My swimming pool/fish pond has had the large turtle in it for years. We never knew if it was male or female. We do now. Baby is about the size of half a dollar. Cutting the last of the white oak and moving some belts that are now cataloged by size so I can use them on something else. Most of the lawn mowers they go on are obsolete.

Congrats on the new arrival. You must be very proud! haha. We don't have a fish pond much to our dismay (we're mulling over plans to make one) but we do have an old tortoise we been watching over for a few years now. He is still hibernating at the moment and is probably pretty confused as to when the weather will become consistent. We have had some wild temp swings here as have others. :headscrat

Bobby, this is very cool but it means your fish pond has had two turtles in it. It's possible your female was on Tinder or some other dating site and invited a total stranger to stop by for a quickie!

Bob. How could you. We're hurt and confused at the thought you believe our daughter would hide behind some "padding" and lure in some fish. Sure she has lived in a shell up until now but it's time to let the woman in her loose! This is the twenty first century. No need to muddy up the water. Wet and wild weekends are not only in Florida.

Tortoise's are cool. I can relate more now than when I was a rabbit. :)

Thanks Dwight. The log I have on the mill now is the last White Oak log. It is as large but too short to touch both rollers and even harder to handle.

Bobby, my moral compass is all messed up. I learned to accept the bare breasted women on the Sydney beaches so I should let your little girl have her fun with the gentlemen who come calling. What happens in the Boneyard stays in the boneyard!

No naked bodies near this body of water. The one post absent in this boneyard leaves no boasting in the posting. As for bare breasts, :lol_hitti :lol_hitti :lol_hitti

BB: all this talk of turtles and breasts I thought I was visiting the wrong thread. well you do like your critters don't you? glad to hear (and see) you have a new resident in the pond.

maybe since some of us might own the tool you are mentioning and maybe not know what it is, or we might see it at a sale and we can grab it can you post up a few pictures of it. not that we are going to any sales anytime soon, but I'm finding garage sales set up and ready when I stop by to pick up a vise or a tool I need and nothing better than shopping at a garage sale that is already priced and no other shoppers.

i'm wondering if you should maybe pour a cement pad under your log loading area so you can use a couple fairly cheap engine lifts to pick up each end of the logs that are not easily loaded with you tractor type fork lift. you certainly know how to do a little masonry work and maybe pour it 6 inches thick with some scrap steel or rebar you've got laying around?

BOB: so where are those AUSSIE AND FLORIDA girl pics at (not that you can post any) or they all in your mind and memory now? i can't say i'd ever get used to watching good looking gals walking around with out any tops on.

For those who recall the 1950's & 60's: Are you a Turtle?

drives no room for an engine lift. The tool is two sliding half circles and a measuring scale in inches. Belt wraps around and half circles or discs are slid in a track until the belt is tight.

Went down to the church to pay my respects to the Almighty. Copperhead in the pine straw at the base of the stairs. Took me ten minutes to carve out stick to dispatch it before it could bite some child or poor old man perhps who was too old to get out of its way. :headscrat

BB: i know you love your critters, but like me there are a few that don't belong around humans that need to be moved.

I bet the congregation was happy to know the SNAKE CHARMER had done his thing outside so they didn't have to.

WELL DONE!!

I am still not finished relocating belts and measuring them but here are about half as hung from over the bench where I built the kayak. All are new old stock.

Got about half a cord of wood split in two days but the belts need to be addressed so I can get to the repairs on the shed. But this flower was so beautiful (Ginny took the pic) I thought a picture of it would be nicer to look at.

BB: is that what we used to call an EASTER LILLY?

just curious cause you probably know better than I do, but would't those belts that the sunshine seems to be shining on be better in a darker place so they don't dry out and crack with your summer weather just around the corner?

cutting a cord of wood isn't any small chore so congrats for still being able to do it yourself.

cheers and have a great day!!

drives close but the Easter lilies we see do not have yellow inside. The sun does not shine on the belts just a glare on the camera lens. If the last row of belts gets any it would be late afternoon sun through the trees. I do have a splitter but it is bypassing pressure. I don't know if it is the pump, piston, or valve. It's been waiting five years for me to find out. The exhaust is on the valve side. I just got tired of breathing it. Besides, I can split faster by hand. I used to put seven cord a year through a kitchen stove to keep my family warm (10) years running. This weeks daily output was an average of 1/4 cord a day. Could have done a cord back in the day though; if I had the time. I worked two jobs until the girls were seven and eight. I was 29 by then and looked worse than I do now; except for the gray hair.

This was a big log for hickory. I started off with just a bit too much (1/8) space on my guide pegs and tried to cut this seasoned log at the same speed as the white oak. No dice. Ruined one board. I decided to switch to 2 x 4 from 2 x 8 as most handles will fit the profile and got better results for handles. These have been drying for a week just lying there.

Bobby, that last plank looks like a perfect candidate to be s ripped in two for a couple of nice live edge shelves. Of course that's if you know someone with collectibles that need a nice place to be displayed.

The work begins on a podium style stand for my One Armed Bandit. The main trunk being assembled will be blocked on the inside for more strength. All wood will be Red Oak seasoned over six plus years. Square is 10 1/2 X 9 but must be built out for stability. The machine is very heavy but narrow at the base. I may have to weight it.

Doing things like this brfore, I have often used a 20lb sandbag at the bottom. Portable and works well.

That should make a beautiful podium. Always a nice discovery when the grain shows up with finishing. It's there just holding back some for the reveal.

BB: If you have the space can you maybe bolt something heavier around the base without having it protrude out front so you and your bride and friends can play with the one armed bandit as long as you like without it tipping over? or maybe bolt the stand to a wall stud or two?

I have to ask is that clamp with the wheel on it something you made or was it made like that originally cause i'm not sure i've ever seen one like that and i started a CLAMP thread here on GJ.

keep on doing what you do and always nice to see you sawing a few logs into lumber for future projects.

drives the clamp is made that way. I want to get a couple more with or without the wheel (handle ok). They need to be the same mfg. but shorter 18 to 24 inches and a respectable price. Shipping on them is high as they weigh in high. That is not part of the value to most buyers. Added to that now is states that choose to circumvent the constitution in favor of handing out favors which now add a sales tax to the entire purchase.

Thought y'all might like to see what thrives in our cement pond. Pictures taken with an inexpensive digital camera.

I made full use of the bench and many of my hand tools yesterday. Drives I got a work out too making ten miter cuts using antique power. Hands are a little stiff today.

BB: I love how you take the time so let's call it "SMELL THE ROSES" in between all your projects. the pictures of your bullfrog (or do you call them toads) and turtle are definitely not common around here. we used to walk along a lake before Covid 19 where there are a few turtles hanging out in a few different spots and we'd usually find them and stop and check them out while the eagles are flying overhead some days.

great looking piece of wood there and looking forward to seeing what it will become. I also see a second clamp with the little old wheel and they look like a great team there.

in case you (and maybe other members) are wanting to improve grip strength and maybe help eliminate pain in arms and elbows I found these gyros years ago that really helped me. mydfxpro.com has some nice ones and if you get one with a battery operated starter it makes it easier to learn and use while you are learning how to use it. i'm not a part of this company and just recommending them cause they used to be the only USA made gyros which seemed to be made better than the less expensive import ones.

carry on and hope the weather is getting nicer which i'm thinking it is in your part of the world.

cheers

drives I use two ceramic balls which are rotated around each other with the hand palm down or vertical. You can start with the palm up until the hand warms up. The idea is to move them back and forth faster without dropping them. Also great for dexterity. Keeps the tendons limber too. No batteries needed. Check out this picture of a squirrel on a motorcycle; taken yesterday on my close line.

BB: I think I missed the story about you getting new pets that should make breakfasts very tasty (I mean eggs of course).

did you pick them up from a neighbor or hatch them yourself or do tell?

BTW I can barely walk across a beam much less a tight rope.

enjoy your Saturday!!
