You can make a pusher tool out of two bolts close to the hole diameter and a rod coupling of the same thread. Run both of the bolts onto the rod coupling and cut the head off of one bolt. Slide that headless shaft into the hole and use two wrenches to undo the top bolt from the coupling. This will put outward pressure on the pin. Spray the hole with a penetrating lube first. Be gentle and take your time. Good luck!

Sorry, I got excited about helping and didn’t finish reading. I’ve got a 4” Chicago Morgan vice that my late step dad gave me. It had a crack in the long part of the dynamic jaw. I veed it out and after preheating it on the grill tig welded the crack closed with some stainless rod. It was already broken, so I figured no more harm could be done. At least it’s usuable now. I can’t wait to see this one done.

Ok I ordered those stones. Using a stone I had I gave it a try. Interesting and effective. IMG_5895.jpg

The softer stones will remove the rust quickly. After you bust a few stones you will figure out the amount of angle and pressure needed. Look forward to hearing how it goes, do not forget the lamp oil to soak and dip your new stones in.

Research indicates the Morgans were all sold a bright sky blue similar to OSHA federal safety blue, or here in CA similar to a PG&E truck. It was quite evident as I stripped paint. I will restore in the correct blue. IMG_5607.jpgIMG_5650.jpgIMG_5643.jpg

Of course it was only 2 weeks ago I threw away a large container of lamp oil I was certain I’d never need again.

Here is a Morgan I fixed a while back. It was used with no jaws for a long time. Replaced the jaws, handle, and built a couple swivel clamps. I painted it with Rust-Oleum Satin Lagoon.

Jay, I added your vise to the spreadsheet without the max opening. When you get time can you measure the amount of square slide hanging out the back when the vise is closed.

Enjoyed your thread.

At top appears to be 9 1/4 to 9 3/8.

From base appears to be about 7 5/8.

Thank you Kevin for your recommendations!
