Right, I think it is perfectly legal to do what they are doing. I wish they would change SKU or part number when they change the supplier or COO but I don't think there is any legal obligation to do so on their part. I agree it can be annoying though. Probably best to not buy online from Menards on items like this in question and instead get it in the store directly so you know what you get. - Paul

I bought a bunch of custom windows from them. When I got them home, I noticed the one on the bottom of the pile had cracked while bringing it home. I took it back and they said "no problem, we'll order another one!" This was a $600 window unit.
A guy in front of me was returning something he had bought 2 years ago. They said "no problem, but we can only give you store credit."
I saw a family returning a bunch of gardening tools (shovels, rakes, wheelbarrow, etc, with dirt on them) and were asked why they returning them. They said "we don't need them anymore". Their money was cheerfully refunded.

most of the time a manufacture that menards carries, the manf has to accept and credit menards for all returns, so menards is out nothing

I thought this was about Menard's deals, not a discussion of the company/politics. If you don't want to shop there, don't, but I am always on the lookout for a deal (because no one is offering me a sandwich!). This week - YMMV - Bosch 18v Jobside radio PB360S ("cube") I've looked at many times and never pulled the trigger because it was always $200+ - on sale this week for $149. Great reviews on Amazon. Time to go spend some rebate certs!

COO is Taiwan? I thought given the NWS pliers, that those may have been a high-end brand, but it appears not.
I may be wrong, but I don't think those are the NWS rebrands. The handle are close, but different. As far as I know, only Vise-Grip's are NWS copies.

Menards had a 2 for $1 sale going on 2 stroke synthetic oil so I got a bunch of those as I needed some. These are the little 3.4 oz ones good for a 40:1 mix in 1 gallon of gas. Handy that way. I don't know why but 2 stroke oil and even more so synthetic 2 stroke oil is usually pretty pricey. - Paul

good radio. i use the mp3 function. it has multiple inputs for various devices.
only things are the equalizer function is limited, and so is the volume.
oh, and it does charge bosch batteries.
i had the first generation of their radio, and it was a pure pos. this one is way better

they have, in the past, honored the sales price, and would reimburse difference, for a recently bought item at higher price. i have that box, wish they offered anything other than green at that time. great box, though.

Noticed this morning new flier out for new days sale. Various stuff, but FREE after rebate up to 4 Menards T shirts or hats. I got some of the T shirts last time. These are high quality T shirts made by Hanes. Make great work/project shirts really. I'll be getting 4 more of these for this sale. Gotta get the wife to wear them instead of my old T shirts instead! - Paul

Picked up one shirt today, not bad.
Seriously considering the 41" bottom instead of the HF 44". If I do pull the trigger I'm not sure what color to get. Not color coordinating or anything, so it really doesn't matter, but black would be the most universal.

I have a blue 46" and love it.....much better then the HF (waiting for hate mail)
In my opinion the masterpiece is the best tool box for the money
Better than the craftsman and DeWalt that I have.

By the way, I drive a '97 Ford as my daily local driver since that date. But '77, eh, that's a bit old! The newer Fords are all pretty nice, but my old one still works ok. - Paul

I live in Eau Claire where Menards headquarters is located along with 2 stores. Menards is a great store, you just have to be careful what you buy there, since John has his vendors build special equipment for his stores - a drill from Menards isn't the same as one from Lowes. But for most things it's a great place. Tool shop and Masterforce are his brands I believe, tool shop = junk, Master force = a little better than average.
Anyways I found a line in Menards that seems to be really nice. It's the Patriot lighting brand. The lights I've gotten have a solid feel and the components look to be built to last. The specific lights I've got are below and both can use up to a 300W bulb:

The pendants I painted the shades "regal red" and the wall mounts I replaced the chrome pole with a gooseneck conduit I bent for it. All with supplies and tools from Menards and for the price of 1 factory gooseneck light from Menards. I couldn't be happier with how they turned out since I installed LED bulbs and a timer on the outdoor lights. Check out the finished light below.

Where's the deal?
I was driving through a part of town I never drive through (or at least very seldom) and guess what I saw? A Menard's that's nearly completed. Yippy! Last time I went to one was when I was passing through Illinois and since we didn't have one here in this part of Ohio, I drove 10 miles out of the way to go to the Illinois one.

the "deal" is that you received good advice, whether you realized it or not:
I can back that up with real-world experience. When I was shopping for an electric impact wrench for tire changes, I bought the Chicago Electric unit from HF. Right after I bought it, Menards put their house-brand version of the same tool on-sale, so I bought one. Then I took both tools apart to compare the insides.
The Chicago Electric and the ToolShop impacts were identical inside. They looked like they were produced on the same production line -- same plastic cases, same type/count of armatures, same electronic specs, same gearboxes. The difference? The HF branded tool had a gearbox that had been lubricated with grease, while the Menards branded tool was bone dry.
I returned the Menards tool for a refund and kept the HF impact. You're probably better off buying a tool from a company that actually has a business model that involves selling tools, rather than from a company that has a business model where tools are a sideline, and more effort is spent on finding ways to get rid of their toxic waste -- by selling it to their customers as lawn mulch.

The ToolShop line is a bargain bin line that competes with HF. As you realized much of it is probably made in the same factory. The lack of quality control would be a hallmark of that impact whether it's sold at Menards or Harbor Freight, it's not that the Menards one didn't have grease because they sell more than tools.
Obviously, you bought the cheapest piece of **** you could find from Menards. They also carry Bosch. And the MasterForce line is pretty good, I bought the $399 8-piece set for a guy I had working for me, and some of the tools at least were IDENTICAL to my Bosch. I wish I would have picked up a set for myself, what a value.

Menards sells name brands, and they sell house brands. Obviously a Menards house brand will not be found at Lowes. A name brand model is the same whether it's at Lowes or Menards.

Depends on the model numbers. The John Deeres at Lowes use to be made by Murray (I think) years ago when we worked on them. I do not know if the cheapest John Deeres at a John Deere dealer are made by a third party or not. I also do not know if they sell the exact models at Lowes and the dealers.
We use to laugh at the cheap John Deeres, they were known as souped up Murrays.
