I got one of those when they were free after rebate. I used it to quickly snap through 1/4" steel dog cable so far. It took one second. Really very nice tool. It's worth $10 easily. China Coo. I got this in lieu of those fancy Knipex mini bolt cutters that are $40 or more and a 1/4 of the size of this! Why use a mini when you can use a giant bolt cutter instead with 5x the torque! - Paul

I use my minis all the time. Have two full-size ones (a Kobalt and the Menards FAR one) I rarely use. It's good to have both

Steel wire is big. The occasional small machine screw. It's quite capable, but it really shines when doing small repetitive stuff... if you have one or two large items you have to cut, you're better off going with something with huge handles.
I bought the Tool Shop mini bolt cutter too as it has a spring. I had a guy working for me replace my flail mower blades the other day, there are like 154 blades on 77 stations... each with a mangled cotter pin. Easiest way to do it was to cut the loop end of the cotter pin off and use a small punch to drive it out. The spring in the handle made it a lot faster as you could do it one-handed.

Very interesting. So, have to ask, how good is the Tool Shop mini cutter vs the Knipex? In terms of % of goodness, with the Knipex at 100%? - Paul

It's cheap COO china. Jaws are relatively well machined and it lines up well though. We've only cut very mild steel with it. I'm sure it won't hold up anywhere near as well as the Knipexes

Time to stock up on FOOD !
For those of you who have never tried them, those bagged soup mixes Menards sells that make like 8 servings at a time are really tasty. They go for $2.50 or $3 each on sale. I've not seen these anywhere else. You do have to check the label though as some of them have that nasty trans fat in them. We don't get those. The Vegetable, Tortilla Soup, Minestrone, Chicken Noodle are 100% good stuff in them. Restaurant quality soups!
We buy our cereal on sale at Menards! And like their Shasta diet soda too!
- PaulI hate the 11% rebate sales. I don't even go to Menard's while it's going on. It's just an excuse for them to not put out any good deals. Even with single large items like toolboxes or table saws, you'll save more money just waiting for them to go on sale. 11% is only good if you're gonna buy a bunch of lumber or something.
Now, if they'd let the 11% deal coincide with a Made in the US deal, that'd be awesome. Unfortunately, they always make sure everything else expires the day before the 11% starts.

I only buy large project stuff during the 11% sales (redid my kitchen during the last one) and I buy myself new tools with the rebates.
Looks like I'll be buying the rest of the drywall for my ceiling during this sale.

Noticed my store had the Irwin Groovelock 6" and 8" sizes on sale. The 6" was $7.99 before the 11% off rebate. For those who got the 8" and 10" package deals earlier this year (not sure who had those, Lowes or HD or Sears?), the 6" makes a nice addition to that set. These are poor man's Knipex Cobras, with the push button adjustment. I like them just fine. Do NOT replace proper Channelock's as those are much more robust, but for everyday non-robust needs, these Irwin Groovelocks are real handy, but are China Coo. Worth picking up the 6" if you don't have it. - Paul

Thanks for the tip on the soup Paul, I picked up some of the chicken noodle and we had it for dinner last night, pretty good stuff!

Yeah, we really like their Shorelaunch soups! Read the labels though. Transfat is really bad for humans and some Menards food still has that (cheap cookies too). If it says "hydrogenated" anything in the ingredients list, then it has transfat in it. The ones without that are top notch! Tortilla soup is excellent as well, just add some sour cream! For Thanksgiving, just use your extra turkey mixed in with their chicken soup mix! Yum! Freeze any extra into single servings and pull out later as needed from the freezer!
And if you ever drink sodas, try their Shasta! We like it a lot better than any other soda brands and it is lower cost as well. I drink one in my lunch bag every day. - Paul

It comes with tons of attachments. Think of the tool as almost free here after the attachments. If you can use one or just have a fixed speed one now, pick one of these up! Variable speed is much nicer. 2.5 amps so not bad on power.

Does anyone else have the Performax variable speed oscillating multitool kit for $29.99?
It would not get heavy use from me so this may fit my needs. The 54 piece attachments is nice and I see that most of the attachments are also on sale. It looks like it is not a quick change design as some of the higher quality tools.

I bought one last Black Friday. I think it might have been 19.99, but I might be mistaken.
I have used it a ton! I now wonder how I did without it for so long. The variable speed feature is great. The attachments aren't the highest quality, but they are a good starting point. Be prepared to spend more than you did on the tool on buying more attachments in the future.
All in all I think it's a great deal.

They were the same $29.99 at Black Friday also. Same price as now. Lowest I've seen these. They also had a somewhat interesting Dremel like Permormax rotaty tool with variable speed for the same price and lots of bits. Looks much better than cheaper versions. Might be good too but I haven't got this. Anyone use this rotary tool? - Paul

I have the Performax oscillating as well... Works great. I used it a ton until I got my Bosch cordless.

I went with the B&D rotary tool a while back for the same price as it is now. I still think it's a really good deal.

Yes, they almost all do. I interchange mine with my Bosch, with the adapter that came with it. Most of the attachments now seem to have holes/slots to be somewhat universal.

They have the b&d on clearance at my stores for 22 and change and they come with clamps, bag, and some bits. I bought one a few years ago and use it regularly it has lasted longer than the Drexel I began with

Don't forget a few free after rebate 3" or 2" paint brushes this week. Also have free after rebate panel carriers (the plastic things). Those are really handy for moving drywall around or similar. The free after rebate shirts are really nice! Basically Hanes Tshirts with lots of Menards advertising on them, but tastefully done actually. I suggested to my wife that I should get her some so we can match all weekend long every weekend around the house! Unfortunately, she was not keen to my well thought out fashion idea and simply rolled her eyes around her head. But I like them anyway for free. And don't forget some Hansen socket holder trays cheap if anyone wants any of those.
My store now has put up all the new Crescent tools. Now the closeout deals on just certain GearWrench or Masterforce wrenches or sockets make more sense as the Crescent lineup replaces just certain things but not everything in those other lines. - Paul
