Where do you run those cars?

The 944 runs in NASA's German Touring series and PCA's SP2 class. The GT3 Cup car runs in the International GT series.

I race up and down the East coast, as far north as Watkins Glen and as far south as VIR.

Love it, much quieter than my old Craftsman compressor.

Yes, we are in the same run group with NASA, looking forward to getting back on the track this season!

Update:

I spent the day clearing out as much as I can prior to the painters coming in.

After three years in the shop, stuff just kept piling up. I moved anything that could be exposed to the weather outside the building and the rest went into a 16’ pod rental in the driveway. A few items have to stay in the shop but they’re on wheels and can be moved around as needed.

Here are some shots of the (mostly) empty garage before power washing and painting. I’ll post some after shots once they’re finished.

Update from today:

I am having a new entry ramp formed as the existing entryway is chipped and gutted. We are breaking up the existing damaged entryway and will be pouring a new cement ramp.

Everything is wrapped and covered for the power-washing and painting to start today.

Round 1 of power washing complete. We thought the walls were caked on dirt and grime, accounting for the heavy dark color and texture. After the first round of power washing, we realized that the walls are coated in a heavy water-resistant substance.

Duh...the building was designed as a reservoir...


We start painting tomorrow. Two coats (minimum) over the next couple of days. I'll update with pictures once the first coat is up. I am expecting a dramatic difference!

The coating should be a benefit (depending on what it specifically is/was) for adhesion and having the concrete not **** up paint. Really like your unique shop/garage!

First coat of paint revealed some problems. The original coating on the walls is creating a tanning effect on the paint, turning it slightly yellow. Not that big a deal for me but something that might have been avoided had we gone with an oil-based paint. The painter didn't know this beforehand.

We are under tight time constraints due to the concrete floor coating contractor's schedule and a shipment of Moduline cabinets coming in. The building's ventilation is not the best and there was still residual moisture that hadn't fully dried from the power washing. I have the workshop door opened up with my shop fans running to help dry out any remaining moisture.

The painters are coming back tomorrow for a second coat and hopefully I can delay the floor contractor for a day or two to allow the second coat to fully dry before the third and final coat.

One question: two of my Big *** ceiling lights appear to have shorted out. I was told that they were not affected by the power washing yet I have several LEDs out. Is this something that should correct itself as the light fixtures dry or am I looking at replacement? I really love the brightness of these Big *** fixtures but I don't think they make them anymore. So my question is twofold: 1) is this a problem that will likely correct itself with time as the fixture dries out or 2) if I have to replace these fixtures what are the best LED fixtures out there for a replacement?

Painting completed. Three coats for the most part, lower part of the walls have four coats.

I'm pleased with the way it came out. Very dramatic difference before and after!

Next phase: concrete coating specialists are coming in to grind the floor clean and then apply a polyaspartic coating.

I got an idea to inlay a couple of Porsche crests under the sealcoating from a Ferrari-owning neighbor who did the same with a couple of Ferrari crests.

My 944 started out life as an SP1 but I swapped out the rear torsion bar for a coilover set-up and went to Turbo brakes, which bumped me to the SP2 Prepared category.

Floor coating completed today. Porsche crests inlayed in each of the two bays. I think it came out great.

Next up on the list is hanging a series of framed racing posters around the perimeter of the workshop and awaiting delivery of the Moduline cabinetry that will run along one complete corner of the building.
