My stand for the One Arm Bandit. Only one coat of varnish but a heavy one applied in the perfect temperature to keep it from running and warming up in time to blend all the brush strokes. I believe it will be the only coat. Have to wait though got some huge logs to get today. May not even fit on the mill.

Bobby, I am looking for belting material to be used as a tack strip to use in an old convertible top I am restoring. It was recommended to me to use old conveyor belt as this has the best holding strength. Would you have any ideas where I might find some thing like that? I was wondering if you might have an old belt from your saw that you might want to sell. Although I need it to be about 1/2" thick. by approx. 5/8ths wide. Total length (in sections is OK). Fan belts could work too but would need to be flat not v style. Just checking with someone who might know. Thanks!

Guy the stuff I have left is all 1/4 thick and 4 inches wide. Plenty of flat belt places around PM me for more information.

BB: so there was a time in your life when your bride would stand still while you carved or sculpted something to look like her?

To get your thread back to the PG version how about a few pictures of your one arm bandit (i'm assuming slot machine) cause i'm guessing it's got a lot of bling on it or did you post pictures of it that I missed?

I hope you survived putting those big logs on your mill or are you still working on getting them up there?

drives I am luck if I can get my girl to stand still for a photo. She is definitely not of the belief she should be the center of attention as far as appearance is concerned.

I will take a pic. of the stand in its current form. The bandit is on it but they were of simple beauty back in thirty six; cast iron and oak and this one is unrestored. I do plan to get decals for the spin wheels and a new window if I can.

Note the oak base plate is original to the machine (vintage not working built for a museum). The rest is the stand and matched to retain the patina.

Well done! That machine is great. It makes for a nice presentation. We have a cool little "penny smoke" machine that needs a treatment like this. You've provided inspiration to me to possibly pursue a project like this. Not sure if I thank you or cuss you! I have too many projects already! I'll try to dig up a photo of it.

Been working on a block foundation and door for my shed as time has caused the ground to creep up on the slab. The building fought back and Ginny thought a real close up picture of the champ with his nose punched (first time its ever been hit) was in order. Took a hammer and pry bar driven one by six from two feet away to claim the honors. Immediate ice. Picture taken before swelling. Nothing broken but pride. Could have dogged a counter punch if one had been thrown. Board suffered serious damage and will not recover. Trash talk evident in and around the barrel. Sorry there is no video of the event. :wtf:

You need to grab Ginny and come to Sp. Cal for some R&R while your pride is recovering from loosing the last fight.
Did you get a black eye as well as the scratch on the nose???

Don we sure do plan to move about the country once the travel bans are lifted.

No black eye (another thing I have never gotten but did have my eye below the brow split once. It required 9 stiches to close.) I got sucker punched in a pool hall and had enough sense, from the blood I was seeing on my shirt, to get it attended too right away. I did go back though and challenge the perpetrator to a game of pool (he did not recognize me as I had grown a mustache.) A pool cue makes a pretty good bo staff. So while he WAS looking, I worked him over pretty good. I was eighteen at the time. He probably is still trying to figure out why. It was worth the quarter.

Oh the good old days when you could make good friend with the guy you were just fighting with. My moto in my youth was I'd much rather fight than switch
And fight I did. Don't remember winning them all but enjoyed each one lol.

Last good one for me I was 41 my soon to be friend was 21 and near a foot taller. He broke two of my ribs I took him out with a round house kick. His response was you old bas_ _rd you kick like a mule. My reply was I had to do it you broke two of my ribs. His eye brows rose up in surprise. I extended my hand. The rest, as they say, is history. Don't know how the ankle I broke a few years ago would hold up to that now. I do know Ginny would not be happy to see me whooping it up at 70. Hands in friendship/swords into plowshares/remorse solicits respect!

This door was added along with replacing the entire lower half of the bug damage on the shed. Sorry the wife did not take pictures of what was BEHIND the plywood. I had to build and brace, not to mention brick around a sump and its plumbing, while going from block to brick to half block and around a corner. The slab that the sill sat on had over time ended up below grade; the sill as well. Sill is now approx. seven inches above grade. This will be my work area for the Delta Unisaw. I will be able to rip lumber too small for the mill and too large for my shop table saw. Should be able to run a 12' board or table top up to 41 inches wide.

These are some clamps I found on the auction. Simple, work great and match the look of the brick wood working ship. Trying to keep the plastic out.

Thanks Y'sguy. To late. The wife wants it green like the rest of the outbuildings so her flower garden inside the fence with the red door will have the outstanding red door. So, in a way, you both are on the same page.

A lot of tedious, back rubbing work in this heat. I spent the day yesterday moving parts bins etc just to get at the hole I have to work in. I hate to do things to be able to do things; especially when the work is repetition but necessary. I do not drink much but some whine now and then. :(

Just a quick peak... The stand and the future green door turned out nice! :)

And I don't envy the work you are doing currently... good luck!

BB: good to see you found a nice spot for your one arm bandit. I'm not a fan of redoing stuff either, but I guess even though we try our best to keep up with everything around the property it's hard to fight bugs, wet weather, and time and stuff just doesn't last forever.

looks like you are cutting all the rot out and then doing your best to make sure the dirt and bugs and weather don't damage it so you'll have to fix it again. you might not survive another fight with the door if you're 100 years old.

cheers and have a great weekend.

Work progresses slowly. I planned to side the last of the shed work this year before roofing it. I ended up removing the only post, next to the large door, I thought the bugs had missed. These pictures are before I found their entry point.

BB: thanks for posting up your cement block fix cause my daughter and son in law bought a home that has a garage that has wood to the cement at ground level that is not a good idea or plan. it's rotten and your cement block fix looks like something I can show them how to do so they can learn to fix stuff instead of just writing big checks.

hope you have a great weekend.

drives just be sure to explain to them that weight bearing partitions have to be supported BEFORE attempting to cut support posts that will be shortened to provide space for blocks.

BB: thanks for the reminder and I’m sure I’ll be helping them do their roof doesn’t fall.

I couldn’t tell exactly how you are connecting the 2 bys to the cement blocks. J bolts or something else?

Seattle drizzle seems to be never ending here and hope your sunny weather and dry days are nicer.

drives the sill is nailed with cement nails. No earthquake requirements here, at least for a shed. It stood for 25 years that way or more; even with the termite damage.:)

The Carriage Shed still needs paint touchup and a complete roof. I plan to add a dormer with windows but we will see. Currently dealing with a case of red bug. That's what I get for mowing under the Spanish Moss.
