Milwaukee 9.0 battery lights

I fully understand the 9.0s tend to have problems, that is not the question

I have a "Red Lithium" 9.0 that does not illuminate the last light on the fuel gauge. As such I don't know if the diode is just failed or if it's actually not taking a full charge.

It used to be possible to "pull codes" from the batts by holding the button (or something) but no amount of holding the button or rapidly pressing the button will create a light show. Basically, I'm just looking for ANY way to see if that diode will illuminate under ANY circumstance.

Suggestions? This one is out of warranty....

Doesn't matter if it's out of warrantee. Milwaukee will replace it. They know these 9.0 batteries have a problem and as a service to their customers replace these. You will need to call 1-800-sawdust and talk to a customer service person. Give them the serial number and there is a 99% chance that they will send you the special box (this is the only battery they make that requires this special box that looks like it would hold plutonium). I've changed out three of these dogs no problem.

Were these the new Red Lithiums or the old "High Demands" with gray backgrounds?

I'm dealing with the former.

I've previously posted the comedy of the "special" shipping boxes:

The 9.0 were made in only one form to the best of my knowledge. They are all Red Lithiums (It's printed right underneath the power gauge lights and button) and they are labeled high demand.

Negative, once they freaked out and wanted to get all the "old" ones off the street they transitioned to the "new" ones on the right.

Left is 2nd week of '17. Right is 7th week of '18

However I will grant you they both carry the same part #

Also it may have had nothing to do with their panic but more about not wanting the 9.0 to appear to be in the same league with the 12.0s -- and later the 8.0 and 6.0

Ign I think you're wrong. I just had two of these replaced by MIlwaukee six months ago and what they sent me for replacements is the version on the left not the one on the right.

No, but apparently MIlwaukee does. They put them on some machine and if it fails, which it will, they send you a new battery regardless of date for the 9.0 battery.

Honest question. What is the problem with 9.0 batteries? I bought four of them when they first came out and have had no issues. I don't remember when exactly it was but had to have been at least five years ago, maybe longer.

If you want to test the LED disassemble the pack and set your multimeter to diode function. It should light up dimly when probed correctly on the LED diode.

Just called Milwaukee yesterday, have a 9.0 and 12.0 going back via the special box. Both are out of warranty, but they are taking them back anyway. Both **** at life, like 10 min on the weed Wacker. Not sure what they will do, but it's worth a shot.

I've already warrantied a 9.0 for dead LED, got an 8.0 in its place.

Nice. Have been waiting for them to give up on the 9.0s. Think I have at least 4 that have seen better days.

Just an update....box arrived from Milwaukee with a brand new 8.0 but nothing else. Never got the special box or anything, just a battery! Funny thing was box was not even labeled for lithium batteries.
I shipped the 12.0 back, waiting on that result.

Nice! I've been meaning to call them and see if they'll warranty this 9.0.

They really should stop with the stupid Russian Nesting Boxes -- it seems like a huge waste of resources and I doubt they're refurb'ing the old 9.0s they get back

Result for out of warranty (ended JAN 2021) is a brand new 12.0. Work order said it failed bench test. Freaking amazing service from Milwakee!

It's weird some people are getting 8.0's and others 12.0's, although really either one is a considerable upgrade from the problematic 9.0's....
