The tracking number I have shows it was shipped from Vancouver, BC but the seller claimed he took the packages across the border to ship from within the US. Thats when I started losing hope that this was a great deal, but I held on to the end.

Maybe the guy did have 10 (stolen or liquidated leftovers) to start with and they sold so fast that he decided to scam the next 90+ people who wanted them. Still made off with over $100k.

We need to be more accepting of all transfeedback ebayers.

I have a garbage tracking number... Almost called paypal today but it's killing me to see what these guys get from fedex first.

An envelope with a few sheets of paper. I couldn't afford to send anything more, there were so many I had to send out.

Im slow, but Im not understanding how this scam works ultimately. So the seller sold a bunch of welders for $600-700 a piece, as many as 200 units? Then he sent envelopes in order to buy himself time to purchase high end items on eBay?

At the end of the day, since we're talking $120,000 in fraudulent, ill-gotten gains, can't Paypal & eBay alert the local police of whatever location the high end items he bought are being shipped to? With all the charge backs and paypal claims, it should be enough probable cause for the local PD to have a look see and a chat.

What am Im missing? It should be pretty simple to track this guy down once law enforcement steps into the game. Most times scammer get away with their scam because its so small potatoes, no one wants to devote time & resources in finding and fixing. But at 6 figure losses, that should change, right?

you said it all it's small potato..... Most police departments will not deal with internet fraud, this would be federal, especially for everyone on the US side

at least take a picture of what is being delivered with the driver? ask nicely, not the driver's fault that you are being scammed. Better start calling your credit card company and ask them the process. I bet that seller is some one here . in this forum and in the pirates forum.

I just got off the phone with PP. They told me to refuse the package. Once they see the package has been refused, they will issue a full refund in 3-4 days.

(I don't have an active PP account either...I paid through them using a CC)

My shipping hasn't updated in over 2 days as well. It is supposed to be delivered tomorrow. If that is the case...it should be at the terminal here in my city in VA...

So kids...did anybody learn anything?

I've learned never to buy off of EBay ever again.

Dude was a member for over a year, feedback score of 100% with 146+ entries at the time of order, 8-12 positive feedback showing from people who have bought the Miller 211 in subject line...

And then this happens.

Nope...not spending more than $40 at a time on there ever again

We learned that this was pretty fun, and that we won't lose any money. Wish some of us could have lost our money?

Actually I'll make it a little more serious and political. See what guarantees (explicit or implicit) can do? It can cause people to act against their best judgement. This includes FDIC, Fannie/Freddie loans, "too big to fail", guaranteed health coverage, etc. where people make irrational decisions with much larger consequences.

Called Ebay, was told I still need to wait for delivery to get the claim started. Scheduled to be here Wednesday but haven't seen any movement since Saturday. Should I talked to a PayPal rep instead?

The word gullible comes to mind.

Not necessarily. I bought a brand new MM180 AutoSet with a cart for $385 several years ago.

$600-700 for a bare MM211 doesn't seem too out of line for someone dumping them for cost. We see it all the time...

I just got off the phone with Paypal. Lady told me in no uncertain terms that I would be getting my money back by July 3rd at the latest. I was told I could refuse the package as well.

If you haven't done so yet I would call them now, even if you haven't received the package yet. Let them know that you have been in contact with others that have bought from him and that they are receiving sheets of paper and not welders.

edit: for got to post the phone number : 1-888-221-1161

I called eBay, the guy said that after 4 business days since I started the claim today I could call and escalate it and I would have my money back within 72 hours of that call. guess I get to wait till Friday to call them. I am going to call FedEx and send the shipment back to the seller as refusal, not as described.

Now I want a Miller 211, anyone know when Zoro is going to offer another sale?

Thanks Strouty, confirms that you were wishing us some ill will.

Are you ATC over on GJ?

Don't beat yourself up, it was totally legit until Gillaca started relisting over and over again. That was the first hint. On GJ, it was a shame that no one wanted to hear the truth, it could have saved everyone some headaches. I still am upset with the attitude of not caring that it was a scam because the money would be refunded regardless. It almost makes me wish people don't get all of the money back (or at least a select few). I know that sounds terrible, but I don't think a lot of them will learn anything by not losing anything.

I stand behind it 100%. A select few of you have a sense of entitlement that only comes from ignorance.

I am pretty sure Gillaca has a good deal on pitchforks.

One word of caution for those who got taken. Go through the PayPal/eBay channel and don't do a credit card chargeback. A chargeback is a good way to get eBay to lock/close your account, even if you were scammed.

I filed a dispute under "bad shipping/tracking information" and the seller immediately responded with the tracking number to PayPal. Very interesting, either the guy is trying to squeeze out extra bucks or PayPal/Ebay responded on the sellers behalf with the tracking information. Shame the tracking number is junk and doesn't give any information...
