Well this drama got this lurker to come out of the woodwork...

I bought one skeptically. Just asked him what's up with the shipping address and weight and this is his response:

Dear mxxxxxxx,

No not out of Vancouver.. the Vancouver Ship from is just a return address in the case of defect, disregard that information

cheers

Maybe he doesnt have a scale and just guessed the weight. If it weighs more than 70lbs, fedex will correct the weight and bill correctly. I have had a fedex employee tell me to under score the weight before. The package doesnt have to weigh the exact weight for fedex to accept it. It could be a 1 pound rock with a 70lb label.

Where was yours being shipped? The Vancouver addy could make sense if it was a west coast delivery, but then again nothing seems to make sense.

They probably also hit you with a fee for them correcting the weight. I know UPS does.

Nobody will be convinced until somebody posts pictures of their $600 211... then I, for one, will be very jealous.

12:00 am Picked up Richmond, BC
8:57 pm Arrived at FedEx location Dorval, QC

Dorval makes sense.

How does that jive with the seller's last statement? I am still confused, he made it sound like they were being shipped form Montreal area.

Stupid me, I didn't look up Dorval. I get it now. This will be so epic if these are legit.

Richmond is right next to Vancouver. Doubt the pickup was a physical pickup, especially since the time is listed as 12:00 am.

How about we just end the speculating now that there are real tracking numbers, and just see what happens.

I just checked my tracking info from Zoro, 86 lbs.

Yep, mine is getting delivered from Zoro tomorrow, same thing, 86lbs.

The fact that the weight on these says 70lbs doesn't mean much either way. When you create shipping labels you can input whatever weight. So that means a legit person could guess or a scammer could just put in a bogus weight...

Of course with that said, someone who sells this many welders should know the weight by now.

Is it dimensional weight due to the size? Do they still do that?

Usually dimensional weight on larger light packages. Light packages take up space on the truck so they charge for a higher weight

Last call gentlemen.

If you do not understand, go back and read post #351.

Just curious, what's the harm being done here in this discussion?

I don't see any name calling, people are staying civil and are just having fun.

For one thing, I'm learning things about how the world of shipping works.

There's no issue with the discussion of shipping for the item, I completely understand that. The issue I have is the nonsense drama back 5-6 pages and the ones I just deleted.

I messaged the seller about import duties and fees to the US. His response:

"we consolidate and bring all boxes accross the border for fedex collection, this way you pay no taxes or duties... "

Ok. He must be paying duty as he's importing for resale. FedEx has outlets near borders probably for stuff just like this.

So what ever happened to shipping form the US?

I am sooo slow tonight. At least I dragged out the original response!

I actually think UPS just started back Jan 1st or some other recent date this year.

Dimensional weight is due to size...if you shipped an empty 12"x12"x12" box you'd get charged 10 lbs as billable/dimensional weight...even if it was 100% Empty and really only weighed 4oz

http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/ship/packaging/dim_weight.html?WT.mc_id=VAN701060

I always cut my boxes down and fold down the sides to avoid being charged the extra. 12x12x12 is pretty out of the ordinary to ship though.

A "regular" Amazon box is what, 9x6x3? You'd have to have something under .97 lbs to make dimensional weight cost more than actual weight.

Since they made those changes, (thanks amazon) it is much better to have the smallest boxes as possible. I constantly make custom size boxes, except when using flat rate boxes.

Amazon's UPS/FedEx negotiated shipping rates are absolutely unreal.

As a seller using their warehouse (in those Prime 2-day eligible items shipped by Amazon, but still sold by a 3rd party), they often have to ship stuff back and forth to restock, etc.

If someone returns an item, you have the option for Amazon to dispose of it for you, or you can get it shipped to your house so you can inspect it, you just pay their cost on shipping.

Guess what most things cost?

50 cents.

Have to admit, regardless of the massive speculation, that I would have liked to have swiped one up before the sell out. There's no way I should be buying one due to my recent garage investment but I am envious of the deal nonetheless.

This thread has been massively entertaining. The naysayers and speculators are sad they paid more for their 211. :bounce:   too bad, so sad :D

You should get it from Zoro when they put up the next 30% discount. After rebate, it should net out to just over $700. And you get to keep your 5 year warranty.

I guess if they ship 3 million packages a day, 50 cents adds up damn quick.

Agreed, but there's still a fixed cost in running the routes that Amazon isn't covering at 50 cents a package. That's where you and I come in and get gouged. Seriously though, I've noticed shipping rates for us regular Joes have skyrocketed in the past 2-3 years.

I just went through the entire thread again. I owe ER70S-2 an apology, I was not trying to be mean, but it did come off like that. I am sorry. I am usually more light hearted, I am only trying to help out, there seem to be a lot of people that are (for a lack of a better term) wet behind the ears when it comes to internet scams. I think I got a little confrontational when people started making me look like I was trying to troll, I am only trying to help people out. My sarcasm/jokes may come across wrong on the web, no real cure for that, as I will not be changing anytime soon. It is clear that a few of you think I am not helpful, so I will bow out gracefully. Hope all turns out well.

Here is a screen shot of my tracking information. It shows that the welder will be here on Monday. I know my Fedex guy as long as he is not on vacation, I might just give him a shout today to see if he can verify the package when it gets onto his truck on Monday morning.
