets and could use one of each. Could also use the bigger GW racheting screwdriver set as potential trades. Might also be able to use a quad box SAE or Metric set. Could also use a 16 mm stubby racheting as it turns out. PM me with what you have to trade if interested. thx- Paul

I talked to the fellow who stocks the tools at one of the Menard's around here. He says he was told that Menard's is going to be carrying a new "premium brand" in the space they cleared with this, but he didn't know which one. I expressed suspicion that it would end up being Performax or Tool Shop. He says he was flat-out told that it wouldn't be crappy stuff.

Take that with a grain of salt, though. During our conversation he also called Gearwrench a premium brand, which it is not.

My guesses:

1) SK. They already carry a lot of stuff made by Ideal.
2) Craftsman. Sears' demise is looking more and more imminent and they spun off Craftsman/Kenmore/Diehard as a separate company held by Sears. They should probably start getting Craftsman in more and more retailers to make it more valuable. Also, Menard's already carries the occasional odd Craftsman power tool.

SK would kinda make sense with Menard's appreciation for all things Made in USA. Plus....I would like it. :)

When I talked to an employee in the tool section, he said Oct 1 was the day they were re-arranging the layout of tools and starting the new plan-o-grams. My guess is they'll still keep MasterForce because that's an established, Made in USA, store brand that identifies Menard's. Probably keep Performax and ToolShop too because they each serve a purpose.

They seem to be keeping the regular Masterforce line so far. They only seemed to be shifting off the slower selling tools. I would like SK and it does make sense in a way. It will be interesting to see. I'll be keeping an eye out to see if they clearance out more things then.
