Currently, I have CM us rp sets that have served me well over the years. I'd really like to have a SAE and a Metric set that is polished. Also, maybe something a little longer than the RP's. Just a weekend wrench, so I don't need top of the line-high dollar set. Any thoughts?

I have handled some Wrights at fleet a week or so ago. They were nice, but $300+ is more than I wanted to spend. Is the gearwrench Surface drive plus anything like the wrightgrip?

Wright is mid range in price. It's not bottom barrel and it's not tool truck.

$300 for metric and SAE? If you have RP why not buy one set at a time. They are as close as you're gonna get to snap on but way cheaper.

Tekton? Not half bad, are they made in Taiwan?
I really need a set of angle wrenches, what are your thoughts on these?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NY4SLK/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I have those. Damn fine wrenches, especially for the price. Use them nearly every day on hydraulic lines/fittings. They are made in China, and while I expected them to be mediocre at best but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality.

I plan to upgrade to the Snap On ones later but for right now, these work for me...for $47 you can't beat them with a stick.

No. I don't see any advantage in the gw open end. Great wrenches, only if you find the taiwan ones though. If you buy the China ones, a lot of them have more deformalities then a totaled yugo

Husky 22 piece holiday set at home depot. They are $13, they got some stubbies as well as full length wrenches, very nice fit, finish and chrome. I bought them a couple months back and I like them, mildly irritated that they are $13 now but I am still happy with them. I use a ratchet for pretty much anything I can use it on so they do not get used a ton. Plus husky has a good warranty and I have nothing but good things to say about warrantying stuff. Home depot has also got ratcheting ones 7 sae or metric for $13. I am thinking they could be the same as gear wrench because I noticed large sets of ratcheting box end wrenches with the exact same packaging in as gearwrench, craftsman and husky.

I need to run by and get a set of those to keep in the box for modifying/cutting up as necessary.

FWIW, I think I read on here that the sets in a plastic holder are taiwan the sets in a rollup may be china.

Sk wrenches are fantastic, made in the usa, and ideal has greatly modernized the manufacturing of them, probably some of the best quality wrenches money can buy now.

My first post here was similar. I ended up going with Carlyle from NAPA. I got the long non-slip wrenches. I compared a 1/2in wrench with a Snap-on flank drive plus and it was the same length. The grooves for the non-slip part were a little different, and i have never fully tested the limit of the wrench. It was $200 for a full set a wrenches, while l think the set of Chinese CMans I replaced with these where around $160 for the same size range.

I have not been around Wright wrenches, but I have seen it tested against a Snap-On wrench and both broke the bolt before slipping. I considered that NAPA is closer and easier to replace a wrench if I ever have to.The only complaint I have with my Carlyle wrenches is sometimes they are too long, but other times I love that they are longer than other wrenches I have had.

You really need to define a price range, Wright is pretty middle of the road if snap on is at one end of the range.

If I showed up to work Monday and someone stole my Craftsman RP's over the weekend, I would replace them with Carlyles in a heartbeat. I recently went on a simple service call and just took a few tools I needed. Once there, the farmer I went to see ask me to change out a part that he had already paid for and had in his truck. Told him I would have to go get my box so I could have my wrenches. He dropped his tailgate and opened his box to a new set of Carlyles. So I have had my hands on a set of them and I like them. Biggest sets of SAE and Metric will run you about 400 bucks.

You could get the wright satin finishe for a decent amount cheaper. Carlye has some nice wrenches that are likely a little closer to your price range.

It's a $13 set of cheap chinese wrenches. Screw the "nice chrome", if I have work to get done, that is what matters, and a cheap 50 cent wrench is great for hacking up.

What ever floats your boat, for what they are I think you will be pretty happy, they even come with a pretty nice case. Shiny chrome is a oddity in my garage, most of my stuff is either **** or old as **** (sometimes both).

Great wrenches indeed. But $$ IMO. I paid 86 or 96$ for a set of 7? 6?-19 6 point. On sale. Normal price is like $140. :shocking: but if I had the $$$ all my tools would be Carlyle. Chrome is second only to snap on, maybe.

Gearwrench non-ratcheting taiwan maybe. I don't ever recommend them but that's mid level to me.

Probably not worth it to buy a pro-level set (even if it's moderately priced) unless you're a wrench guy. Most of the cheap wrenches won't have a problem with the torque levels you'd (most people) actually use a wrench on.

OP what is your budget?

Given what you want, look for the NOS duralast sets from autozone. They are snap-on sized, polished chrom, and very decent ergonomics. You have to built it out a bit from open stock, but the base cost is very cheap. Note that these are not the chinese ones sold in complete sets at the store. Online only, with red and blue dots like the open stock NOS ones. You should be able to piece together a set at a decent cost if they still have them in your area.

If that doesn't work, and you want something comprehensive, I would also look at this metric set, which has 6-24 for $95. Its not exactly a snap-on style wrench like the Duralast, but it is a great example of "mid priced wrench set" in the level of quality and fit/finish that is a step up from the average Taiwan stuff, but not yet at the highest levels of truck tool/whatever (alot of which is now being made in taiwan anyway).

I just ordered a set of these to use when wrenching on motorcycles...

Stanley Proto J1200MHASD 10 Piece 6 Point Metric Combination Wrench Set
Link: http://amzn.com/B0002DOMSQ
Good on you ! If you move anywhere on the planet and have a problem(you wont) you can also warranty them.
Stanley-Proto will only be surpassed by Danaher-Apex. This isn't a bad thing.
The rest of these Yokels can't even maintain an inventory or website.
