I bought 4 acres with a 40'x80' shop and an old house, so I moving into the new shop. Throwing away everything I don't think I'll have a use for. Not these vintage jacks though.

Think of yourself as a temporary caretaker. Then having a few vintage jacks makes perfect sense.

come on, that's poor judgement based on the GJ collective standards!

Read his post carefully. He said everything he THINKS he won't have a use for. We all keep the hordes of junk we have because we THINK one day we will need it.

Congrats on the new space.

Madness! Throwing things away? :shocking:

I've got 60's era metal coffee cans filled with old fasteners, springs, and other assorted nonsense still in my garage -- they're from my grandfather (a lifelong mechanic) who passed in 1990, it all came out of his garage when we sold their last house in 2009 after my grandmother passed.

Along side that is stuff from my father (a 40-year property manager) when he downsized to a condo several years ago (enough yard tools to start a landscaping company, and other extremely useful stuff like a 40lb 5' long steel bar used to lift manhole covers... because that's something I need on a regular basis right?).

One day my kid will throw open the doors to my garage/sheds and say "WTF am I supposed to do with all this?", and maybe he'll also be posting about all the **** from his forefathers but hopefully not throwing away those gently used springs removed from a 1973 Caprice carburetor 50 years earlier :lol_hitti

Moving shops is a great way to clean out and condense what you really need and don't need.

I come from a long line of hoarders and "what if someday" mentality. I got to the point where I couldn't physically take care of it all and just started tossing stuff. It hurt. But I have yet to come across a need for something I've tossed.

OP...that is not a shop...that there is a man castle.

Moving in always gives me two feelings...happiness and a bit of dread, as I know there is a lot of work ahead to get er’ just right...

Congrats...

Here's what I'm dealing with inside, we're on the second roll off. This is how the building was left, I was hoping to completely clean up before moving from the old shop but it wasn't practical.

Nice chain-fall they left you. I'd push everything of their leavings into one end and move your stuff into the other. Once the dumpster(s) is full you then integrate it all. Is this a personal or a business shop?

Personal shop, the city water main broke Wednesday so I'm renting a trailer hot water pressure washer for the weekend. Major down pour last night while off loading the trailer, a few leaks but not bad.

It ain't the prettiest shop/building right now but I'd say it has a ton of potential.

The photo camper is a restored 1955 camper, that is hired out for corporate events, parties, birthday's etc. The interior has a bench seat and a touch screen photograph computer program and printer.

I had to come check out your project again after you posted in my thread. Your "new" shop is much nicer than mine even though they have similar construction. I think I have more junk to deal with though :)
