I have seen a few Bunkers from the old A-Bomb Days.
The vent/air supply for the Bunker is the reason why I am posting.

I have seen large hand cranked air pumps that are supposed to change out the air in the Bunker fairly quickly to keep the Carbon Monoxide down to a safe level in the Bunker.
Depending on how many people you have safely inside the Bunker in Tornado weather .

Have you looked into that subject at all?

I am assuming that if you had to sleep down there it might be a few hours of time in the Bunker. You seem like a person who can 'find good deals on equipment'.

I grew up in Missouri, where we had sometimes a few and sometimes a bunch of Tornados. We had a Root Cellar that was designed with a hand cranked air pump.

Came out of the Root Cellar one time and my Aunt's house was still there but the 60x40 oak barn was gone.

Would like to hear your thoughts on this.

Jab that is a good thought. What i have now is a 3 '' pvc pipe going out of the tank and up the end wall of the shop i have planned on putting a solar fan at the end of the pipe or inside the tank just to move air around. The door also has a 4 '' gap at the top covered with wire mesh.

A hand crank is something to look into.

So i am just about done with the siding on the man cave side of the shop.

I put the bubble wrap with the reflective behind the metal.

Re: My 50x72 + 20x60 shop, ( Rock shop)

Been moving kinda slow but have got work done.

I polished the hole man cave floor 20x 50 took a bit of time . But it turned out good for more info on that here is a link filled with pics. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=322081

I started on the interior walls for bathroom and walls between man cave and shop.

The shower is a block wall and will prob go on up 5 or 6 feet high with that wall. Has any one ever built a block shower ? How do I need to seal it off ? I will do a motor bed and prob do at least a tile floor . Maybe later do the walls.

We have showers here at the fire station that are block or tile and seams to work.

Also painted my bunker walls with Ames blue max water sealer . Got some water coming in when it rains hard .

Got the wall done with osb the hole in the middle above the bath room is for tank less water heater and storage.

Moving more rock in to get ready to pour the big part of the concrete !

Still working on The big 8 ' tall glass door in Th 3 Rd pic . It's a double swing door so mounting to the header is kinda a pain . I took them out of a office building.

just found this. amazing follow up on all your work, especialy the tornado shelter. you and your wife have a plan and are just trudging along to fulfill it. i think that it really admiral. best of luck on the rest and i hope you do not need to test out the shelter. have you built any benches, whatever in the shelter? i love the cement pour you did in there.

Nice building ! Nice place...

I am always impressed by strom shelter, we don't know such rooms in France, very fortunately maybe.

Why did you have a fan in it ? Mould or smell problems ?

Very cool project! The bunker will be nice piece of mind if the weather gets bad. My old house didn't have a basement or a shelter...hated it.

Keep up the good work.

Re: My 50x72 + 20x60 shop, ( Rock shop)

Been slowly polishing the big part of the shop it's a slow process.

But I want to move on to the next step the right side of the shop getting a 24x60 lean to . for Hight and dirt purposes I am going down 4 feet up next to the building pouring a concrete wall .

Started moving some of the dirt. Doing this job I'm going to need a few days of no rain lol.

We don’t have storm shelters here in the northeast. We just have basements. Different parts of the country build different.

Because basements are awesome when done right.

Hey, shop looks bad ***. In post #101, what is the concrete drive to the water for? Is that a lake or a pond? Is it a boat ramp?
