An index has been created for the Garage Gallery build threads and I submitted yours on behalf of the Garage Journal community. We are trying to capture as many inactive threads as possible so I hope you don't mind. It will serve as a placeholder until you log in and check it for accuracy. Should you find errors, you can easily submit your own entry and mine will be deleted.

Drop in and give us an update if you have a moment

I have lurked on your thread here for a very long time and figured if there was a thread missing from the index it would be yours.

As I read through this thread, I thought it was a crying shame to have that post in the middle of that span...but then I saw how the hoist was carried out. That's a total justification for the post! Awesome. Thanks for resurrecting this thread!

A restricted "Hall of Fame" forum where these kinds of threads can graduate to would be really cool (and time consuming for the readers!).

Well I thought I would give an update as long as this thread came up again. so here goes...

The exterior as it is today (mess and all).

I also finished the fabrication on my new English Wheel. It still needs to be blasted and painted but I wanted to use it some before I put the paint on.

And Ron Covell using it at the recent AllMetalShaping.com meet in Santa Cruz.

This is a manual roll bender that I purchased for a large floor grating job I am working on. It works great. It came with a crank handle but I rolled up the wheel because it works better for what I am doing with it right now.

And the newest tool to find it's way into my shop is this Baileigh Magnetic Brake. Based on the old Magna Bend design. Baileigh brought a trailer full of metal shaping tools to the same Santa Cruz meet an I bought it off of their trailer an brought it home.

The crane still works beautifully, work is flowing and the shop is getting a great deal of use (to the point that it's a mess right now and I can't wait to get a break to clean it up).

That's the news from my little shop in Skull County.

Thanx for all the kind words,

I can't really say that I have much of an update. I have been working away on many customer's projects, getting the work done and making a living. I have been working on a VW diesel Toyota Pickup swap (for myself), it's getting close to completion, you can see the build thread HERE. Mostly I have been reasonably busy with work and life. The shop is THE most wonderful workspace I have ever worked in and (other then make it a wee bigger) I wouldn't change a thing. I really do love going to work in it every morning.

The next time I really do a full clean-up (about once a month) I shoot a few interior pictures to give you all a sense of how it's become my slice of heaven.

Thanx to everyone along the way that gave me support and praise,
Jaysin

Stunning build, inspirational in so many ways. Your design skills around the use of natural light and ingenuity and foresight with elements such as the winch are to be admired. Definitely a Garage Journal favourite of mine...

Jaysin.....I totally forgot about this thread, but I'm glad it got bumped back up to the surface. Your skills with everything are just "over the top". I'd be proud to be able to do a tenth of what you have done.

If you gt a chance, don't forget this thread and post up some of the other projects you have been working on. Even though it may not be the barn, it's still projects getting done in the shop and I'm sure everyone would be interested in seeing what goes on behind the massive closed doors.

BTW......that is one badass looking English Wheel. I would guess that you could almost make a living just selling those on a fulltime basis. Very nice indeed!!!!!

Jaysin, I'm a bit of a Johnny Comelately to this thread, but WOW man. I love it that every custom part of your shop is not only functional but awesome to look at. I am seriously jealous of your CNC plasma cut bits and pieces.

Just diving through the build thread of your Toyota now, keep up the great work!

Guys,

Thanx for all the praise for my shop. I have been busy working away on customer work and not spending much time on my own stuff. I will do my best to get some pictures posted of some of the work that I am doing in the next little while and hopefully I will get some time to work on my personal stuff soon too.

Thanx again for the praise,
Jaysin

Yo Jaysin --

I some how made it to this page and spent a very enjoyable hour or so going through your build... All I can say is WOW -- you have designed a gorgeous space, equipped it beautifully and documented it with style.

Thank you very much for sharing all your work -- it's inspiring!

PS: If you have any recent pics, I bet they would be appreciated by many folks :)

I love all of it! Thanks for the inspiration! I've already created a file for my SolidWorks file, and to my CNC plasma, and wire guy what to be looking for!

Great shop build, and other projects.

I am planning on a similar style of build, as being in the tropics, I will put windows up high to let light in, and heat out. Mezzanine level will act similar to your high storage.

Thanks for sharing,

Ken

Alright already. I know I'm a slacker when it comes to updating things. And to tell the truth the shop has been quite a mess with lots of customer work and I haven't really wanted to show pictures of my mess. I cleaned up a little and snapped a few pictures, it's still a bit of a mess with projects but what working shop isn't.

I really can't remember what my last "update" was so I give you a couple of inside shots and a couple outside shots and if anyone has anything particular they'd like to know more about then I try to answer in a slightly more timely manor.

Outside.

Doors rusting up slowly, this in the leeward end of the shop so they don't see a lot of weather.

I added a steel rack for longer lengths of material under the long overhang.

As you can see from the inside shots I have far too many projects and I somehow keep making more for myself.

If you got questions or comments post away and I will do my best to answer when I can.

Thanx for looking,
Jaysin
