Hello All
I'm a years long lurker here - enjoying every minute of learning from all the fantastic builds and details you've all shared over the years. My dream is almost upon me as I'm on the last steps of finalizing contractors and plans to build my dream garage. A modest 36x30 detached next to our southern cap cod style.
I've been through some mighty struggles with finding the right property in our ideal location, then saving to be able to build - only to be stymied by the people at the county planning office with every single location I wanted to build on. I've got 3.57 acres in Mecklenburg County in NC, right on the boarder with SC. Yes due to setbacks on wells, septics, storm water runoff rules - impermeable surface requirements etc - every location on my property was nixed. i had a beautiful wooded lot on one side I was wanting to build on but nope - my house is set back 210' from the road and due to topology issues building behind the front elevation setback was proving to be too costly. ultimately I ended up on the large 40x40 parking pad on the right side of the house. it's already relatively graded, large enough and few trees to contend with. cons are it's a long ways away from the power pole, it will limit access to the back of my house. currently the driveway comes from the road, alongside the parking pad, then proceeds back in a long curve behind the house, then up the "runway" and into the current two car garage under the house. That garage will be renovated into a 1100 sq ft basement/bedroom/full bath and storage. but I would like to retain access to the back yard. so the compromise will be to install a 8x8 or 10x10 corrugated drum door on the back wall of the garage so you can "pass through"
due to my limited budget, i'm making some sacrifices, I will not have the wall finished with drywall, the ceiling will be finished with OSB, my choice as I think it will add structural rigidity. 1 18x8 door and 1 9x8 door. high rise door tracks, scissor truss' over the single door bay to accommodate a lift to be installed.
So I'd like some advice or help with a couple items. I want to document the building of the garage for two reasons, to journal and share as everyone else has and because I travel for business and will be gone for a few days during the build and I want to see the progress from the road.... can anyone suggest the best way to set up a wifi cam to monitor this? got a recommend on something that works well?
I will include some pictures of the current location choice in a bit, I do not have them on my Mac right now.
Thanks for all the inspiration everyone - I'm stoked to be starting this project and giving my mopars a good new home
