A couple weeks ago, I installed a GFCI receptacle and Dusk-to-Dawn lamp on the south wall.

Once the wall is opened, the door I'm working on now will be installed to the left of the receptacle and lamp.
An 8' wide x 16' long concrete slab will be poured at the door's entrance.
An 8' x 16' awning will be built to cover this area.
The line of screws, just above the lamp is the 10' mark of the wall. This will be the lower part of the awning will be.

I applied the first coat of gray paint to the shop's south side door today. I'll apply the second coat tomorrow morning.
The door rails arrived after lunch and I'm expecting the hardware tomorrow. If so, I'll try to open the south wall and size the framing for the door installation.
I ordered the glass this afternoon and it should be ready for pick up tomorrow.

Tempered glass won't fade or warp. Plexi will.

It will all be sealed, glass and doors.

The glass shop called. I couldn't believe the glass was ready so soon. The last time I ordered tempered glass, it took 36 hours. Anyway, I picked up the two sections of glass and checked the fit. They're A-Okay. I won't install the glass until the door is in place and secured.
Waiting on the trolleys and hardware. The UPS truck showed up earlier, but they were not part of the delivery.

It's not a living space, so 100% sealing in not a concern.
The bottom of the door will be 1/4" from the floor. There are a few different ways to seal it. The sides are the easy part.


I'm not saying I'll go this route for the bottom (start at 4:30 on the video), but it's something to consider.

The twelve, 3/16" x 12" screws arrived yesterday afternoon.


Two were installed at each corner and one at the middle horizontal board.




Centered and marked.
Countersunk (roughly 1/2") and pre-drilled to start the screw.


Applied wax to screws for ease of installation.


Installed screws.


Impact driver utilized.
Countersunk holes will be filled after completion of door installation.


Later in the afternoon, the door track trolleys arrived. Today, I'll take measurements to figure out where the tracks will need to be installed.

I managed to get something done yesterday. The sun was shining, so I figured it would be a good time to frame up for the 8'x10' door. My plan for today, if I get time is to cut and remove the steel panels for the opening.

A header will need to be installed before hanging the door track.

Spent some time on the interior walls today.
I added a couple more sheets of old Tin.



Then, I extended the door track.

I'm going to install more Tin tomorrow. Hopefully, this will complete one wall.

I began installing the glass in the door. One side fit perfectly. The other is too tight, so I'll have the glass shop trim it a bit.

Yesterday:

I was able to have the glass cut to the correct size. It slipped in easily.

Installation of the trim around the door opening is needed, along with paint touch-up in a few areas on the door itself.


The door roller was installed and will be adjusted properly after the door trim and jambs are installed.


The door travel stop was also installed.


Beer:30 arrived an hour early.



BTW, I hope to soon begin building forms for the concrete area at this door. Maybe next week. Maybe not.

Today, I picked up my Fab Table, Hydraulic press and Drill press from storage at a friend's place.

The fab table was stored outside since we sold our previous house in June of 2020. I'm trying to decide whether to have it sand blasted and primed, then I can paint the legs and frame. Of course, I could always wire-brush, prime and paint myself. Decisions, decisions.

I unloaded the hydraulic press and the drill press. I decided to leave the fab table on the trailer and deliver it to the sand blaster.

This morning, I delivered the fab table to my friend with the sandblasting yard. I stopped off at another friend's place to visit him. He has a pile of scrap iron laying behind his shop. I was able to pick up a section of flat plate to make feet for the fab table legs.

The fab table will be blasted and primed. Not painted. I'll do that myself.

Last Spring, he charged me $120 to sand blast, prime and paint my truck's HD front winch bumper.



I'm expecting the fab table will cost be between $70-80. Hopefully............

Now that my wife is retired, as of last Friday, she's looking forward to being able to help me with the remainder of the build.

Even though the shop is not complete, I've added to the equipment for the wood-working side.
I picked up this Ridged WL1200 wood lathe today. It did not come with any carving knives. It doesn't look to have been used very much.
I went on-line and ordered a set of knives and four different centers for the motor side.


The guy who was selling it, got it in a packaged deal and didn't need it. The motor runs well.


I know nothing about wood lathes, so if anyone is willing to give a bit of advice, I'd be happy to listen.

I began to build a form to pour concrete (8'x16') at the south door of the shop. I was about halfway done when it started to rain.

I worked a bit more on the door approach yesterday.



I ran out of stakes to re-enforce the form boards. I'll pick up a few more when in town later. I need to order more fill soil for back-filling next to shop slab and also pick up the 4"x4" metal tubing for the awning uprights. I want to set the upright prior to pouring the concrete.
Still need to drill the shop slab to insert rebar ties for new concrete. I already have the rebar, wire-ties and rebar chairs. After this area is prepared for concrete, I'll begin building forms for the area between the house and shop. We'll pour the two areas on the same day. In lieu of reinforcement wire, I'll order fiber-mesh concrete when ready to pour.

Because of the weight of the work top, I had to unpack and assemble it next to the truck tailgate.




Going to pick up my fab table from the sand blaster today.

I have a 9 yd. load of fill-soil being delivered today. My neighbor is letting me use his tractor with front end loader to unload the fab table and to move and spread the fill soil.

Yes, I do. He's a good guy and very helpful. I help him out in any way I can.

My granddaughter's dog (long haired dash-hound) and I took a ride to pick up the fab table. I paid my friend, who owns the sand blast yard $80. He only wanted $60, but I told him he can't make a profit charging so little.

After arriving home with the fab table, I rode my golf cart to my neighbor's place and drove the tractor home. After moving and spreading the fill soil, I unloaded the fab table from my trailer. Wife and I placed two horse stall mats on the top of the table, so my wife could wash down the driveway. She hates seeing dirt on the driveway.


When I get time, I'll sand and paint the fab table, then move it into the shop.

Concrete form is almost ready. Still need to drill holes in the shop slab to insert rebar tie-ins.
Wife went to the hardware store for plastic sheathing (Visqueen).
A cold front with possible strong winds is expected mid-day tomorrow, so we'll cover this area first thing tomorrow morning.

Late yesterday, wife and I moved the new workbench into the shop to get a feel of where it needs to be.

This morning, I placed the 55" TV on it to watch a movie while waiting for relatives to show up for lunch.




We got the concrete form covered with sheathing before dark last evening. Rain showed up about 9:30AM this morning.
There is a 0% chance of rain for the next three days, so we may have a chance to form up the area between the shop and house. If the weather holds, we're looking at pouring concrete next Friday or Saturday.

Wife decided to help out and paint the interior side of the south door today.
