A short update. Mom is doing somewhat better, thanks for all the kind thoughts and prayers!

For the next couple of weeks (as I get a couple of free moments) I am also trying to get the truck ready to take to the Lonestar Throw Down on Feb 20th. It is no where near finished, but it will be fun to put it out there and see what people think of it so far. Should be fun! I will take some pics at the show (again if we get there!).

I am trying hard to get this truck ready for the Lone Star Throw Down. Now when I say ready all I mean right now is to get it into primer and drivable. I will be trailering it there, so no maiden voyage as of yet.

I have so far finished primering: both dually fenders, passenger side rear fender, tailgate, the front panel of the bed, and the hood. I was doing the finishing body work on the drivers rear fender tonight. Should have that finished tomorrow, weather permitting.

So by this weekend I would like to have the bed back together that way I can start on the roof and fix all that old hail damage. It's not too bad, but it still needs to be done right...

I have a long list, but I am sure that most of it will get done. No matter what I want it up on the trailer ready to go to the show.

Stay tuned!

Bigpokie, I know, I know! Stay off them dirt bikes! But man it is tough when you here them call from the shop! "Come ride me..." "Let's go tear up some dirt!" "Let's go roost your buddies!!!" Tough to see them so lonely in the corner of the shop... However I am staying strong for now, but sometimes I give into my weaknesses! LOL!!!

Anything below 50* F indoors, is too cold for me to work comfortably in the shop. I do not see how you guys up north can handle negative temps...

That's why I'm insulating the barn and use a kero torpedo, so I can get the temps in the barn near 60*. Then hopefully I can build cool stuff like this sweet '75. :rocker: Thanks for keeping the posts coming. These builds give me the motivation to get out there and get my barn some what straight. Without this, I'd just sit in the house and watch episodes of Overhaulin' and Bitchin Rides.

Finally some progress! Now that the artic blast has left us I could get back into the shop and start to finish up the bed and start on the cab.

Today I finished up the drivers side rear fender and laid some primer on it. For now it is good enough, and when we get back from Lone Star Throw Down I can do some additional work and get the whole bed ready for paint.

I also have the bed front panel finished and in primer today as well. The tail gate has been done for a while, but I still wanted to snap a pic of it while I was in the shop tonight.

Got to keep at it so I can get this beast ready to go to Conroe!

BTW I found a pic I took of the tail gate when I first got it. I paid like $25 for it, and now look at it. I worked on this beast for several weeks to get it to where it is at today. I should have just bought a new replacement, but nah!

What are you spraying ? It looks LIKE A reeeeeal smooth texture

It is Case IH primer. It is actually made by Valspar for Case IH. I really like it. It sprays super nice! Still trying to figure out what the end color is going to be. So far I have it narrowed down to red or white. I will shoot some test panels with both and see what I think.

Great night to be in the shop. Started by taking the air ride valve apart on the #1 (drivers side front) assembly. Cleaned that dude until it was sparkling inside, made sure there was not a spec of anything on or in it, and then reassembled it. Fired up the truck and let the air system fill up, and that dude still was bleeding air past! I have cleaned that valve several times and it still bleeds air past and lets the front end rise up! Arrrggg!!!

Guys what am I doing wrong? It is letting air past the valve and allowing the front end to creep up on the front corner only, but the seals and the valve is spotless. What else should I be looking at? What have you guys experienced and how did you fix it? Please let me know...

We also got the drivers fender off the bench and bolted it up to the frame work for giggles and grins. Took the drivers side front fender off (now that I have a clean work table!) and started to strip it down so I can start the body work on it. Trying to get some work done while the weather is cooperating for the next 2 days, then we get cold again until early next week.

I want to get both front fenders in primer by mid next week, but that depends on the weather...

Let me know your thoughts on the air ride valve, need some help!

It's Fender Tuesday! Fender Tuesday! :p

Jammin' tunes in the shop tonight trying to get this rough beast in shape. Had to hammer and dolly the inner lip a ton. This fender was a cheap body shop China fender and the typical areas that are smooth on an OEM fender are anything but on these cheapo fenders. Oh well they need to get done so we can roll on the 20th for Lone Star!

Stay tuned!

not implying anything but it was the lift valve you cleaned, correct ? what brand are they? sometimes the rubbers just plain ware out. you can find rebuild/rubber kits for most.

Bigpokie,

Thanks for checking! I cleaned the whole thing, both the lift and the drop sides. Even switched the solenoids to a different bank to try and rule out that being the issue. Basically it is in either the rubber flapper valve or some issue with the valve itself.

What I did was earlier in the week just ordered a new valve and will replace this one with a brand new unit. I just don't have time to waste any more with Lone Star coming up. Hope to have this in and done fairly quickly.

So today the postman brought some additional hardware to my door! My replacement valve. I took several days going back and forth on which valve I wanted. Accuair or back to Airbaggit. Actually what I should say is I did not want to go to a 3/8" valve setup. So stupid me went and ordered a replacement valve body in hopes that it will work and I can move on for a while and concentrate on other things.

I hope this does not bite me!

Lone Star Throwdown was the bomb! OK first of all I was not able to take the dually. The week before the show I had to go on a business trip all week and when I got home I had a cold for the whole next week. So that blew my plans for taking it! Although it was a great show I kept wanting my truck there the whole time. Here are a couple of duallies that were my favorites. The Franken mega cab dually and the Wheeler Customs dually were so cool...

It just stinks to know that I had all the parts ready to go and I could not finish it in time for this event. Oh well as a friend said there are other shows...

i am against airbaggit and allll of their products! horrible cheap parts and bad customer service is their claim to fame. i know people that have gone trough it.

accuair > airlift. but if you want that type of system, those would be my two choices. i dont think airlift has the self or auto level option tho where accuair does.

i dont think that first dually will ever get finished. he seems to keep in a state of progress so he can always add the new body style parts he likes. lol

So we just got back from spring break this weekend. Had a great time with the family, but now it is time to concentrate on the truck for a couple of days!

Didn't get much done this evening, however I was able to work on the drivers side front fender some. So I got rid of the old vinyl stripe and kept metal working the small dents out. I wanted to lay a first coat of primer on it but the sun went down and that was that...

Stay tuned... :D

Long time no work on my dually! No excuses, I have been dirt bike riding and traveling for work a ton lately. So that takes up all my free time.

Tonight I actually got back into the shop. I did one of the projects that I have been dreading, the air ride valve... I got the replacement valve a couple of months ago and it has been sitting in it's box ever since. So I pulled it out and exchanged it for the old valve. Some small hassles but they were minor, and now we should be up and running. I kept the factory adjustable outlet swivels. They allow me to trim the air down and have better control over how fast I want a particular bag to raise. This should help me fine tune the system.

We are going to lay down some primer on the panels that are finished and ready. Every time lately I have gone out to spray we have either have had rain (weird for West Texas) or the winds have kicked up. Hopefully Saturday will be semi calm and we can get some work done. I have continued to do some of the body work when time permitted, so I wasn't totally abandoning my project.

Stay tuned! :D :D :D

Cool to see another C-35 owner. I've had my 75 dually crew can since I was eighteen. I was thinking of selling it and getting a new truck, but I could restore this from the ground up twice for what new heavy duty trucks go for. My wife convinced me to keep it.

Finally got some primer on the drivers front fender. Still have some additional bodywork to complete on it, but it is coming along. :D

Bolted it up to check fitment. The gaps are horrible. So it looks like once I get all the bodywork completed I will spend endless days working on the gaps. Ah well if it was easy... :p

DON'T SELL IT! Yes the new trucks are super quiet and very nice, but the cost is out of this world on them. Plus they just don't look as cool as the old square bodies (I think)... These trucks are so easy to work on, and do not have 17 computers watching your every move. I like simple and good looking trucks, and someday I will get mine completed!!

Your picture did not load properly in your second post, try to post it again I would like to see it.

I agree, don't sell it.

I have one of the newer trucks, an '08 crew Dually 4x4 LTZ. I bought it right at the time it was uncertain if the government was going to help GM out so they wanted to get rid of everything on the lot and especially the big trucks. I got $14,000 off the MSRP without hardly negotiating hard.

That said, I will never NEED a more capable truck and neither will you. You might WANT something different or smaller but strictly in terms of how much truck anyone needs, you're not going to need a more capable truck than yours.

Thanks 75 Dually!

I'm really enjoying watching your build. I guess I'm living vicariously through you. I'll never slam my '08 but I admit I've admired slammed square body duallys since, well...I first saw one in the mid 80's!

I saw it in process and it looked like a cobbled together piece of **** with stock steel wheels in four different colors then one cruise night it showed up with fully polished Alcoa's and sporting a new Chevy Marina blue paint job that looked a mile deep.

Yours is gonna look GREAT, hell it already does!

I'm glad to know that I am not the only one living though the builds of others! If it weren't for the other builders out there giving me inspiration it would be sometimes tough to get motivated...

I remember a 57 Chevy Pro Street that just blew me away at the Hot Rod Nationals one year. Just stayed in my small brain and influenced my Buick build. Below as it sits today.

Oh by the way never say never! I bet you see an 08 some day slammed to mother earth that will make you get out your torches and go mid evil on it! Just sayin'!:D

:3gears: i like the way you think! I've been toying with the idea of picking up another square, 73-80 this time to just clean up and lower a bit, but i said the same thing about my 84 a few years ago....

I'll keep watching on the c10 site, i lose track of this threa over here too easily! -(muttley over there)
