Used snap on.. You could probably find a 10-19mm Snap on set heavily used for $200 so a little over budget but worth it.

You sure about that

Bought a set of 8-19mm FDP+ for 132
Bought a set of 10-19 FD selective Ratcheting for 80 w/tray
Bought a set of 8-19 mm FD for 145,

the first two sets are in great condition, all matching data codes, lightly used. Just have to look around alittle.

Scour Craigslist or Ebay for Craftsman Professional, made in USA.

K stamp = made by SK.

Fantastic value.

There are nicer wrenches out there, but not by much. Flank drive by Snap On would be nice in the open end of a wrench, but that's about all I feel I'm missing out on, having a big pile of CMan Pro in metric and SAE.

I would avoid those like the plague the taiwan made williams are horrible look a for supercombo set

The Taiwan Williams are the same as blue point.

IMO, a List of best value wrench sets.

:JH Williams supercombo (USA)
:Craftsman Professional (USA)
:Armstrong (USA)
:JH Williams/Blue-point (Taiwan)
:Gearwrench (China)
:Bahco (USA) (same wrench as the Williams supercombo, except without modified open end)

I have a set of industrial finish Snap On (11-19mm) I could let go for $150 shipped if you're interested. Not polished but they're in excellent condition.

I can't believe nobody has suggested Wright... $100 brand new, and IMO there is NOTHING in the price range that competes, especially since they have a feature similar to Snap-on's Flank Drive+.

They have thick, comfortable beams, and the finish is almost like jewelry.

edit: Missed the link above. It the OP doesn't want the $160 set linked above, the Wright 950 is a very complete set for about $50 less.

They're only lacking in one area: Length

I don't always find that to be a positive. I like average length wrenches, any of the longer ones usually end up irritating me. Once the bolt is broken loose, they get in the way.

I think the Wrights strike a good balance.

I see some folks that are stuck on "longer is better" on ratchets, it's really funny watching someone trying to swing a long handle ratchet from the center of the handle instead of just using the proper average size ratchet instead.

I like long beam wrenches too, but they wouldn't be my primary set.

The one big advantage of the craftsman pro is the simple warranty if the OP does not have a tool truck account. Just bring it to any sears and they will replace it. And the loose stock on the pros are made in the USA. Also they are the best value, 85 dollars. Or if you have a coupon it is even cheaper.

Or if the OP is open for made in taiwan, gearwrench long polish. And sears is having a huge sale on them for 15pc set. down from 150 to 50 dollars.

I'm used to the standard length of Snap-on wrenches; anything shorter just seems too short. As Fedwrench says, "Your results may vary." :D

nope, I just went to sears today, crank my 19mm craftsman pro. They replaced it with a US craftsman pro. And I used it for something it was not meant for. That is why it broke. Not a defect. More like had no other options. So I accepted that I will damage it.

Also the couple of sets of GW wrenches I looked at were made in taiwan, so their are NOS gw from taiwan at the stores as well.

in 15 years, I broke 1 craftsman pro. I am really not to worry about it. But by the time I break another, they might have us made tools again in 15 years.

you all realized there are different grades of GW wrenches. That is one of their higher quality sets. They have lower quality loose ones just like the rp's. And the sets I looked at today were all made in taiwan not china.

exactly

I thought that too, but I never felt a wrench spread so easily as a chinese gearwrench basically you get what you pay for

Well so far 100% of everything Gearwrench i've ordered from Sears or Cripe has been Taiwan. I like my chances. Anything to get rid of these damn RPs. :lol_hitti

I bought a never used snap on wrench set 10-19mm for $80 off of craig's list. I have bought lots of Snap on stuff there and never had a problem.

That's a once in a lifetime "You ****" deal and can't be used as a reference IMO... and by the way... You ****! :lol_hitti

I bought a 7/16-1" set of FDP Snap-on wrenches off ebay back before Christmas with the roll pouch for $100 shipped. I'd rate the wrenches a 8-10 and the pouch a 5-10. Pouch is actually for a short set, not standard length.

Thanks guys! The Gearwrench seems like a steal for $50..the warranty would be at sears like craftsman right?

The only downside with that is that down the road, you might be getting Chinese stuff. Up to you how much that bothers you with an initial investment of only $50. Wouldn't bother me much, i've never had a reason to warranty a wrench yet.

Seems like paying $50 for a raised panel cman set i would just get a willaims set. So much better quality.
